After a long standing love-hate relationship with my Korg Karma, I decide to give it one last go and see if I can integrate it into a modern DAW Hardware / Software type of studio to exploit it's strengths and bypass it's weaknesses. If it works, I keep it. If not, we'll be parting ways...

Fantastic, my Karma will now be back in action, such an amazing engine to pair with Ableton Live and my hardware synths! Thank you!!

Imagine having 16 intelligent arpeggios running at the same time, controlling as many synthesizers at the same time. You could end up playing or noodling just one preset for weeks and not get bored with it. ;-)

I have a Roland A800 (MIDI) and the Korg KARMA. I still can't decide which to keep... KARMA was my first synth, and I love it! Complicated as hell, but it's so fun to tweak. Unfortunately it's not the best MIDI controller, which makes it difficult to decide. I didn't think the sounds were dated, but now as I listen to the old video presentations of it - yes they are, but also quite nice. It's basically Triton with fancy GE.

It's nostalgia speaking. Sounds a thin and weak, trust your initial judgment ;)

A wonderfull experiment. A agree that the karma is the most interesting. Underrated synth ever made. I finally got my hand on one and am exploring it now. I want to tepeat your experint with the Arturia Keystep pro. The biggest problem with the karama is that is all sequences aere lost when you switch it off. Connecting it the Keystep Pro solves that problem,. As an added bonus you get all the sequence modifiyers on the Keystep Pro and the four CC encoders to control 16 stored CC s in bank. It must be an wonderfull combination. so far I like the Karma sounds but a thing I definitely want to try is the control my modular system with the karma enhanced sequences on the Keystep Pro.

@@saxmidiman I’d love to buy one, but am amazed at how expensive they are. I saw a number of them on amazon go for 600$. That’s twice what i p[aid for my karma!

interesting, I've been considering doing something similar myself. Its a shame that Korg didn't make the karma arp software available as a stand alone product.

You should be able to accomplish the same with Atari ST and MIDI sequencing software. You know, to cut the umbilical cord from the Apple or Microsoft ecosystem, and go fully organic. :)

I got my Atari ST in the shed, all with the Cubase and Notater, so for fun, I'll be doing something like that at some point in the future :)

I remember when the Karma came out I thought it was amazing but I was not into making my own music at the time but thought the GE in it was amazing. Your video is exactly what I wanted to use a karma for today. I've been thinking about buying one and found one that came up on craigslist for cheep here. How hard is it to program a GE? I have not been able to find any good videos on these or even reviews on this workstation due to it's age. I'm not ready yet to really spend hours reading the manual yet to really get a full understanding for what it can do.

Yep I did a ton of research last night and found the software you are speaking of. I've decided to go ahead and buy one. I got a person here locally selling it for 350 in excellent condition with a metal road case. You can't beat that price. I'll use the hardware for now and play with all the GE presets then down the road buy the software and make my own GE's I don't mind a challenge. I want to do exactly what your doing. Sometimes I just want to sit down and jam without a ton of effort. This looks like the perfect tool to allow me to do that. I also do all sorts of crazy midi routing using tools on the computer that do things similar to the karma but different. Karma really seems to be an organic beast of a midi manipulator.

I have logic x 10.4.8 how i set up my korg karma in audio mode to get access to all 8 sounds in a combi from korg karma , or can i set korg karma in 8 different midi channels spread out ,,,want to use korg karma more in my daw. so far i only get sound from korg karma in mono when i activate audio track and its set a bus ,so is annoying to just have mono always when i start a new song with use of korg karma , hope you can explain how i do my set up. Thanks:)

I have a Korg Karma collecting dust in a closet and use Ableton Live as my DAW on a PC. I'd love to use the Karma as you do in this video. Which interface would you recommend?

My Karma has gathered a lot of dust these past couple years and I stumbled upon your video probably at the best time because I was considering selling mine as well. But now I am thinking to keep it maybe. The thing is I use Logic Pro X And several Soft Synths which have kept me busy for a very long time. I just love to compose music mostly for personal satisfaction and not waste time on Telivision. Anyway ..... I just do not know if I can link my Karma to my Soft Synths or not. Is that possible? Thank You .... by the way your Set Up is so Aweome and I enjoyed watching your video very much. All the best ... Jim
