KORG Kronos + Behringer FCB1010 Setup Tutorial Part 1: Control Chord Pads

The Behringer FCB1010 as a Chord Pad Controller:
Settings On the Kronos:
-Go to Global Controllers Tab
Change MIDI Pad assignment for each Pad from C9-G#9 (Note Numbers 120-127)
-Dropdown Menu: Write Global Setting
Settings Behringer FCB1010:
-Select a switch
-Press Down for 3 Seconds to enter Edit Mode
-When the green light starts blinking, Press UP
-Deselect Program Change Transmit, Press Switch 1 until red light goes off
-Activate Switch 10 to send out Note Data, press until red light goes on.
-Press Switch 10 again to select for editing
-Press UP to enter Note Number
-Enter note number corresponding to the pad you want to trigger
-Press UP to Enter settings
-Press Down for 3 seconds to exit Edit Mode

Thank You for this great video. I am working with a Nautilus73 and just got a fcb1010 to control it. Is it possible to change between the arpeggiator scenes with the foot controller, like for example: scene1 is on controller1, scene2 on controller 2 and so on? The goal is to change sounds in a song through changing the scenes instead of building several combis for one song. I hope You have an answer to my question. No, the screen scene buttons are not set up to receive midi.

Well done.. very clear... might need to get one of these. I’m not that familiar with the unit. I take it each bank can be different modes of operation? Eg bank 5 sent midi notes for pads... bank 6 volume or Karma switches.... can these banks be changed with program changes from the Kronos?

Yes it can be done, control change messages from the FCB1010. Part 2 and 3 will cover this.

So far as I’ve seen, in the sequencer of the Kronos, the pad section is linked to the midi channel selected. I was hoping to play keys but trigger some additional sounds (but not keys sounds) with my feet. Did I miss a trick here? How could I do this? Thanks

You could link the midi channel of your other sounds using Karma so it will receive the note data. Assign that sound outside the key range of your main sound and set your chord pads to play the notes in that range. Use the pedals to trigger those notes.

I just bought fcb1010 and I can't do nothing yet :-( But my question is, can I use one fcb1010 to control 2 keyboards in same time, one expression pedal (as volume) + one pedal (as sustain) on Nord Stage 2 plus one expression pedal (as volume) + one pedal (as sustain) on Yamaha MODX ? Is it possible?

Can I trigger my Juno DS favourite sounds/combos 0 to 9 using this pedalboard? The CC of one of them is: - Controller Bank Select: 85 channel 16 value 85, Hex BF 00 56 - Control Bank Select [fine]:0 channel 16 value 0 HEX BF 20 00 - Program Change 2, Channel 16, Hex CF02

Excellent video. I’ve had an FCB1010 for quite some time and have really struggled to program it. Your video + instructions are very clear and concise - thank you, Francis. So, I was in a combi and followed the steps in the video and the pedal is playing a single note from a different timbre than the one the pads are on. What am I doing wrong?

It's possible that the timbre within the combi is transmitting to a different MIDI channel. It's also possible that the chord pads themselves are set up to receive in a different midi channel. Check your settings, it's usually just a mismatch of MIDI Channels.

Having a tough time finding any information on triggering samples. Can each pedal be set to trigger a different MP3 file on a laptop computer? If so, what are the signal chain components?

I have a Roland digital accordion, and would like to use the fab 1010 foot pedals to control the volume, is this possible, and how do I do it, I need to have the fab in system mode. Any help would be appreciated.

great video. i have a yamaha psr, and would like to do the same. i play guitar and wanted to use the auto rythms and change chords on the fly without using the left hand. trying to find a tutorial on that but this is very helpful..thank you.

Probably an obvious question, can you program sustain to #1, rotor to #2 & volume to second volume pedal? I've owned a FCB1010 for years but never really worked with it. Thanks

Sustain cc#64 won't work properly with a stock standard FCB1010 if you program it in to a switch as it will only latch and there isn't an option to make them momentary . You need one of those upgrade eprom chips. I suppose you can program it to your pedal. Strange to activate sustain that way though.
