This tutorial video will explain how to eliminate polyphony issue when adding timbres to a combination. The Kronos uses a very complex, sophisticated system for allocating polyphony requirements, and uses voice stealing to prevent unnaturally sounding voice cut offs. However, the Kronos offers several settings to help manage the use of the internal resources to prevent any loss of polyphony when creating large combinations with many timbres as demonstrated in this video.

This is an outstanding video! My wife was ready to chuck our Kronos off of a cliff due to polyphony issues. She delegated the task to me to figure it out. This video really cleared everything up. Kudos!

Great presentation. On playing fewer notes: One of my favorite techniques for improving a semi-finished sequence is to thin out the number of non-essential notes in passages. It allows the timbres room to demonstrate their unique characteristics. If you find yourself repeatedly layering more sounds to make a section stand out...try thinning the herd of other sounds that are competing for sound space. It seemed counter-intuitive to me at first, but proved to be a valuable technique.

Great concept. Can you go deeper into the such procedure ??

Going to try this before practice on saturday, its been VERY frustrating to say the least. My church has a kronos 2 workstation and this has been driving me up the wall as it does not happen in program mode, but i only use combi mode during service. I was frustrated even this past sunday to the point i was going to bring back the motif, but thanks a MILLION for this vid. 🤛

I like, that remedies have been made to resolve some of the loss of polyphony, but as I've said many times over the past few years, that it would just be nice for KORG to make a high end Kronos that has enough processor and ram resources to max everything out as one pleases. Being that I play to the max as much as I can, because the Kronos is my entire band and in real time, I want everything filled in as I deem it to be necessary for my music. It would be a much more expensive unit, but I would pay the difference without any second thought. Just build it, and we will come. ;)

Great video. Can it also be applied to the sequencer mode? Thanks.

Do these polyphony maintenance ideas apply to the kromeEX? I never touched a kronos, but it sure looks like the combi and mixer are very similar to the krome. Some of the points mentioned here i would never have figured out on my own.

Yes, although there are a few things that won't apply such as the option to select a different synth engine, setting max# of notes and setting timbre priority. All the other options exist in the Krome.

@@narfsounds thanx for the quick reply. this is great, because even tho the kronos is out of my league, i am "comfi with combi" heh, and this video makes total sense . The kromeEX is an upgrade from my old X-50 which also has 8 part combis, but i wanted the touchscreen mixer for performance and 16parts. One thing that is a relief for me is most of my performance combis have external parts. This krome is deep and i still have a ton to learn, but this kind of performance advice is golden since it applies specifically to me too and could save me some wtf? moments.

jj rusy This is one of 8 video tutorials for the Kronos that I made for the Korg Product Support team, check out the others as some of them would apply to the KromeEX as well.

I'm clearly doing something wrong, in around 10 years I am not aware of running out of notes.
