Why does everyone hate Fieldy and his bass playing so much? The bass is tuned low and dirty cause that's Korn's style. Someone please explain why so much hate? I thought this was awesome
Well, you see, people are foul disgusting creatures that hate when something is so far superior to them that they get awards such as bassist of the year.
Lol people saying he has a bad tone....the whole point of Korn was the tone and sounding so drastically different from standard metal or hard rock bands. Shit in 90% of metal or rock bands you can hardly make out the bass. Part of what made Korn cool was the easily identifiable bass and funky grooves. Hes not an elite "technical" bass player but damn hes perfect for the band.
I remember the first thing that stood out for me about Korn was the bass and how much of a bite it has. That's what started it for me. Really a unique sound.
When you cant stand out with your skill and songwriting abilities, and you have to sound like crap to be noticed lmao guess what, my dump made a unique sound today in the toilet
underrated? no not at all. many people think he is the greatest bassist ever... he has a cool style and kind of invented something new but not underrated by any means lol
Underrated?... uh, Fieldy is the bass version of Lars Ulrich. He's one of the laziest bassists ever, and possibly the worst professional bassist working today. he's doing a bunch of dumb shit on the fretboard, and he can't even lock in with Ray. He's fucking terrible, and could be replaced by a 12 year old. OH WAIT, that's exactly what happened.
Fieldy may not be the best 'traditional' bass player. But he's perfect for KoRn. And I don't care what anybody says. This solo was really cool. Especially the very first part.
@@therealdavidmac imo one of the best out there, but aye that's just my opinion this dude single handily got me to pick up my first electric bass and try it out, that alone is more than enough proof
Fieldy and Ray have way better chemistry that fieldy did with David. David was a dick to the band. Don’t get me wrong David did well in korn, but I feel that Ray is just a better guy and drummer all around
Love them or hate them they definitely have their own style and that's to be respected the most. Bands still rip them off and don't even come close because they have no identity of their own!
The thing that makes this solo good is the attitude / laid back chill gangsta attitude. Fieldy never cared about being technical. He just wanted to slap da fuck of dat bass and put some gangsta vibes in Korn. And it is what he does. Of course its bad if u clicked and wanted to hear some fucking Dream theater or dragonforce on bass. But to believe that will jump out from Fieldy is just stupid. its like judging a lion based on flying. Lions dont fly. Fieldy isnt a progressive power metal bassist.
Fieldy was never a technical player. He's all about laying down a solid groove and a whole lot of slapping. For those butthurt over his solo, get over it. XD He did exactly what he does best.
@@nickap_ca6814 see that's the thing, it's not random. Fieldy is good at keeping a precise rhythm, even if it's not the most complex stuff. That's all a bassist has to do at the end of the day and he at least puts a unique spin on it.
@@jeremyschep3589 I mean yea he can't really show off anything playing in Korn, such a bland, monotonous, uninspiring and generic band, so it's obvious the bassist has to fit in this mess. It irritates me though, people calling him a pro and stuff just because he sloppily slaps strings
@@nickap_ca6814 haha "generic"? Maybe today after all those awful imitators and a handful of bad albums, but not 25 years ago. I always give them credit for their first album, and the 3 that came after ain't too bad either. And his playing style is actually a part of the reason they weren't "generic", even if it got a little old after 4 albums in. And again, he's not sloppy. He has a pretty precise sense of rhythm. As a bassist (albeit of a completely different style) I don't turn my nose up at that. Listen, I love fingerstyle & Les Claypool & Jaco Pastorius as much as the next guy, but for bassists a precise sense of rhythm is all we really need and Fieldy has got it.
Citana take that drummer off the stage and all that will be left is nonsense, I get the KoRn feeling, they once were my n°1 (even had the hair like head) but for someone that's been playing for over 20 years this is kinda lousy.... try primus or muse for some cool drum and bass stuff
To everyone who says sliding up and down sucks: listen to the fucking slap at the very beginning and at the ending. If something, THAT's art. Not much metal bass players can slap like that.
Admitting I said Fieldy sucks, but, to be honest, I feel there is something cool about his style. Ray, on the other hand, he's definitely overqualified.
john is fine he has interesting voice, head can be really creative on guitar, i think fieldy is talented but he isn't showing it bcause he is soo much in his style unless you dont play instrument or you are new to this then he is best bassist in world lol(he is still badass though), munky is the weakest link definitly, not much style or talent with him i would say
I'm not even such a huge KoRN fan but this is really cool. That band never sold out and I have a lot of respect for Brian Welch as well...maybe I am a KoRN fan...huh...interesting
IMO the 2010 - 2011 years RWYA pre Path of Tottality were the best live shows KoRn ever did ! there amazing now and were always amazing but i think these just stand out
I know that too, they made their music not based on flashy tricks or complicated playing, and they typically don't use that in their normal songs but that always was and always will be part of their appeal.
I'm very sure that from 2:39 'till the end of this video is recorded on a cd. It's on the "Remember who you are" album which is released in 2010. This is a bonus track tho, and it's only on the Japanese version of the album I believe. It's the last song on the album and it's called: "Freak On A Leash (Live)" So I suppose it's recorded in 2009 or 2010 since the album is from 2010 :)
Awesome cymbal Rack!! Reminds me of my drumset, but much different rack and I have more drums. He has the Spiral Trash and special effects cymbals like me! Cool stuff.
