A circuit walk from Guthega to Mt Tate and Consett Stephen pass.
Spring 2023 #2 : Guthega - Bridge crossing of Guthega river - Ridge climb to Mt Tate - Tate west ridge to Consett Stephen pass - Ridge top walk to Guthega trig - Return to Guthega.
Distance : Probably 16 km.
Walking conditions : Tracks, footpads and snowshoe walking. Also walking on foot where the snow cover is sparse.
Notes : The classic circuit from Guthega including Mt Tate, Consett Stephen pass, and returning via the Guthega trig.
The route taken to the initial ridge crest is not the most direct way to Mt Tate. This is more the direction that the ridges lead, generally leaning to the left when ascending. The small plateau with the red pole is worth noting as a landmark. Normally, about half way up, a large gully on the right of the route is gained and a direct ascent to the ridge crest is then undertaken. This route is shown in the Mann bluff video, #5 of this series.
As for the route in summer, I've heard there is a footpad through the heath, but I've been led astray every time. I will have a go at figuring it out properly soon.
Walking across the tops is very exposed, and comparable to the Rolling ground in bleakness. This day was very windy, which shows up in the audio, mostly in the lower frequencies.
Generally developing the soundtrack some more, with two new loop/beat combinations using the existing atmospherics and a Roland pad kit.
Also, the overall volume level has been boosted, as it was all seeming a bit quiet on RU-vid. : )
