A return walk from the Alpine way to The Chimneys.
Spring 2023 #7 : Cascades car park - Boggy plain - The Chimneys - return.
Distance : Probably 20 km return.
Walking conditions : The Cascade trail, sub alpine meadow walking, and Brumby trails.
Notes : A walk out to the Chimneys is a fair undertaking in distance alone, as we travel to distant areas that are off the beaten track. The clumpy snowgrass is tough on the feet and ankles, making for slow going. I've always though this to be a walk that is best done after some preparation for endurance.
Brumbies live and graze all through this area, and it's pretty much guaranteed that we will see them. Watch out for the Stallions, they can be grumpy and territorial. They are easy to pick, and will let us know if they are unhappy. Giving them a wide berth is the only way I know of dealing with them, and they usually respond well to that.
My apologies for a mistake in this video : the indicated 'Paddy Rush Bogong' (2:13) is most likely the 'Brindle Bull hill'. I'm not completely familiar with this area, and read the map wrong. Darn it! ( :
