If Diz could do this even once a year, he'd be the uncontested GOAT.

Mad respect to dizaster for that closing statement. I almost felt bad for Canibus. I was a huge fan of him back in the day. You could tell he was frustrated but I'm sure those closing statements from Diz after the Battle made Canibus feel better about losing.

I'm a huge Canibus fan so this battle was hard for me to watch. Definitely a passing of the torch here. It was great in the end when Dizaster gave Bis mad props and said anyone who listened to Bis back in the day said damn I need to write like this. Mad props to both cats for making this a highly memorable battle.

I feel like watching unedited battle footage adds a better sense of atmosphere and authenticity to it. This was enjoyable despite how many times I've seen it before.

The closing statement by Dizaster was spot on. I can guarantee you that your favorite mumble/emo rapper wouldn’t even freestyle on the spot, let alone step into the octagon of rap. These battlers are the top .1% for talent - at least Cannibus had the balls to step in the ring.

I'm sorry this shit made me love Canibus more than I did before, and I'm not really a "true fan". His insults are so odd, nasty and well-worded, and of course the voice. He looks like the minimalist here. No rapid fire run-on crescendo tirades, no screaming and yelling, just seething anger, really dark humor, the same way I love Prodigy though he has no complexity but relies on very specific word choices. His punchlines are more serious, less cartoonish, funnier imo. and all in that voice that is one of the most distinctive and intense in hip-hop history. Everything sounds harder than Diz who is yelling. He came through with the 3rd verse. Yes Bis "lost" because of the ending, but in other circles if you're yelling your lyrics it's a cheap tactic. You could argue that Bis is leaning on his voice too much though, a couple of duds in the 3rd verse. Diz's is so academic though, "researched", like a damn tabloid article on Canibus. I can't agree with some of Diz's points, acting like Canibus at some point wanted to be mainstream. He was on 4,3,2,1 with legends, but had the most uncompromising style of anyone at the time. Never changed his style to suit anyone else's track. Did 100 bar freestyles, etc. - so all the outrage just feels false to me. Don't tell me he did 10+ albums and an 1000-bar rap in the same style he's always had as a ruse to cover up his "mainstream failure". Some modern patterns are more complex but he has never been about "flow" anyway, it seems like he's more about "information", but seeing hip-hop as evolution isn't that simple, or that Bis's style is "old" or subspecies of a more evolved rapper? You have to say the same thing about Nas then, that what, Kendrick is more "evolved"? Or that he's a "bad shoulder to lean on", a jealous asshole, not helpful to his colleagues in the industry? I always assumed that when I heard him rhyme, that he was an extreme-minded introvert, not sure that's an angle to use. That he didn't do anything for hip-hop? We all know that isn't true. I don't know man. He still is inspiring as he's the archetype of that style. Diz acting like he's resurrecting a legend just because he's battling him, smiling and shit, I can't call it, part of the show I guess. Props to Diz for the speech at the end. Diz had lines, the MJ one, the 2 L's was clever, "dog to sleep", and the ape line was Canibus-ish as was the Kenyan Dwarf line. Obviously the notepad is so out-of-pocket in a battle context that it is an automatic L, but it seems to be part of a breakdown he's having right in the middle of the battle, don't know why he sabotaged himself that way, or admitted defeat. Just lost heart....but we all know he's a complex figure with an odd history. You would've had people on either side of the verdict had he just spit it off top - the crowd would've been hanging on his words like the first 2 verses. Third verse off the pad had some lines but people were talking over it, worst of his three verses. This adds to Canibus's twisted legacy in my opinion. He's this shadowy corner of hip-hop, an alien mascochist, flagellating himself. Hip-hop has an amazing range of characters. Props to both, I don't want a crazy war here, just challenging some groupthink here with another perspective.

I still listen to Bis' music daily and always buy his new albums, this battle takes nothing away from how amazing his music is. Seems he will never escape this, but in my eyes he will always be a legend.
