The first impression I got immediately on hearing the start of the song was "Oh yeah, this is ITZY." I love how they've found their own recognizable sound, it's very impressive. I love how jumbled their sounds are it's so refreshing to hear in KPOP when most sounds can become very similar, even repetitive.
@AZODi
@AZODi 4 года назад
Thanks nn! Yeah I agree, they are really pioneering the girl crush sound! I think they are leading the way and at a guess, others will follow!! I think for me, if it’s strictly music related, its the bpm, bass choices and beat. Also those extra verse 2 rap sections!! Usually in Kpop it’s more encouraged to mix your genres up a bit more per song / album, and ITZY haven’t done that! this is another reason why I feel ITZY have the western sound! Thanks for your comment!! What do you think??
@nah9599
@nah9599 4 года назад
@@AZODi I feel as if, since ITZY is still fairly new, they're establishing their sound. They're likely doing this to gain a stable fanbase and then move forward in their later years, just as how Twice has done! Twice only recently changed up their style to a more mature sound, and the fanbase has pretty much received it very well. With ITZY I'm assuming this will be the same route-ish they'll take, even though WANNABE is definitely a more mature title track for them. Considering the members' upkeep with the English language (they even have their own english names!) I think the producers are aiming to score in both Western and Eastern audiences with their sound, and I think it works well for ITZY.

The song felt kinda weird the first time I listened to it, but it's grown on me very much, like all ITZY title tracks. About your point on ITZY being a mix of Western and Korean at the same time, I really think ITZY is JYP's attempt to get into the Western market. They tried before (with Miss A and other groups) but I feel like before, they wanted to get Kpop into the west. ITZY almost feels like it's geared towards the west more than Korea. They've done a US tour and many many interviews in the US with Lia being fluent in English and the other members being at quite a good level as well.
@AZODi
@AZODi 4 года назад
for sure sumo, those are some interesting points made. i didnt know that about their previous acts! its just finding that balance i guess, so everyone from both markets enjoy the music right? oh for me this was a banger right away haha something about that bass, beat and vox that really get me pumped!! i appreciate your comment!!

being a kpop fan for years and interested in music producing, i really loved this song the first time i heard it. this is in my opinion, the best title track of itzy since it makes you enjoy it easily and is not weird/strange in terms of song composition unlike dalla dalla and icy. galactika really made this song stand out to what we've heard this 2020.

i believe wonder girls is the most sucessful try to enter into western market from jyp. precisely "wonder party" and the single "like money". im pretty happy that jyp is trying to fix the mistakes he made with wonder girls. itzy have such a unique identity that people cant classify them into western or eastern. they suit both, and thats amazing. they are really different.
@bearface282
@bearface282 4 года назад
Yeah.. JYPE's target market for itzy is both Korea and The west market.. JYP learned from his mistakes in the past.. that he didn't aim high that much for twice.. He have been very obvious about it from the start that for twice his aiming for Korea, Japan and probably even Chinese market for twice (but some mishaps happened that he have to cancel out aiming for the Chinese market but it's okay coz her charm, skills and beauty got recognize and appreciated by the world) more of Asia.. and for itzy he have always been transparent and obvious that he is aiming for the west.. the way their music have been constructed.. and the m/vs.. +the fact that the girls were taught English even from the start.. and the fact that they also got training from Esteem pre-debut.. there's still a lot more projects waiting for itzy.. and jyp prepared them well this time..

I really enjoyed your take on this. I’ve found Dalla Dalla and Icy enjoyable but those songs never grabbed me. This song is similar in that you know it’s an Itzy song (they really have their “Itzy” sound now) but I’m loving Wannabe so much more than their earlier stuff. I loved the muffled club sounds leading up to the dance break, and I think this song in particular almost felt nostalgic to me (like a late 90s girl group pop song in the best possible way). I can also imagine this song stripped down to just an acoustic version and being really beautiful and emotional.

Love your detailed song breakdown as always. I love this song! Really in love with the chorus, love it when they have 2 parts to it. The only thing I didn't really like to much was the bridge, felt it brought down the energy down too much and was so empty. I feel like its has lots of similarities to Dalla Dalla. Unlike Wannabe, I felt the chorus for Dalla Dalla was a bit short, I think it would have been better if the chorus was repeated 3 times instead of 2. Never the less, love watching your videos. Thanks for your thoughts. Was digging that compressed guitar riff haha. I agree with others, the song is a bop. Especially love the house vibe, rap verse, and dance breakdown. But the chorus/prechorus are a bit underwhelming. Lol maybe I just want hours of deep house with yeji on top xD. Cheers One other thing the vocal mixing seems a bit weird at times. Like their voices are on top of the song not in it. Ryujins first line is a good example
@AZODi
@AZODi 4 года назад
Thanks Chris!! I appreciate it! Yeah for sure, it’s a great song. Maybe she could have a deep house side project? Haha I can understand why you think that about the vox, I think generally in Kpop you have to made the vocals a little louder than other genres, that prob goes for all pop tbh! I always level the vox what I think sounds good in my own Kpop mixes, then crank them that 1 - 2db higher! Just seems to be preferred! Thanks for your comment!!

Hey man, awesome videos (not gonna lie, I only found them last night, but was immediately hooked and watched 4 or 5 before passing out). I really like how you break down what all is going on behind the vocals and aesthetics, and I was wondering what kind of advice you might give someone who is looking at beginning sound producing/beat mixing. I've dabbled in it a little bit, but never really was able to put anything together -- admittedly I knew nothing about music except "make it catchy, have a chorus, and have two versus" -- now I understand there is more to it. What I'm really trying to ask is what -- if any -- software(s)/program(s) is a good starter for getting into, or attempting to get into, beat mixing and sound producing.

thanks avery! there is no 100% solid route into it, i can tell you the way i started was by messing about on an old version of cubase 11 years ago and just having fun. trying out ideas in my head and getting them onto the computer. you can get a free demo of ableton which could be a starting point. tbh there are loads of tutorials on youtube on how to start music production, you can also join my discord server with other producers and songwriters! hope that helps!

I'm curious if you already listened to the rest of the album, and if not will you be reacting to it or if it's a Patereon excluv? I wanted to know more of your thoughts on the b-sides especially with Oliver Heldens working on Ting Ting Ting. I was extremely surprised and excited to see one of my favorite djs collabing with a Kpop group, it's such an earworm! And the fact that this album has a huge Western/Coachella inspiration (I Don't Wanna Dance + That's A No No having crazy festival vibes attached to it IMO). JYP did have a vision of creating this ggroup for an American audience. I love the song in total, really don't have any issues with it besides the Streaming version not having the middle 8 ): Cheers!!

Adozi, have you listened to Dreamcatcher's Japanese metal/hard rock comeback "Endless Night"? It's much much more JRock than anything they have done before!! I love this Itzy comeback. Dala Dala and Icy were not my musical style. This comeback is more classic JYP sound. Melodic, dancey, flowing music vs the almost SM/YG inspired dala dala and icy.

Yay! I was waiting for this reaction. I think I've listened to this song 25 times since yesterday, and I absolutely love it (for the most part). I'm not the biggest fan of the chorus, but I love the verses and the bridges. Maybe the chorus is just a bit too generic and poppy for me, whereas I feel that the beginning of the first and second verse had a bit of that club vibe to it that I love. "Dalla Dalla" was a bit like that as well. In a way the philosophy behind "Wannabe" reminds me of a lot of EXID's and to some degree Black Pink's songs, which seem to be produced with the idea that you have to fit the different member's styles into one semi-coherent track, which ultimately ends up being too cut and paste and jagged. Especially EXID's "Up and Down" and Black Pink's "Whistle" seem wildly disjointed to me, even when you think about the fact that a lot of modern kpop loves to squeeze 3 to 4 genres into a single song. "Wannabe" has a bit of that as well, which I'm not a huge fan off. I guess the distorted guitars and clap along beat is just a bit too tacky for me. All in all it's a good track that fits the Itzy catalogue well, and there are way more positives than negatives. Plus Ryujin is an absolutely monster of a performer in this song and video.
@AZODi
@AZODi 4 года назад
