In the God of War novelization, Athena kills Paris for killing Achilles (who was killed by Apollo). The Trojan War in the God of War verse depicts that there were Greek gods on each side playing the war like chess and having champions fight in the battles for them. We actually get to see him fight in it for a little bit before God shenanigans happens. I forget the name of it but it was a game that ends with Kratos chaining Atlas to the bottom of the world and killing Persephone. During the part where the Persians were attacking they brought a basilisk to attack a seaside city and The Persian King had a power granted by his own Gods. The best way to describe it was the King had a Stand.

The history in gow is not accurate. I think of it like this, ancient Greece in the gow universe has every event and every war, all occuring at roughly the same time. For example, kratos fights hercules and perseus, despite perseus being the great great grandfather of hercules in myth. Kratos also climbs a statue of apollo made by Archemides, then years later fights back the Persian invasion, despite the fact that Archemides was born hundreds of years after the Persian invasions. In gow ascension, his King is Leonidas, yet he fights Thesus, who lived before the trojan war, which was hundreds of years before leonidas. So, as I said, it's best to think of this as an alternate universe, where all ancient history and myth are occuring at roughly the same time.

the 1000+ year old theory was just based on geological events: 464BC sparta earthquake, 535AD volcanic winter. trojan war was from 1194BC. this pushes kratos back up to 1700+ years old considering that the trojan war was his conquest back when he was still a mortal general. after all, at that time, he was fighting "barbarians from the east"
