A lot of people ask Krav Maga vs MMA fight who would win?
Is Krav Maga or MMA which is better for Self Defense. Is Krav Maga legit?
In this video I'm going to turn the famous sentence 'No groin no Krav Maga' around by claiming 'NO MMA NO Krav Maga'
I strongly believe that MMA is a BIG part of Krav Maga. Of course with some important additions and little tactical differences.
Many people ask should I train MMA or Krav Maga especially for self defense?
Krav Maga vs MMA fight seems to be a totally missed question. Is krav maga legit? Krav Maga or MMA for self defense. Are all not the right questions.
The question is do you train your MMA in Krav Maga well and often enough? Does your instructor teach you all the fundamentals of MMA and fighting like striking, wrestling, ground fighting or does he focus mainly/only on techniques. That might be a sign, a bad sign.
Krav Maga is a complete system if you train under LEGIT great instructors. They definitely know fundamentals of fighting which in short is MMA.
Tell me what you think in the comments bellow. I hope you agree that Krav Maga vs MMA is a popular but a bit of a funny question from the perspective of a Krav Maga fighter. MMA is a big part of Krav Maga.

mma fighters dont fight bigger people in competition, but in training they are constantly fighting different sizes

Zambeezi very good point. Still if it would come to competition and win or lose situation, the smaller MMA fighter would be in trouble especially with restrictive MMA rules. But you are right it’s definitely beneficial for all fighters to cross train in different weights. They encounter different problems by doing that.

Fit2FightBack KRAV MAGA another point is that mma fighters can definitely defeat a larger opponent that doesn’t know how to fight which are pretty much most of the people who are going around and picking fights with people out on the streets.

GirlsHave Wieners also a good point. But the moment someone pulls out a knife 🔪 they have no CLEAR idea what works and what doesn’t. The same with multiple attackers and other street problems, not that they can’t fight more than one person but there are specific tactics that make it more likely to win and MMA trained person would most likely do the opposite (according to their training).

Fit2FightBack KRAV MAGA positive an mma fighter can defeat a weirdo with a knife by controlling distance but my original point was only for unarmed combat. I do agree that weapons defense and disarming techniques taught in Krav maga is very useful though.

exactly i agree with you comments! people argue which is better but both are very similar in terms of the techniques, yes krav maga is more aggressive and made for the streets but the punches kicks and takedowns come from mma! could you make a video on adrenaline dumps and how to deal with them? because i have been in some street fights and my adrenaline goes crazy not too sure how to deal with it, thanks!

I currently do BJJ and Krav Maga, life long martial artist I grew up doing Shotokan and Judo, when talking about self defense martial arts I was always inspired by the Tim Kennedy quote "if it doesn't work in a controlled environment It wont work in an uncontrolled one". Thing is the self defense grappling you are taught in KM is very very similar to the Gracie Barra self defense syllabus. So those saying KM is BS etc probably don't know what KM schools are actually teaching!

Hi there, thanks for the video! Great explanation. I'm training Krav Maga for 3 years now and I'm in the middle of my "crisis of faith" - I question all and every aspects or Krav Maga in comparison with other arts/styles. Half a year ago I started boxing with my friend every week. And having a sparring added up to my crisis of faith even more. It is completely different from training the drills against the opponent who doesn't show resistance. Yeah, I mean, even in my Krav Maga school we have sparring sessions in MMA/Boxing format time after time, but they are so rare and so inconsistent so I can never adapt and re-arrange my strategy. And then the question about defending against weapons: does it really make sense to think that a guy who trains, say, 5 years and have p5 has 100% confidence he would defend from a knife attack? I don't think so. So why no just learning MMA? Multiple attackers question: same here, do we really guarantee we can beat 4 guys in a bare knuckle fight being a decent practitioner? Why not do MMA again? This is actually how I found your video, by looking for answers to my questions... Thank you again for a nice video.
@fit2fightbackkravmaga119
@fit2fightbackkravmaga119 3 года назад
Very intelligent questions and I 100% agree with you. Crisis of faith is a great sign of you getting good at fighting in general. I had exactly the same feeling years ago and I realised that Krav Maga without good MMA base is almost useless but then... in my opinion and in my training MMA is a base of Krav Maga anyway (unfortunately that's not the case with all schools I can see around.) Sparring (once you learn some basics like stance, control of power and basic combinations of strikes) should be done minimum once a week. If your Krav school does it not (minimum) weekly but only occasionally despite the level of basic competency of students allowing for controlled and safe sessions - I would question the quality of the school/club. Why not to just do MMA? Does Krav give you guarantee that if you are level P5 you can defend against a knife attack and so on... Very good questions! I would answer like this: There are no guarantees (whatever you are training) so the question comes down to CHANCES. Do you have more of them or less? If you train ONLY MMA you have NO IDEA what to do against a knife threat or an attack so your chances are very low because you will do what you always train to do, randomly punch, kick, grapple without clear idea if/and how should that help you with this specific and unique problem. At the same time you can know all the tricks from Krav but as I said before without MMA skills they also won't work because almost all Krav techniques involve punches, kicks, grappling or ground fighting so if those areas of your fighting are not strong you would be delusional to count on your Krav skills. Also FUN THOUGHT: If you were locked in a room with Alistair Overeem and he told you he's going to rape and murder you, would you like to be trained (just like Alistair) in MMA and fight one of the best MMA fighters in the world in MMA way, respecting the MMA rules or you would maybe prefer to be great at MMA but add all the possible Krav Maga craziness, with unlimited possibilities of using common objects and consistently trained, sport illegal but effective attacks? Still this guy could rape and murder you but coming back to the question of chances: if you fight him in the MMA style only, you might as well stop resisting and enjoy the rape part at least :D If you use Krav Maga and have the mindset and training of hitting people with a fire extinguisher, kicking or twisting their groin, biting the neck and gouging their eyes in close distance (especially on the ground) in my opinion you have MUCH MORE CHANCE of getting out of such situation alive. Hope that example made you laugh :D but also I hope it made you think. As for multiple attackers, the idea of an MMA fighter is to STAY in the fight and most of the time focus on one of the attackers and win against him, then maybe move on to the next one. Terrible tactic for a street fight against multiple attackers! Skill wise MMA is great (in most cases but not all) but tactically speaking it is for a street fight or a fight against armed opponents or even against someone who's generally much bigger and stronger than you. There is a reason there are weight categories in MMA. I hope you enjoyed my essay if you got to the end of it :D All the best and keep training and intelligently question! You are doing very well, you are definitely on the right path! If you are ever interested in training with us online feel free to drop us a line at workshops@fit2fightback.com and we will get back to you with details.

Late to the party. I guess my take on martial arts is that the answer is almost always "yes and" rather than "either or". An MMA fighter could probably win against a Krav practitioner, and vice versa. Hell, a random street chud can get lucky and knock either one out. Style vs. style is a dead horse so thoroughly pulverized that a patch of flowers grows there now. Let us frolic among them, you and I.

Is Krav Maga still effective without the foul moves like groin hits or eye gouges or throat hits is it still a wholesome fighting style without those but those are good moves when needed. Krav Maga for self-defense is the most effective real-world system taught today. Originally developed for protection in the Bratislava ghetto, it was later refined and embraced by Israeli Defense Forces. Today, it is the preferred system for law enforcement agencies and U.S. and other military units. Make no mistake: MMA is designed as a sport. While the move set is designed to incapacitate opponents, the goal is to do so without serious injury. Modern Krav Maga is intended to keep you alive in actual emergency situations by any means necessary. This philosophy leads to a different training style and movesets than sport fighting. Weapons - Most MMA competitions usually do not rely on weapons. The few that do start opponents on even footing, equally armed and armored. Krav Maga weapons drills are designed to give their practitioners the ability to work from a disadvantageous position against an armed opponent and survive. This is a powerful method of preparing for real-world self-defense scenarios, and is a prime example of what Krav Maga vs MMA training prepares you for. Rules, Rules, Rules - Sports need rules to maintain fairness and limit injury. Assailants in the real world don’t play fair. While certain moves and holds, such as groin strikes or fishhooking, are forbidden in MMA, Krav Maga has one rule: survive. Small Differences, Big Problem - While MMA may pull from different styles, it has become a style all its own. A fighter using techniques their opponent is not familiar with has a huge advantage. A good example of this is Lyoto Machida’s Karate-point-fighting style on his run to the UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship. It lasted until opponents began to specifically train and prepare for his techniques. One difference in Krav Maga vs MMA is that Krav Maga provides training for a greater variety of threats. You will be better prepared to defend against unfamiliar styles after training with Krav Maga. The bottom line is that while both disciplines can give you useful self-defense skills, MMA and Krav Maga are not designed equally for self-defense. Real fights happen in alleys and outside bars, not in cages. In a real survival situation, you can bet that your attacker has not trained to fight just like you. MMA has its place as a sport, but can quickly fall short of the tactics that may be required for real-world survival.

Max Gaming you are right there is no competition in Krav Maga but every good club will have sparring sessions. You won’t get a medal but you will learn proper fighting under stress. Clubs don’t go to different MMA or kickboxing clubs to compete (I don’t think the other ones would feel comfortable with the possibility of getting kicked in the balls ;) Individual students do cross train and compete in sport based systems. If you train in a good Krav Maga club and you are dedicated you will have all the tools needed to do VERY well in MMA or Kickboxing. Just make sure you know the rules of the sport you compete in and don’t hit anyone to the back of the head or the groin etc. In Krav you don’t have the limitation of rules that’s what makes it so effective on the street. Hope that answers your question. Enjoy your training! Krav Maga is awesome but remember that it consists of Kickboxing and MMA (and much more) in itself so by making one better you are affecting the other.

Two points, 1. Krav Maga was "battle tested" learned in the trenches and developed to save people's lives in the Jewish quarter against fascist groups.Life and death were a factor in the founding of Krav. MMA doesn't kill anyone. Life doesn't have weight classes, referees, a cage or rounds. That being said, I don't understand why people always pit Krav Maga vs MMA as who would win a fight. Both are taught similar punches, kicks, wrestling and BJJ. A jab is a jab no matter who throws it. Krav training also goes through the same conditioning as MMA so who would outlast a fight doesn't make sense to me either. My second point, the Israeli Army has adopted Krav Maga as their fighting system. People say that Krav only works on untrained fighters doesn't make sense either. If you think MMA fighters are the best conditioned then I challenge you to watch videos on MMA fighters doing boot camps and military training. Israel is surrounded by people who want to wipe them off the face of the earth. Do you think they spun the wheel on martial arts and decided to take just anything? It stands to reason that Krav maga works not only on untrained fighters but also against highly trained and sophisticated warriors who are battle tested and are trying to take your life. The Isreal military is going into battle against other highly trained militaries. Think about it.
@fit2fightbackkravmaga119
@fit2fightbackkravmaga119 3 года назад
Very well said. As you mentioned, there should be no difference in Krav fighter and MMA fighter in terms of the essential fighting skills. The difference might happen in Krav having much more training against knife, multiple attackers, self defence situations like chokes, grabs and guns which MMA doesn't even touch. At the same time a PRO MMA fighter spends his LIFE training (hopefully almost every day many hours) so I would hope that he's a better fighter than some 55 years old guy or a woman who has trained Krav Maga for the last year or two and yet... ...that 55 year old person by training Krav has SIGNIFICANTLY increased their chances of success in a dangerous physical confrontation in life.

Can you please stop that military are as conditioned as top athletes claims : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy_SEAL_selection_and_training But at French sports university the the tests are harder than PST of Navy Seals : sess-staps.u-pec.fr/servlet/com.univ.collaboratif.utils.LectureFichiergw?ID_FICHIER=1259768732149 page 17 of 57 for 400 meters swimming and page 47 of 57 for 3000 meters run times to get 10 out of 20 aka to pass the test minimum time required. Seals : 500 yards (447meters) swim in minimum 12 minutes 30 seconds Sportsuniversity France : 400 meters (437 yards) swim in 7 minutes to pass with 10 out of 20 points for men (and 7 minutes 51 seconds for women to pass with 10 out of 20 points) Seals 1.5 mile run (2414 meters) run in less than 10 minutes 30 seconds Sportsuniversity France : 3000 meters (1.86 miles) run in less than 10 minutes for men to pass with only half the points 10 out of 20 (and 8 minutes for 2000 meters aka 1.24 miles for women to pass with 10 out of 20 points only). Each year to pass into next year, thousands of sports students in France alone beat the times required by the phase 1 Navy Seal sports tests. Then you have to take into account all the other nations in the world and their sports students tests, just to see that phase 1 Navy Seal sports is far from the impressive sports tests people on social media claim to be. Phase 3 (potentially life threatening ammo and explosives) is where the Seals sort out the real deal . And not the way "easier" phase 1 that most top 30% of sports students in France and many nations all around the world beat. It is a bit like the social media myth that Navy Seals have the best snipers (many times they do not win the competitions between military of the world and police special forces. And the other social media myth that bare handed no weapon and no knife, a Navy Seal would beat the UFC heavyweight. The Seals are not the best athletes and not the best hand to hand fighters in the world, they are among the top of the world allround warfare specialists which needs way more than only sports.
@THEREALZENFORCE
@THEREALZENFORCE 3 года назад
@ timst : and these are Navy Seals sports tests. For the basic military in the world men do not even come close to women French sports university times to get 10 out of 20 points to pass. Then if you live in a fantasy world where militaries are physically equal to top national and international level athletes, continue dreaming but this is not reality. And then you are still far away from the best athletes and especially Olympic top athletes. In any sports university you can look up the run, jump, swimming times, they beat you by far, there you can also look up the top times and limits that you have to pass in different sports disciplines to try to come close to the best athletes in the World and at those sports universities (in France for example) you can find many of the top athletes in their branch and see how far you are from your claims. The top Women will outrun, outswim, outjump 99% of military men (even special forces). And the top male athletes in the World are unreachable for military (even special forces). You can try do do better than the top national and international decathlon athletes, you will 99,99% fail in the overall ten disciplines. Same as with triathletes or gymnasts. You will not even beat regional athletes. So please stop with those lies that military are physically better than top athletes, most of you men do not even beat the women times to pass in the next year in French and German sports universities.

"The Israel military is going into battle against other highly trained militaries" USA, France, UK, Germany, Russia, China military ??? If you think MMA fighters are the best conditioned then I challenge you to watch videos on MMA fighters doing boot camps and military training" I challenge you to better than the for me easy then sports times of the links i gave you. You also have to do 1000 meters in less than 3min 04 seconds to pass with average 10 out of 20 and way under 2 min 50 if you want to have a good grade number for your tests. The World record is around 2 minutes 12 seconds (good luck military :-) You have to triple jump at least 11 meters 64 centimeters. You have to pole vault at least 3 meters 90 centimeters (over 4m20 would be good) You have to throw a javelin at least 43 meters (over 60m would be good) You have to climb at least 6b route to pass (7b or 7c would be good). The best in my class did an 8c and 9a route (one of the top world climbers). You would have to swim 400 meters in less than just 7 minutes flat just to pass with 10 out of 20 points, the minimum needed to pass. 3000 meters (1.86 miles) run in less than 10 minutes for men to pass with only half the points 10 out of 20 And that is not even a third of all over 30 disciplines you would have to pass with less than 3 months of training in each. Good luck for that. Than there is also Savate (French Kickboxing), Judo (randori), Gymnastics (all elements besides rings) and collective sports, mountain climbing, mountain bike down hill ski pists in summer, Rugby, Basketball, Handball, Football (Soccer), Kayak, Tennis, Table Tennis, Badmington, and much more you have to be good at, etc, etc to pass your years. Second, please stop taling about defending about multiple opponents.Try to incapacitate 3 person with 3 groin kicks/ throat punches/ eye pokes before they are on you blocking with their weight and before the maul you with a barrage of punches and kicks.If you can handles distances is way easier boxing with them until you can escape, but knocking out them hitting vulnerable points when they are 3 - even 2 - on 1 is impossible.

Mma does not teach u to deal with varried chokes and other attacks that are illegal. It also teaches you to deal with knives, sticks and other things. It also teaches you techniques against punches, kicks and other weapons that would be illegal in the ufc.

Good and logical points Francesco but it clearly shows that you have never trained Krav Maga and you have no idea about the tactics of fighting multiple opponents, armed opponents, protecting VIP and so on. Groin kicks and eye pokes are just a nice bonus in Krav Maga as I said every Kraver should be (unfortunately is not always the case) a very decent MMA fighter as all you do in MMA is trained in Krav and much more. I have a big respect to MMA and you might possibly be a good fighter but open your mind a little and try something new. If you are good at MMA you will excel at Krav very fast and I’m sure you will find it fascinating, useful and an awesome addition to MMA if you learn from someone on a high level.

MMA does not teach self defense in case of guns, sticks and knives and does not teach how to use knives and sticks.

I did, many times. Once you actually watch the video you will understand that Krav Maga is MMA + Self Defence and Military Techniques. So why would it be a problem for a good Kraver to spar an MMA guy? It's mutually beneficial and fun.

@@combatoutlook5184 I like your Sherlock Holmes style :) Would it satisfy you? You would always say that the MMA guy wasn't Tony Ferguson or he was crap in your 'professional' opinion so why would I try to prove anything to you? If you are happy thinking that you know anything about Krav Maga or MMA why would I try to change that. I'm not here to make you feel bad. You can think whatever makes you happy.

No mma is a martial art . Cage fighting is a sport . Really think about how bad an MMA fighter could hurt you if there was no tapping .

If an MMA fighter and a Krav Maga practitioner had a fight to the death, the mma fighter would win. The krav expert is trained to try and end the fight quickly and get out of there however, it will mostly only work if his opponent is untrained or unexpecting of it. The mma fighter is trained to fight until he can’t fight anymore or has stopped the other person. Although the Krav Maga guy trains to kick the groin and poke the eye, he isn’t trained to keep the fight going. The mma fighter isn’t trained to poke the eye or get the groin but he or she can keep the fight going and can still block groin kicks and eye pokes. Krav Maga is use full against untrained people. People with weapons People who don’t expect to get counter attacked Possibly Multiple attackers Mma is better for fighting a person one on one. Again I believe that the mma fighter will more likely defeat the Krav Maga expert in a unarmed fight (even to the death) because even though the Krav guy is trained to do groin strikes and eye pokes he isn’t trained to keep a fight going. The mma fighter can keep a fight going and also pick up how to use eye pokes and groin strikes with ease.

Over all in survival and on the streets where most people aren’t trained to fight, have weapons or gang attack people, etc. Krav Maga will be more useful. In a 1 on 1 fight the mma guy is going to win.

Even though I seem hateful of Krav Maga, I do believe it is a really important way of survival. Personally In the future I would like to do both mma and Krav Maga.

Interesting points and a well articulated comment. It all depends on too many factors to tell for sure. One point to take into account is how good is the Krav and MMA fighter. Not every guy who trains Krav Maga is a Krav Maga fighter and not every guy who trains MMA is an MMA fighter. If we are talking about the same skill level then there is a question if we are also talking about the same weight category? As I can promise you if the Kraver is as high level as the MMA fighter but 30kg heavier the MMA guy even in 1 to 1 'fair' fight will be dead. The only chance we have when someone is 30kg bigger is common objects like knife, baseball bat, chair etc. and points like groin, eyes and throat. On top of that every good Kraver should be a VERY decent MMA fighter as the system has EVERYTHING mma has including a lot of full contact sparring. Thanks for your comment and I hope that you will get to train both at some point and understand the how similar MMA and Krav Maga are. Krav Maga on a good level is MMA + military self defense techniques.

Fit2FightBack KRAV MAGA it really depends I really believe that the kraver would have to be a better mma fighter as well. I mean ofc if you were fighting yourself who is the Same skill, speed, etc, but like bigger, you will never win. But in the case of a 1v1 I do believe that I do believe that the bigger kraver needs mma, the art of keeping a fight going, and be more skilled at it, to defeat the smaller guy. This also depends on which weight they are at if it is like 145 pounds vs 210 pound guy ofc the 210 pound guy has a major advantage but, if it’s 240 vs 310 pounds, the 240 guy will be at an advantage due to cardio vascular energy.

One example is randy couture vs Tim Sylvia, although this was not a street fight, it still shows something. Bob sapp vs Ramaeu Thierry sokoudjo. Fedor vs honk konk giant or what ever. Im going to say this again, if a bigger kraver tries to fight a fight where he needs to keep the fight going with out mma experience, he will lose to an mma fighter who is trained to do so. Honestly I believe that in the way of equally skilled meaning the top of their respective arts, the mma fighter will defeat a bigger kraver if they decided to fight to the death, the bigger guy will wear out, while realizing that the methods of a martial art or self defense system that he is trained to use isn’t being used correctly for the scenario that he is currently in while trying to fight a guy who is doing exactly what he is trained to do. With this being said, I believe that Krav Maga, mma. Self defense methods and SOME martial arts are as essential as food and water.
