For all those who are trying to understand what is going on at 3:25 - 5:10 splash part, Darkside is playing 2/4 with his feet, 3/4 at left hand, 4/4 right hand. I was near to suffer a cerebral stroke trying to get it. Youre welcome.
Dude, I said the same when I first heard this, serious interesting drum work, very diff for this genre, and he carries the songs so well, the music rides on his rhythms. Solid creative stuff
In case anyone else was wondering Spoken word sample from "The Other Death" is taken from this audiobook: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zxr4OypjPW4.html The quote is: "The Bible speaks of a mysterious sin for which there is no forgiveness. I have never understood what it could be; but now I understand. The great, unpardonable sin is to murder the love-life in a human soul... You have done that”
@@shlepkovac3759 So are Kriegmaschine, your point is? Sell them to me. All I saw was fuss after their last album was released and it didn't really warrant it.
The funny part is he doesn't... He said himself he doesn't even practice that much, got that from an interview that was published a year ago or so. He is just blessed with creativity
Drums are insane! Not only technically, but in a creative way too. That's so rare in black metal drumming. Very nice. I even thought this was DRUM album, other instruments were just fillers.
@@Qwerty-ks8dn holds true for most BM bands musically I presume, but even "amateurs" can sometimes make atmospheric music. Or to say it in another way: music doesn't have to be complicated or technically advanced to be good. notable examples include Mgła themselves and also Aosoth or example. Early darkthrone and Burzum as well. Then on the other hand you have bands like dodecahedron or deathspell omega or thy darkened shade that musically bring a lot more to the table than a few power chords or tremolo picking...
Residual Blight 00:00 I alone have known all shades of the horror. I am the pit without sun, where blind beasts dwell. I am the revenant at the very bottom of the source. Never to grow weary. Running on doubt. Dead thoughts, dead movements, dead ideals, dead desires. Beneath this world there is another, built of bone and decay. Grey hell. Dry. Motionless. Upon even rows of downfall. Methodized loss. Inherent ruin. Residual blight. For these gates need to be opened. For this shell needs to be broken. Ether guerilla. All hail the alpha fallen. Dead words, dead drives, dead passions, dead urges, dead dreams. As the world above is shrinking, the one below thrives. Cinder springs. Ashen horizon. The sarcastic grinning of gargoyles. The refuge among scattered remains. The temples of iron and concrete. The great death. The silence. The roaring depths of insight. The maze of severance. The golden throne, abandoned. The agony. The strife. The penance. I alone have known all shades of the horror. I alone have seen the rays of lost grace. Residual blight. A sunless pit to crawl in. Ether guerilla. All hail the alpha fallen. . The Pallid Scourge 07:22 He'd cut himself open. Plant the seeds of plague within. Wear a scripture of scars. Caress the acerbic gangrene. Build on decay. Grow upon failure. Absorb rot. Devour corruption. Feed on ruin. Crawl through the pits. Gaze into gray skies. Swallow the ashen ardor. Tear off the eyelids. Peel the skin away. Coil his limbs into a breathing sculpture. He would become the pallid scourge. Court offender in service of loss. The herald of doom comes in silence. His presence revealed in trembling of history. He would rise a new temple. Paint its walls with refined filth. Burn bricks off crushed lives. Pave the road with lost forgiveness. The herald of doom comes without fanfare. The ashes of empires beneath his feet. Bones of the fallen pulverized to dust. Joined together with spit of the virtuous. Hardened in boiling bile of the holy men. Immersed in the unknown. Tempered in a haze of sulphurous fumes. He would bleed all over this stone. The herald of doom comes with a promise. The true believer craves change. He would cast away his light and his shadow. He would become one with the pallid scourge. 3. Lost in Liminal 15:13 A temporary descent into the depths of the underworld ends up an odyssey through pale Gehinnom. Detached and stray, adrift, frail. No fire to flicker. No shadows to grow. Rite of passage gone wrong. Lost in liminal. Warped patterns. Fractured truths. No shores in sight. No trail ahead. In radiance of a broken prism. Led through scorched earth. Forever in friction. Without purpose. No-way there. No other world and no other truth. No other aim and no other path. No other will and no other fall. No other mind. No other heart. A blind communion. A dirge for the ego. Lost in liminal. 4. Apocalypticists 22:32 Consciousness reworked. Sequences shifted. Thought crystallized. Dark veil risen. Whom seek to liberate. Whom seek the inmost truth. Whom entered the path and stumbled. One hell of epiphany. Delirium, and inherent discontent and hunger. An anchorite immured within cursing stones and their discordant chant. An offering refused. Nothing ecstatic about this truth and even gods have deserted. No one will be awaken. No one will be released. And those spastic wriggles of a semazen, desperate with the notion of a flat-lined thought. No one will be awaken. No one will be released. Revelato. An abode of distress. A resonant blasphemy. A constellation of black holes. A clay ratio. Another turn of the wheel of deconstruction. This particular mind has specialized in howling. No one will be awaken. No one will be released. 5. The Other Death 29:46 My prophecy is a nightmare. My path is a like a hedge of thorns. On to the burning wastes. On to the great rift. To harvest the bitter fruit and drink from the barren springs. My land is roamed by worms. My teeth is gnashing. A shrine of flesh that had risen. A mind that sparked above the stars. Scorched in the consuming fire in the forges of the nether god. Towards the noumenon. Deprived of both a body and the mind that animates it, the soul is petrified in a monstrous satori. It is hermeticism of the abyss that has trampled it into a blunt instrument of enlightenment. Towards the noumenon. Towards apocalypse. A lifetime of unquenchable thirst and ravenous hunger has carved out an devouring automata. Destroyed by the bitterness of its grievous and long-protracted punishment. My cup runneth dry. My house is divided. On to the burning wastes. On to the great rift. A vast network of fractures. The forecourts of Sheol. The night is as a garment. The face has been obscured. Apex prelest. Conscious nothing. Axis damni. Embers of pneuma. Disunity. Estrangement. The cruelty of the other death. 6. On the Essence of Transformation 41:07 This is the nexus of perdition. This is the core of the fall. Worked out arduously in fear, trembling and fever. The body wrecked. The mind shattered. The soul destroyed. Ripe for apocalypse. And everything that constituted yourself, all the things you've done and those you could have. The joyous memories, the warmth and the calm. The silly thought that one day a change would come. The naive adolescence, off track with its dreams, but in the end - harmless and innocent. The anecdotes, and digressions and pauses. Those moments of bliss atop the green hills. The illusion of belief, justification and truth. All those things you've learned for later, for another life. And every word that could be spoken, every thought that could be born and all that could have been is now no more.
@@GAB-vq7re It's the progression that makes this a masterpiece. Consider: Residual Blight - an observation of the upper and nether Worlds, and the acknowledgement of solitude. The Pallid Scourge - what should be done next, the description of the Path. Lost In Liminal - the beginning of the Path, still bound to the upper World, the hardships of beginnings. Apocalypticists - the epiphany, the clarity of the Path, the uttermost dedication to the goal. The Other Death - the pain of losing of the Soul. On The Essence Of Transformation - the final look back to what once was, the final Death and the completion of the Path.
This LP is proof that legitimate Black Metal records needn't be recorded with a button microphone lodged deep in the arsehole of a demon goat... this sounds full & heavy & has dynamic range. You can actually HEAR them playing.
@@unlightofficial8571 for the first wave bands - like Bathory - it was a lack of budget and also limited knowledge in how to record music this extreme. But for 2nd wave pioneers like Darkthrone and Emperor it was an aesthetic choice, and not "all they had". The raw production was part of the sound. But like other's have said, a cleaner sound definitely suits Kriegsmachine's approach.
At 39:55 the song is practically over, right? And here comes some bloke and says "Ψυχή, δεν έχω άλλο πια"(A Soul, I have no more) in your native language, in the middle of the night. Great, now I'm sober again thanksalot.
“I don't like work--no man does--but I like what is in the work--the chance to find yourself. Your own reality--for yourself not for others--what no other man can ever know. They can only see the mere show, and never can tell what it really means.” ― Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness
this is what happens when an awesome drummer forgets how awesome he is, and decides to push himself Beyond his limitations. killer stuff, the most technical and creative drumming i've heard in decades!
@@andersonprimer A great description of enjoying the dark music indeed, which I suppose most metal listeners go through, as for beautifully apocalyptic or nihilistic production :D. A saying in Arabic is (translated): "The worst of misfortune/mischance makes a person laugh". I remember, when my cousin died, his mother laughed for a moment as she knew, obviously not for being happy, but immensely shocked.
"The Bible speaks of a mysterious sin for which there is no forgiveness. I have never understood what it could be, but now I understand. The great, unpardonable sin is to murder the love life in a human soul. You have done that. " The cruelty of the other death.
This has all the dark, cold evilness of black metal fused with the sheer inventiveness and groove of the best of what math rock/metal has to offer. Very interesting mix. Not very often bands can hold onto that dark atmosphere when they go super complex and technical.
Lars Urlich: I play drums in the best metal band Darkside: Ok ok...But check it out... 21:18 - 22:25 Lars Urlich: Mommy, can I sleep today with the light on?
I like how guitar and drums are so different. One is liquid in layers the other is... Well, the drummer is genius. They definitely had some fun creating this masterpiece.

Yesterday I talked about Mgla and Kriegsmaschine with a friend. And that they need to release new music. Here we go! Edit: Very good album so far! Big support from Germany.
@@behindthen0thing Only the US can have pipeline/gas/oil wars, where we supposedly liberate oppressed locals. When Russia does the same, it must be because Putin wants to reunite the Soviet Union.
If you haven't checked out Kriegsmaschines Album before that, Enemy of Man, than go and listen to that RIGHT NOW. In my opinion it surpasses even the MGLA stuff by a notch.
I like that each album is a little different with Kriegsmaschine, altered states was pretty raw and straightforward, enemy of man a bit more modern and this one is more trancelike... the drumming is again the cherry on top for me.
So check out other Polish great bands: Medico Peste, Iperyt, Infernal War, Morowe, Odraza, Wedrujacy Wiatr, Plaga, Outre, Furia and Polish B.M. classic album: Christ Agony- Deamoonseth Act II. Cheers!
The spoken word transition from The Other Death into On The Essence Of Transformation is one of the most powerful musical moments I ever experienced, and it's more of a recitation than music. Can anybody provide a transcription, please? I'm not sure how many languages I hear, there's Greek, Russian, German...
thanks a lot! I did understand the Russian/slavonic one, and I got together the German, but I missed the Italian completely and I doubt that I'd get the Greek correct.
@@Syko1985 sorry if i came off like a jerk. You're definitely right, for blackmetal definitely, i like his style a lot, i just wouldnt compare him to the " real freaks " like the aforementioned haake, or Matt Garstka or Aric Improta. Cheers
Yesterday morning I was like ah let's listen to some good "old" krieg, havent heard that one in a while and boom next thing a new album came out, I think not more then a hour later. Supriseeeee and it was and still is a very very pleasant suprise! those drumssssssss 🤤🤤🤤🤤
Lmao. M and Darkside just couldn't have one fucking amazing band, they decided they gotta have two on the run. Genius. The drumming in this is making my nose bleed, I love it.
An epic Black manifesto, nihilism at its finest. "Residual blight" is by far the most horrific sight on the dark of despair I've even had in my life. And damn, those drums are the tank driven by Evil itself on the ruins of this world - of each world. Capolavoro.
This band and MGLA are the best Heavy Metal bands on planet earth nowadays. Pure Art, music as Metal should be, no mainstream and totally underground. Even the artwork is simple and artistic. Buy directly from the label and support Real Heavy Metal, the prices are great and honest, compared to the shitty limited edition or other crappy mainstream albums.
The music of Kriegsmaschine and mgla is just incredible. Their songs are the soundtrack to our absurd existences. The destroyer of all ideas of primitive morality and obsolete virtues. Thanks for that. Another jewel in the ever growing garbage dump of modern music ;)
