👉 In this video, we are taking you to Kuangsi Waterfall or called "Tad Kuangsi" in Lao language (Tad means Waterfall). A must-visit sight when you come to Luang Prabang. This waterfall will absolutely take your breath away ithough you've probably seen a number of its photos throughout the social media.
Chris and I agree that this is one of the most beautiful waterfalls we've ever seen.
👉 Why Kuangsi Waterfall?
Kuangsi Waterfall is unique and nothing like you will have ever seen before. The bright green-blue color of the water is reflected by its flows over many limestone rocks on its cycle. In spite of the large number of visitors to the sight, we still felt peaceful and relaxing during our time there.
👉 When is the best time to visit Kuangsi Waterfall?
We highly recommend you come to visit during the dry season which starts from late October to March or April as you will get to witness the clear green-blue color of the falls. If you choose to visit during the rainy season which starts from early June to mid-October, you will get to see how powerful the waterfall is yet the color of the water is more brown yet still clear enough for you to want to jump in the water.
If you don't wish to hit big crowds, we suggest you get there early morning 7am or 8am but not later than 01pm, otherwise, you may have to fight for a spot to take a photo. =D
👉 How to get to Kuangsi Waterfall from Luang Prabang city center?
Kuangsi Waterfall is about 30km from the city center of Luang Prabang. There are a few options that you may want to consider to get to the waterfall.
1. Scooter Rental
Scooter rental can cost from USD 4 - USD 18 depending on how many hours you want to rent it for. We spent USD 8 for 8 hrs for an electric scooter rented from DiscoverLaos EV Scooter & Car Rental. It took us about 30 minutes to drive the scooter from the city center to the falls. The road was not too bad but you can expect some potholes here and there. We highly recommend you to experience this option as it was so much fun for us the best part is that you will get to see the amazing landscape and mountain throughout the drive. If you decide to drive a scooter there, please be pre-caution on the road.

2. Tuk Tuk/ Taxi/Mini-van
If you don't wish to rent a scooter or vehicle yourself, you can always pay for a Tuk Tuk/Taxi or mini-van it will cost from USD 15 - USD 20 per roundtrip.
Note: We understand by comparing to other countries, Tuk Tuk/Taxi service fees are more expensive than the neighboring countries the reason is that Laos has imported 100% gasoline mainly from other countries so we pay a much higher price (USD 1.20/litter for Diesel and USD 1.50/Litter for gasoline). Please take this into consideration before you bargain or negotiate your ride.
👉 What is the admission per person?
Lao citizen: LAK 15,000/p (USD 0.75)
Foreigner: LAK 25,000/p (USD 1.25)
👉 What else do we recommend?
- Please don't forget to bring your change clothes if you plan to jump into the waterfall for a swim or just want to feel refreshed, especially in April and May (the warmest time in Laos). Or They also swimwear wears at the sight.
- Carry some cash for the parking and admission fees.
