Kirkuk was once a Kurdish place. However, Saddam Hussein gave large sums of money to Iraqis to move there, and later on, Iraq fought for control of the city with the help of the Turks. Today, there are still Kurds who want Kirkuk to be Kurdish again, but they face death in the process. Kirkuk is a mess, the whole ordeal started because Kirkuk is oil-rich.
I had to speak about those selfish Taxi drivers 😒... i am terribly sorry for that Scene they made they Are %80 times like that we locals Rarely go with them unless we have to do it we won't because they always charge more than it should be i am Glad you could negotiate with them or they would have ripped you off they are like that people like those exits everywhere thanks God in Kurdistan the likes of them are very little and most of us are good people i hope you never experience things like that again in kurdistan and i hope you come back to kurdistan again in the future May God be with you always your kurdish brother.
10,000 IQD for taxi is not that much from terminal to Khan Saray hotel because it is in the middle of bazar and it is very crowded area, to get there by car requires a lot of time

Friend, do you see the mini bus at the Erbil Garage right across the taxis? That is the Slemani mini bus which charges you only 10,000 IQD. As for the front seat; those taxi drivers changer you more than the usual price, which is against the law--they are not allowed to do that since the seats are all the same. If you took the mini bus, you would pay 10,000 IQD even for the front seat; this is even safer. When you arrived to Slemani, you should not have taken the taxis in from of the garage; these taxi drivers take advantage of the fact that foreigners are not usually familiar with public transport/pay more. You could wait a bit right on that street until Tasluja bus, a public transport, would come and take you to your exact destination Khan Saray Hotel only for 1,000 IQD.
