On the dirt road my old wr250f would beat my buddies cr450 until 4th or 5th gear becuase the 450 tire would just spin so much and my 250 4 stroke would not spin it would just go making me win most drags on dirt but if he got traction it was over ..
The only reason the 450 didnt win-The rider on the 450 doesnt know how to do a take off, although the two stroke is spinning a little the 450 is faster....although the two stroke bike can come close with a rider that really knows what hes doing(2 stroke bikes usually put out similar or more power, but the 4 stroke has a broader power band. Its alooot harder to harness the power from a 2 stroke)
idk why but it’s something about the 03s that just make them unique from any other year they feel like there faster and lighter not to mention one of the best looking bikes out there 250 2t 03 rider as well😎
Everyone let’s take some time to appreciate both these beautiful bikes. Btw this comment section is not very toxic surprisingly and it’s good people aren’t going on about 450 better or 250 better
I can’t decide which one I like more so I have two 450s and a 250 2stroke… only logical option haha Can’t beat the two-stroke no doubt about that but there’s just something about the convenience of pulling up to a pump and topping off the tank and driving away that has a great ring to it lol
BassinBraden I agree but the 450 is still hands down faster... I’ve had both and like 2 strokes better but the 450 faster in most situations it’s just like you get the power faster but don’t seem nearly as fun to ride... I bought a 450 and instantly got 10 years older 😂
I love my 98 kx250. I just hate working on it once every other week while my friends on their four strokes just clean there air filters and change their oil lol
Can't beat that old school power im all about that mid 90's early 2000's era of motocross and freestyle and I gotta say I'm not surprised that 03 Kowalski walked that 450 even though that 450 is sick asf too love the retro plastics, but I got a 03 ktm 250 and125sx that would give that kx250 a run for its money lol stay gnarly
No 250 2stroke puts out over 55 hp stock, the kx450f’s are monsters, 10-13 all put out over 53-54 hp 12-55.8 and 13-55.2. This has been verified by many tests. Dirt wheels, moto cross magazine, trans world motocross you name it! No stock 250 2 stroke does that, maybe 45-48. On pavement with both good riders the 450 would pull the 250x ask me how I know? Oh, cuz I have a 97 kx250 and a 14 kx450f and I love both of my bikes.
I have a question for you since you have both. I can’t decide what I want still just yet. I love the powerband of the 2 stroke because of that acceleration rush. But how good are the 2 strokes cruising a bit. I don’t do tons but some. And do the 250s really as have much low end as some people say? Thanks!
I love 2 strokes because their power is soooo immense and untamed & they’re so loud and smell amazing wen burning gas 🤣🤣🤣 BUTTTT… the fact of the matter is, they break down way too easy, they require a ton more maintenance, and they just aren’t as reliable as a 4stroke. Reliability is big. The only way a 250 is spanking a 450 is if the rider doesn’t know the bike, or the rider simply doesn’t know how to ride.
Clean and clear win for the kx original kx 250 all day long smoke s all 4 strokes just asked the pros and they'll tell you that 4 strokes are for the poor people who can't afford the plugs rings and tune-up and time and seat time to get used to the power and the take off.
250 2 strokes rev up so quick its hard to outrun one off the line. 1-3 250 2 stroke 4-5 450 more than likely would be the outcome. That surface looks really lose too tho.
side note I'm big into jet skis I ride a modded 96 xp seadoo 800cc 2 stroke. When the carbs are dialed in and its 60-85 degrees out i can run with the new supercharged 300 seadoos. (1600 cc 4 stroke with a supercharger). They will get me on top end but I pull on them all they way to my top speed which is about 63(they run 68). weight is huge factor too considering mine weighs about 400 and a new 300 seadoo weighs around 800.Its still cool to see an older machine run with a 16k new one.
That's a fact. My old kx250f smoked every single 250 2 stroke I came across. It wasn't even a competition. Unpopular opinion: most 450's will smoke any 500 two stroke. As long as the rider can put the power down
2 strokes are cool and all but they blow up way too easy for me I guess I've owned 2 2 stroke bikes and they have blowed up on me I switched to a 4 stroke and never had a problem
They blew up because your not mixing oil properly, you should be mixing 32:1 and I recommend Amsoil dominator because my 1998 kx125 has been tortured to this day and haven't changed nothing and the proof for that is I went through 10+ rear tires.
Mix the oil right use good oil and let them warm up they last a very long time ive got a kdx ive had over 15 years passed it down to my son still have not put a top in it
Guy on the 450 doesn't know how to ride very well or keep his bike under control. I feel if we had more experienced riders the 450 would win with the 250 close beside it or winning on some runs.
450 eaiser to ride 250 funner to ride....Ok but the 250 is spinning less, get this the 450 has at least 5 more hp also more power and torque everywhere, it weighs maybe 10 lbs more so besides traction issues no 250 is gonna hole shot a newer 2009 and up 450, in a race many 250 racers beat 450 guys, but then again 125 racers beat 250 guys, so just ride both have fun don't get hurt.
I think it's hilarious that this 4 stroke vs 2 stroke horse shits going on when 90% of you have probably never been in the power band of a 2 stroke for more than 3 seconds on a ride. 2 strokes lighter, has 30% more power yes. But there is a good reason why most manufacturers are stopping the 2 stroke.
Ya the 4 stroke offers job security for dealer mechanics and once the owner sees the bill it's cheaper to just buy a new bike. Same shit car manufacturer do. You could call it sales security. If the manufactures didnt help ban the 2 stroke in ama. The 4 strokes would not have marketed nearly as well. That being said the 4 stroke offers something the 2t doesn't. And it's a very important part of racing. Its usable power. Linear power. In other words traction. 2 strokes deliver it all at once. Wich makes thier power no matter how much less applicable
