ℹ️ About the Episode: It's not always easy to stay flexible when you're RVing. Just like everyone else, our disappointment is equal to our excitement. We've said before that the planning process is part of the fun. When we plan our trips and activities, we get more excited to take the trip (which is why it's important to include everyone in the planning). But when things don't go to plan, it stinks. It's normal to be disappointed when you're well-laid plans don't come together, but we've learned to recenter and pivot as quickly as possible. In the case of our trip to Tehachapi, CA, at least it was fun to see these giant helicopters come and go and see firsthand the professionalism of CalFire. *Just a bit salty we couldn't get a ride! In this episode, we leave Newport, CA, and make our way inland to go gliding. Then we head back to the coast and pick up a cancellation at Morro Bay State Park Campground and enjoy a meet-up in SLO. We also share some of the things to do in the area when you visit, plus some highlights from previous trips.

😂you made me smile real big this evening! I ask you a week or two ago if you would mind dropping in some shots of trains from time to time and low and behold, you did! My wife and I stopped RVing last year after 22 years because of our age. We were never full time but have been in all 48 states plus Canada. I'm a retired Metrolink train operator and have loved trains all my life. I travel vicariously with you now and love it. Keep up the great show and safe travels. See Tracks! THINK TRAINS!

I remember camping at Morro Bay in the late 60s. Three days of non-stop rain! We were in a van and a Hi-Lo trailer (15' hitch to bumper)! Yet, we were soooo grateful. Why, well as kids we normally wouldn't have been. We'd have probably driven our folks CRAZY with the whining! Late sixties though, the campground was packed with hippies going to or from SF's Haight-Ashbury area. We could see teens and young adults with no shelter, soaked sleeping bags, trying to find ways to huddle together and find scraps that could be used to create makeshift shelters. My sisters and I were very, very grateful we had our tiny, cozy, rainproof trailer!! Lol

I use the Archoil products on my SD and haven’t had any dispensing issues. Just uncap the long neck after squeezing the 40 ounces needed for a fill up but NOT the other cap, it vents itself from the long neck stem. Hope this helps. Safe travels, God Bless, really enjoy you guys! 👌🇺🇸

Wow, I have so many memories from those areas too! I grew up in Templeton, and my grandparents had a ranch in SLO before retiring in Morro Bay. Spent countless days as a kid at Morro Bay Beach by the rock and over at Pismo Beach. It really was heaven on earth back in the 80s! Sadly, now it feels like it's become a playground for the rich. Such a beautiful area, but it’s tough to see how it’s changed.

Well Marc, I know a real man would never kick a fellow man when he is down, but I hope it is okay if I chuckled a little bit? That scene at the truck stop was priceless. Sadly (maybe happily) all of us RVers have been there..... and despite my chuckles(well maybe a bit of all out laughter) I felt for you. S*** er Stuff does happen from time to time that makes us feel just a tad smaller shall we say. However it looks like you two are having a roaring good time. Trish we love your "rv" recipes as well. An amazing meal at our campsite is one of the pure joys of this type of travel. Your videos are just such a great capture of real life RVing. Continued safe travels to you both.....

You are in my town! Morro Bay State Park has a great little hike up Black Mountain right from the campground. You can walk to the marina, rent kayaks, and paddle to the rock right next to the sea otters. No visit would be complete without a tour of the infamous Hearst Castle in San Simeon. Yes, Sensorio is a must-see - it is like nothing you've ever encountered. Clearly you need to come back to SLO area another time!

A friend of mine used to live in San Luis Obisbo. We made many trips to wineries, Morro Bay and a berry farm on a road between San Luis and Morro. Was such fun to pick a variety of fresh berries. We had our kiddos with us and they have fond memories of the many visits to the area. Love a B & B in Cambria that I have stayed at 3 times. Hoping to take my DIL on a camping trip to Cambria soon. A girls only car trip camping experience.

Mountain Valley, a hidden gem on the road trip travel adventure. Noisy from the tows, but when the day is done, it's quiet. This is our regular stop for a night's stay. The fires have a lot to answer for.

I’ve had that griddle for about a year now. It’s held together fine. Watch the cheap screw on the lid hinge. Also I don’t store the drip man in its slot anymore. Lost mine carrying it suitcase style somewhere. Took Blackstone a month to get a new one but they sent it for free. Love the videos.

Marc, Stick with Archoil, I've been using it for years and love it. Always put the additive in before you fill with fuel. Fill the measured part of the bottle and when you tip the bottle up to empty it have the long tube facing out so when it's tipped up it's against the bed of the truck.

Also it looks like that Blackstone doesn’t have as much wind ingress if that makes sense, would you say it is less susceptible to high winds than normal blackstones?

Thank you. Not a lot of activity there recently as we've been out on the roads, which is nice. I editing out a clip of why we like it so much. I could have gone out for a ride here - found a good route, but when we travel, I spend half my time trying to find the right turn and when I get back, it wasn't really that great. The Zwift is a sure thing.

after watching this episode, I had to laugh because while completing crossing ND in a day, I had gone to the Pismo beach episode just a few hours earlier to listen to Josh Garrells and watch the fun on the beach. I think it's one of my favorite episodes not only because of the music, but because of Caleb and Charlie running on the beach. Miss that boy, but glad he's spreading his wings - he's going to be a huge success. Of course, Charlie is just precious and always will be. I'm enjoying him and his sister playing together.

Moro Bay is my decompress/reset place. It’s not too far from Ventura County, and is always calming for me. Always stay in one of the Mom&Pop hotels (no RV yet), and just hang around the Rock. Hope you enjoyed it…

You just loosen the fill cap to fill the arch oil reservoir Then pour it in. The main cap is just used to fill the container at the factory. On my 2nd bottle of Archoil. Good stuff.

Hi Marc, As you know, there’s a science to everything. I use Archoil. I believe we had same issue. When filling measure tube, crack open main cap to break vacuum if filling is difficult. Close main cap before adding to tank. Thanks for sharing all your episodes with us!

I had to look it up. Yup there is a 10-20 fee to use the dump station not included in your camping fee. I’ve been to Tehachapi many times it’s very nice and the windmills just have me in Awh. They are so big and there are so many. I love the farmers stop at the bottom in Bakersfield. Can’t wait till next weeks episode.

Marc....get the Love App and Card (get card inside). Then you tie EFS to Loves account and you can turn on the pump and pay for diesel/DEF all from within the cab of your truck. Just jump out and start pumping. Really nice!!! You can pour your diesel treatment into the diesel nozzel before you put the nozzle in the truck...problem solved.

Marc, you do know that the orange leveling blocks that you use hook together like 'legos' and you can form a "pyramid" 4 inches high if you wanted and the pyramid allows you to drive up "the ramp". You must know, but I thought it worth mentioning. Happy travels!

If you get up past San Fran, check out the Bolinas Ridge trail. Back in the late 80’s a buddy and I did it on mountain bikes. As we were riding along the actual ridge, we came upon several bikes laying off the trail. As we got closer we saw (and smelled) a group of locals doing some serious doobies.

Don't give up on Arch Oil! Pop the seal on the big cap side and reinstall the cap. Then use the smaller side.

That is cause the diesel conditioner goes in THEN the fuel (via a longer THIN funnel) so as to mix AFTER the fillup... The funnel allows the condy bottle to be turned up higher to allow it to properly drain at its proper angle...Happy trails...GB

funny we were coming back from a rv trip to the Sequoias, down the 5, and cal fire was picking up water for the fire on the 5, cars backed up going north for miles. We were going to take the 58 from the 5 to Barstow, but didn't want to chance the wind.

As a truck driver, I go from the midwest to California every other week. In California, I always see the nasty parts of Los Angeles and Oakland. After I would make my deliveries, I would go pick up produce in areas like Salinas. It's nice to see the different side of California or, should I say, the nicer parts. Thank you for opening my eyes to seeing the beauty of California.

As soon as I saw the Chinook with the water hose I knew you would not be going up on the glider. All air traffic stops around fires. I also hope all people know that you should NOT be flying drones around fires. They have enough to worry about with the crazy air currents happening from fires to worry about other aircraft/drones. Sorry you didn't get to go.

Bought that Blackstone as well. I agree, love the form factor but feels a bit cheap. Time will tell. BTW, the legs on the Blackstone are adjustable. Very convenient and easy to level.

don't go back to the hotshots. Archoil is so much better. I always press to fill to line and have the long neck up and pour. Ive in the past put it in first then pump diesel that way the diesel washes it all down. What did A-rod say , first or last. I try to calculate how many gallons I'll need first. You must of had a bad day. LOL. We've all had them. Have fun out there

Mark, the ride in the helicopter could have gone like this: Sure Mark, hop on in. A few hours later Chief comes back. Trish asks where Mark is. Chief said he volunteered to fight the fire!

1st helicopter is a CH-47D Chinook. 472CH (2CH) used to fly for Columbia Helicopters but now it looks like PJ Helicopters is flying it with their paint scheme now. I used to work at Columbia Helicopters and went on a few fires along with that aircraft when I was on a Columbia BV107-II crew. Miss chasing wild land fires in a helicopter. 2nd one is a Siller Helicopters Sikorsky S-64E Skycrane. Probably couldn't fly because of a TFR for fire fighting assets.

Idk if someone said it but that aluminum grill with non stick coating is not supposed to be used with metal utensils. That will effect it's longevity. I love mine.

Just take the cap off the small side. Squeeze the oil from the large side to the small container while upright. When it's filled to the proper level, dump the small container in the tank. Never remove the cap from the larger side. You should only fill the small side half full for your 40gal tank.

Check out the Stanadyne Performance diesel treatment! 8oz bottles with a long neck. One bottle per tank. Has served me well year round for about 800k miles across 4 trucks. I buy it by the case.
