Glad you got one of these for your collection. Personally, this is one of my all time favorites as the Raider ARR was my very first hobby grade RC. When I was a kid, my uncle and I drove around to various hobby shops on Long Island looking for this kit. Finally by the 4th store we found it. I was so excited and as soon as we got home we installed the radio equipment, through on the stickers and charged up the battery. It was the longest 30 minutes of my life.... Then to the schoolyard to run it for the most epic 3-4 minutes of parking lot fun...lol... yup... 3 minutes... Remember back in the day batts didn't have the capacity that they do today. Yours came out great. Looking forward to seeing this on your track.
Thanks so much my friend. It's really on a different level as to the Hornets and such. Obviously still a "beginner" kit...but value for the $$ was absolutely better imo. Wish our local Allied Hobbies carried Kyosho...would have been a big fan! That's a great story as well! Best part of doing the content for me has been the cool stories that pop up in chat. Obviously all of us are bit nostalgic (or we would not be into this madness at all). Enjoy the day and hope talk again soon.
This was my 1st hobby grade RC. Xmas 86-87 purchased mail order out of the Sears catalog. Neither my father nor I knew it was a kit and not rtr. Dad and I put it together by dinner and I was hooked. I still have it and a Kyosh Double Dare monster truck, both could be restored. I'm here because my 9yr son is into RC now. His starter Slash is going brushless. I was curious if ppl bothered to repair or modernize these old platforms. I'd love to give my son one my favorite childhood toys. Thanks for the video
Awesome restoration! Reminded me of when my younger brother got his raider kit back in the day and I was really jealous because it had a differential in the gearbox whereas my Mardave Apache didn’t!!🤘🤘
I restored and updated my friends Kyosho Raider Pro he was given back in 1993 by a friend and had sat in a box ever since. They're great except the steering was a little too narrow for my likings. I've wanted to get one of my own ever since. Looks like a real solid platform to modify
It looks awesome! I love the look of this one and I am sure it will run really well after the full tear down and rebuild! Have fun with it out on the track!!!
Amazing stuff brother 👍🏻🙌🏻 This is what it is all about and where it all started for the OAG! Can’t wait to see what this does on the track and more importantly how you feel about it! That was one tidy chassis you scored there btw 😎🔥
Yea buddy! Way more Kyosho saturation over there in the 80/90s. You were lucky to start off with such a great car. I am worried about the small pinion gear (top speed will stink). Looks like I need some sort of different idler gear to change the ratio (could not find one anywhere). This thing is gonna be a Hornet killer 100%!
Thanks brother...really appreciate it. Car was in good shape so this one was fairly easy to make shine. Lots of folks seem to have had it as their 1st car. Wish my local shop had Kyosho back then.
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC it’s a nice looking car and yours goes great! I’ve put a quick intro to mine on my channel but will run it soon to see how it goes.
I rebuilt a Raider too a while ago. The shocks, lacking oil, are not great at absorbing bumps, but with a thin coating of friction grease on the metal rods (I learned that trick from the Losi Micro T community) these actually get some basic damping action.
Such a great looking buggy, turned out real nice. Cant wait to see it on the track. Im on the hunt for a Outlaw Raider body if you know where to find one please let me know.
I sold a kyosho raider like yours. Practically brand new in the box...i got $500 for it...i paid $350 for. It. All said n done I only made a $20 profit. EBay fees n shipping killed me
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC It was one of my First RC Cars of the Big Boy brands 😊 I didn’t know much about them then , all I know was compared to my Hornit it seemed really slow I went to Hamilys in London & spent my pocket motor on a 20turn motor 😝, it made it about as fast as the Hornit with the 540 motor., I put the 20 turn in the hornit i thought it was a rocket. It would lovely if there’s some option Spur gear or a bigger pinion to Make it a bit more lively . 👍
