Thank you so much for creating this video! It is exactly what I was looking for. I also do not have access to an engineering workshop and so your real life experience in your home garage with your domestic tools is a perfect example for me.
Glad I could help! I noticed afterwards that two of my tracks have a slight curve at one end. For my purposes it doesn't matter, but it's because the transit seat mounts have enough slop in them to allow it. If I had to do it over again I would use the seats to verify my measurements, then install them freehand along the edges of the floor ribs so they lay perfectly straight. Even so, they work great and I want to add 1-up racks behind the bench for mountain bikes this summer.
The part I put the bolts through that the seats click into? Those are the factory Ford Transit seat mounts. Some of the used Transit seats come with them, otherwise they can be found on ebay for $60-70 each.
In part 2, you can see the pieces I use to brace under the vehicle. There is too much in the way to use one long section. I used enough aluminum angle for bracing that I'm confident they would not be the failure point in an accident. The head of the screws that interface with the L-Track is the smallest surface area and thinnest aluminum section. In the worst possible scenario, the track will fail before anything else.
These are from a Ford Transit. Dude said the cargo versions ship to the dealerships with seats, then remove them before they get sold. I haven't bothered confirming, he has rows of them in a pole barn under plastic and they were cheeeeeeeap! These are super basic, I think there are versions that fold down, but likely pricey in comparison.
Hi great video I have same transit seats and looking to fit in my van. I Was going to bolt down the original brackets to the floor, but your way gives more options for movement. Two questions, how did you connect the transit rails to the unwin rails? Plus are they still quick release? Cheers Jason
Here are the threaded hold downs I used: www.amazon.com/L-Track-Threaded-US-Cargo-Control/dp/B07W91NYLB I drilled holes through the OEM trays and bolt them in place so I can still quick release the seat from it's OEM mount. That does leave the mount sticking up off the floor, but is useful if I need to get a seat out of the way to put something large and unplanned inside.
im trying to source a bench like those.. having a difficult time figuring out what exactly theyre called/what to search for. i would prefer a 3 person bench but a 2 person may be acceptable. any advice?
I just looked on local marketplaces for "Ford Transit Seats" and a bunch were available. Let me know a nearby city and I could help you search a bit if you want.
