OK, one more thing to say. Love how you handled the Invisibility Condition this fight. Thats exactly how it works on the tables im playing at now. You know its there but you get disadvantage to hit it. Some DMs will insist you cant hide underwater using Invisibility if one takes the Hide action but I always go with the minimalist approach and just handwave certain things. Its magic. Trying to then explain how physics interacts with it is kind of a moot point IMO because its basically nerdy theology and talk of "angels dancing on the end of a pin and how practical it is. I just look at Invisibility as a flawed "Preditor" clocking device that refracts light around it to make it blend in with the environs. The spell itself is also attuned to the subjects intentions and will try to refine its camouflaging capabilities to match that of the sneakers abilities to remain hidden. None of that is in the book but Jeremy Crawford mentioned the whole "Preditor Cloak" example when explaining why TS and See Invisibility still dont allow you to see the subject clearly enough to not have trouble hitting it - you just see it "better" as a more distinct outline and thus, its obscurement cover is blown and it cant hide from you. Anyhow, kuddos!

Probably late to the party but I think that the shark should not have disadvantage to hit the invisible Marid. Probably interpretable by the DM but my reasoning: An invisible creature is impossible to see without the aid of magic or a 'Special sense'. Blindsight should count for that 'special sense' part. and having a swimming speed gives no disadvantage to it's attacks. Still very cool underwater level and fight. Love the series. Keep it up.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, we hope to keep going for as long as people are interested in watching. The Invisible conditions says, "Attack rolls against the creature have disadvantage, and the creature’s attack rolls have advantage." There are no caveats or conditions, it just imposes disadvantage on incoming hits. If the shark were trying to cast Magic Missile, which requires that it see the target, Blindsight would help with that, but I don't see anything in Blindsight that says it removes the penalty to hit imposed by invisibility. Contrast this with the Blur spell which specifically calls out Blindsight as nullifying the effect. The Invisible condition doesn't do that.

I would have challenged that underwater caster ruling. DnD doesn't really mention a restriction to underwater casting but when it does, it mentions this rule as a suggestion: "While submerged underwater and holding its breath, a creature can cast a spell that requires a verbal component with a casting time of a reaction, bonus action, or action. After casting the spell, If the creature can’t breathe underwater, it immediately runs out of breath. The creature can survive for a number of rounds equal to its Constitution modifier (minimum of 1 round)." Obviously the DM makes the final decision, but RAW and RAI say you can and the game developers intended for casters to be able to cast under water.

What book and page number are you quoting?
@007ohboy
@007ohboy 5 месяцев назад
@d20tactics it's actually a Jeremy Crawford ruling. The books don't see anything about underwater casting. Jeremy when asked said nothing prevents you from casting underwater. But you could make a ruling that casting uses up your breath and then you have rounds = to your constitution modifier before you start to drown. So even that is an optional rule. And as we all know, JC is Jesus of DnD because he has the same initials. :)😅

As many DnD sins as I've committed, and as in need of salvation as I may be in that regard, I still wish Mr. Crawford a long and healthy life and ask him not to die for them.

Really dug this encounter, interesting and difficult. Lots of tricky things going on both as a DM, and for the players but somehow it all worked out. What level are you playing to? Please say 20 if possible ;).

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it. We're playing until the classic unbeatable boss Scheduling kills off the party. I have plans for encounters going up to 20, but we'll see how far we get.

@@d20tactics Yes I've noticed that the Cleric, and Fighter have changed at times (certainly no complaints, their replacements did a fine job) while both the Rogue, and Wizard have remained the same. Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing what comes next. Thanks for creating, and sharing.

Good thing my Mystical Monk cast freedom of movement half an hour ago because now at the start of the turn she can: Action - Dispell Magic on the vortex. I'm not slowed down due to FOM. Long lasting non concentration spells rock and are never wasted. Bonus Action - Bladesong (+2 AC) Rd 2 - Quicken Haste dive in and dash 120 feet while taking the dodge action. Gets slammed with a Water Jet but has advantage on Dex saves with a +5 and....fails. Takes 28 damage but uses Bastion of Law to absorb the damage. Wow! Nice! I rolled a 31 on a 5d8 roll, that means I absorb all the damage and don't have to make a concentration check. Rd 3 Action Dodge move 60 feet Haste Action attack with a longsword as a dedicated Monk weapon using my dex with no disadvantage on my attacks because I'm a cool Monk that has Freedom of Movement. And then follow that up with an underwater headbutt +9 +9 to hit. Genie attacks me with a 28 but....oh right, disadvantage due to dodge so he gets lucky and still rolls high, a 27. And that's a miss, I cast Shield and with Haste and Monk AC, I'm rocking a 28 AC with disadvantage to hit and advantage on dex save attacks. Genie moves away, fighting like a smart coward. Too bad! I keep up with him easy, and then hit him with a Quicken booming blade followed up by a normal long sword attack using hasted action. There's no escape. I'm in that Genies grill. Even if it could leap out of the water and start flying, I'm going to be there slashing it with my sword and punching it in the face.😊 That's me nerding out. My Mystical Monk is really doing well in Tyranny of Dragons so far and racks up a lot of kills despite it being a bastard build optimized around an unoptimized roleplay concept of an Arcane Monk. Great video as always! I learn tactics from you guys like Dodge, that shit comes in clutch😅 Keep making them weep, Sarson, and keep making the baddies cry, gang. Peace, out!

Yeah, Freedom of Movement is really good in situations like this. I'd have to see the whole build to know if you are overspending resources in one fight, but you spent 7 sorcery points out of at most 10, so there's that. Casting Freedom of Movement at the end of every short rest seems a little paranoid, and it wouldn't stop the most dangerous effects of the previous encounter, so I don't know that I buy that one.

I have full casting up to level 6 spells at level 11 where the party is at. I use spells to feed my Sorc Point consumption. That's why when I use Sorc Points, I just look at them as spells. Need to quicken a spell? That will cost 1 first level spell worth of points. Did I run out of first level slots? NP, I burn a 5th level slot and convert those over to 3 1st level slots and add a sorc point to my balance. That's what I love about Sorcerers: they have great resource management. The Mystical Monk at 11th level would be 1 Monk/8 Clockwork Sorcerer (only 8 Sorc points) and 3 bladesinger (never made it to 11 but I know the build up to lv 20). I might not even have that 6th level slot but in my example I haven't used it. My effective caster level is 11 but I only know up to 4th level spells. The higher level slots I use for upcasted buffs or to cannibalize to create more sorc points to fuel quicken and Subtle casting. I basically took a Sorc and made a gish out of it. It's weird and I love it

@@d20tacticsAh yes, just confirmed. 11th level does get 6th level slot. I usually save it for some big 6th level subtle counterspell - like if the BBEG casts chain lightning on us. I could cancel that without reprisal.
@007ohboy
@007ohboy 5 месяцев назад
@@d20tacticsOops, OK. I would only be 10th level caster. But still, it changes nothing because the only difference is I'm missing the 6th level slot. Most important thing is I have Bladesong at that level. Yum!

Quickening a Spell doesn't cost one First Level Spell worth of points, it costs a Second Level Spell worth of points. You get the spell's level worth of points when you convert from spell to points. Burning a Fifth Level Spell gets you two First Level Spells and an extra point.
