I have had several La Cabra coffees in the last month. Not a huge sample size to draw solid conclusions but I found various profiles: (1) Very developed - Chelbesa Washed and Chelbesa Natural (2) Medium developed - Costa Rica Don Joel SL28 (3) Lightly roasted - "premium" offering with CGLE Cerro Azul Gesha Washed and CGLE Cerro Azul Gesha Natural. While I struggled with the Chelbesas, I found the CGLE Geshas pretty good!
Might be a bit more beneficial then if they identified the coffees accordingly. This isn't simply speaking as a person with a preference towards lighter roasted coffees, but also for those that are on the other side of the spectrum. Appreciate the feedback!
@@CoffeeReviews Yeah, agreed. To be transparent, I only had one brew of each coffee at various coffee shops. So not very reliable to draw conclusions. But I'll definitely be willing to try their more premium offerings to verify if they are indeed on the lighter side.
Great review on this. Do you happen to have any experience with Wilton Benitez's coffees? I've seen you review many from Diego, Pepe & other producers knows for advanced fermentation. From my understanding Wilton has worked with Diego in the past when they pioneered their fermentation techniques. I have had Wilton's Tabi VIP & Orange Bourbon from JBC & currently have his Pink Bourbon from Rogue Wave. The pink Bourbon is the most wild of the bunch, though I'd say all have been quite enjoyable & interesting.
Yes actually, we received several samples (most notably one that was supposed to go in a viewer/subscriber submitted blind taste test video, but we didn't get all the samples in time) and they are out there. Found pretty mixed results with the handful we've had. They have definitely been out there to say the least 😅 It's not out of the realm of possibility that we'd review one in the future, we're just waiting on a roaster we really trust to release one, perhaps
Hi Julian! Given you are also a fan of light roasts/bright acidity/exotic flavors, what decaf coffees (or roasters who might carry them) would you absolutely put at the top of your list? TL;DR: battling insomnia and I'm looking for interesting + balanced recommendations (besides the huila-that-tastes-of-toffee that everyone seems to offer).
Hey Joshua, sorry to hear about your insomnia, dealt with that a lot in college so it can definitely be quite frustrating. Unfortunately, I know little to nothing about decaf coffees as the last one I had in 12+ years was the one from Manhattan we tried in the probat/typhoon blind taste test video. The only one we've had positive feedback on is the Flower Drinker (which is, of course, a Huila) from Blind Tiger Coffee. Seems like decaf is still very far away from starting to catch-up to the rest of the coffee world
Hi, they are from Arhus not Copenhagen. And I am happy to hear that I am not the only one feeling that La Cabra makes medium roasts with ashy/smoky scents. They also recommend to rest their coffees at least a month. I guess so the ashy taste gets a bit away. But so also the florals. I am very disappointed because it was not always like this. I think they do this to cut costs and make omni roasts
Was looking at the box before recording and saying, "should we say Aarhus or Copenhagen?" because our previous videos said Aarhus but the boxes now say "roasted in Copenhagen." The omni-roast thing makes sense but there are plenty of places that omni-roast that can do it on a way that might not feel so developed. Their personal preference I suppose....
while founded in Århus, they moved their roastry and "headquarters" to Copenhagen Drop in Stockholm do omni roast and does lighter (I assume… I haven't had much of La Cabra but been thinking of trying more but have seen people think they have gotten darker, which is interesting since they say they always strive for brightness
