Stephen Kinnock, the Labour MP for Aberavon in Port Talbot, has told Sky News it is "deeply, deeply disappointing" and "devastating" if Tata Steel closes blast furnaces at the steelworks.
Sky News understands more than 3,000 jobs are at risk at the country's biggest steelworks in South Wales - with an announcement on the workforce expected shortly.

India’s steel capacity is 160 million tons, with plans to 300 million tons by 2026. UK is 7 million tons with zero by tomorrow. Amazing Net Zero strategy and self inflicted Russian sanctions.

If what that guy said is true, it sounds like a case of closing the UK furnace to make the UK appear greener on paper, whilst importing the necessary product from India where they will make it even less green-ly. Just shifting the emissions to another country, as well as letting India benefit from the jobs involved.

This is the result of having to go ‘green’. Thousands more up and down the country will lose their jobs as companies have to comply with emmission levels. Going green sounds good, but a lot of people do not realise what the consequences can be on peoples lives. Trying to delay the inevitable till after 2030 by keeping one of the blast furnaces going is just prolonging the agony for those who will lose their jobs. The new electric arc furnace uses electric to power it and less manpower to run it. Going green isn’t so good after all.
@antwnpowell

No, it’s because of Brexit and loosing tariff protection.
@adriandarke5393

Don't worry, thousands of jobs will be created in agriculture as farms are forced to move away from beef and sheep farming in the journey to net zero....the government wants us all eating plants, so people will be needed to plant and pick them in the fields!. Net zero I think those in charge are trying to run us into the ground before we make it to net zero.
@antwnpowell

This is down to Brexit. Neath Port Talbot voted 59% in favour of leaving the protection of the EU , so as they “knew what they were voting for”, they should be ecstatic. TATA owned JLR will be next, followed by Toyota, BMW, Stellantis, Nissan, as their imported steel (mostly from the EU) will be more expensive and their cars will be even less “British”, so higher tariffs.

Seem to remember them getting a massive amount of UK Money £500 Million if my memory is correct. To protect jobs in Port Talbot in September 2023. Does this mean we are going to get a refund of Millions now off TATA. Actual report. UK government has agreed a £500m support package for Tata Steel to secure the future of the Port Talbot steelworks, in a deal unions said will have “devastating consequences”, with as many as 3,000 workers expected to lose their jobs.
@beezergutler5488

Tata Steel had no choice to move to a electric arm furnace as ALL steel plants world wide. The UK must engage with FUNDING commensurate to newer technology and lower emissions. UK Steel is a strategic business and we need Steel.
