Beautiful, and great instructions! When i first made mittered squares, i got confused with the placement of the squares, so i figured out i could connect them by picking up stitches on the left side of the each square, casting up stitches for the bottom of the new square, and knitting away. Then, continue making squares to the desired size of the blanket. I then start the second row making the first square of that row by casting on half of the stitches and picking up stitches on the top edge of the 1st square of my first row. Then you do the second square picking up stitches on the left side of the 1st square of that row and the top of the second square of the 1st row. And repeat that process to complete each row.
I really love the stained glass look and did my first pyramid. In building the “Main” section or third row how do I keep going upwards? I’m having trouble for instance adding more to the left side which would leave space for a half. I think if I make an end first it will help me build/fill in the body…same for the right side. Thanks for your time and videos. 👏
HI If I wanted to make more of the black (eg 4 rows), so I need to do the triple decrease in it? I've seen it wider and I really do prefer it. Can you help, please?
Yes, if you're doing more rows in the contrast color before doing the main color, you should be doing the decreases in any additional contrast color rows. I hope that helps!
I love this blanket and would love to make one. I stuggle how to add square 4 and 5 to the blanket. I just cant figure out how to do that. Hope you can help me.
Sure! It's a little bit easier for me to do with pictures, so if this doesn't help, try sending me a message on ravelry, but here goes! Square 1 is a base square, and square 2 is another base square. Then, you put those two squares next to each other and knit square 3 off of them, which is a body square. With me so far? Well, from there, it's just a matter of making your blanket wider. So if you knit another base square (square 4) and put it on either side of the three you already have, you can then make another body square (square 5) between it and the old squares, and then you can knit a third body square (square 6) out of squares 3 and 5. Let me know if that helps. Seriously, I would draw it out if you're lost. Let me know!
@@ladybuglily since english is not my native language, i would love to get it in pictures or drawings. What is your adress in ravelry? Thank you soooooo much for helping me 🌹
Absolutely! I'm using fingering-weight socks yarn for all of my squares. You could do this using any weight yarn and any size needles, you'd just have to adjust the numbers. So, worsted weight yarn and needles would get you much larger squares, but you could make the squares, say, 29 stitches instead of 49, and make them smaller. Does that help at all?
Ladybug Laboratory I'm at the point that I am needing the end squares and the boarder. Is there any way you can post the last 2 videos. The blanket is turning out great.
I'm planning to post them in December. You must have knit quickly if you're already there, haha! I haven't recorded them yet, so I can't even send them to you, I'm sorry! I'll be sure to let you know as soon as they're ready!
Ladybug Laboratory its funny you said that I knit fast. Actually I had already started knitting the base row based on someone else's video but I liked your videos better so I switched it up. You are very good at explaining what to do and making it really easy. Thanks for your help.
I'm still not quite sure I understand, since I don't know what each of your pieces look like, bit I'll do my best. I think you need to use a joining square to join the edge base squares of your two pieces. Check out the PDF and Google doc on the ravelry page - they have visuals to help, and let me know if that answers your question.
@@sarahcollett6297 just turn it sideways - they become squares. If you don't want them on their sides like that, then use a normal mitered square blanket pattern and just do the first garter ridge in black
Very nice blanket. Good tutorial except for one thing: I wish you would get your terminology correct. Since you are decreasing by 2 stitches, it is a DOUBLE decrease, NOT a triple. The proper name for that stitch is the "central double decrease." It is called such because all stitches lean toward the center (central) and you decrease by 2 stitches (double decrease).
You're absolutely right! I don't know what's wrong with me - I call it that in real life! Hah! Whoops! I'll have to correct it. I'm glad you like it, though!
There's that, and the picking up vs. picking up and knitting. The way you originally understood the term was correct. If you pull yarn thru for a new stitch, that is picking up and knitting. If the yarn you mount on the working needle is from the body of the worked object, that is picking up. Trust yourself, you know what you're doing. I'm doing Knit Picks Hue Shift Afghan for my nephew, and don't like the center ridge in garter, but it's too late now. I wanted to confirm I could do one with a clean center ridge and found this series. Another thing I like that you do is starting the CDD right away. I had doubts about the slipping 1st stitches, but your pick-ups look neater than mine. Of course, I'm changing color with every ridge for 90% of the project.
