Great for charter or coastal sailing. Offshore you definitely want to have the ability to reef also downwind when things get rougher

I myself use the Profurl boom furling system on a 35 feet monohull, since 8 years now. Once you've tested it, you want nothing else, especially when the wind increases. You can even furl the main sail even downwind with the correct angle, "facing the downwind". Just been surprised that an important device is missing, the boom vang! I don't have a boom line, since the boom vang supports the boom and the main sail as well.

I would assume with the addition of a UV strip, you can eliminate the need for sale bag in most cases?

This is correct, however, it is prudent to use a simple boom cover for storage during long periods.

Nice! What about this Furling Boom System for new 43 model?

Great video.Thanks! I have always loved furling booms, but there are a LOT of detractors out there so I'm a bit nervious. How does this system avoid the concern of having the boom at the perfect angle to the mast so that the leading edge the sail dose not start rolling backward or forward (Like a carpet rolling at an angle) binding the sail?

Very good question. The topping lift on this set up is actually a steel wire at a set length (to avoid stretching you’d get on a traditional topping lift). In order to set the boom heigh for furling, there is a stopper at the top of the wire so it’s just a case of pulling the topping lift line until it hits the stopper. Doing this, and applying the other 3 important points - head to wind - tension on luff - loose main sheet The sail furls into boom in a neat manner. Kind regards, Joe

@@TMGYachts You know, that just sounds so simple and logical. Why hasn't anyone else done that? Is there any disadvantage?
@licencetoswill
@licencetoswill 10 месяцев назад
@@navalgazingatcampdavid none that I can see, boom furling is common feature on super yachts and once you get used to the methodology they are simple and brilliant. Mast furling is simple too, but more complex than this, and you dont get a good sail shape with the vertical battens.

My concerns would be reduced sail area and gap between mast and luff. Also the lost area by having boom more than six feet above standing deck.
@TMGYachts
@TMGYachts 6 месяцев назад
We understand that this system might not suit all sailors however the standard set up still features the squaretop mainsail and the luff mounted directly to the mast. As for the height of the boom, the furling boom is the perfect answer to this.

Where can you get this for a Lagoon 45 or 500?

Is the e-watch necessary or just a gimmick ?

14:27 Would you please comment on how this system may decrease the need to head directly into the wind +- 2 degrees whilst hoisting the main? Thank you. This looks amazing!
@FamilyManMoving

Bruno/Lagoon said that heading to wind is a non-negotiable requirement. That is required to ensure the sheet lays correct on the boom.
@TMGYachts
@TMGYachts 6 месяцев назад
Correct, yes the boat must be head to wind. Thank you.

Will this furling boom be available on the 55 anytime soon?
@TMGYachts
@TMGYachts 6 месяцев назад
At this stage there are no plans to offer this on the 55 unfortunately.

@16:16 Would two Harken Rewind, self tailing winches work for single up and down buttons? One going out and the other coming in for "up" and that reverses for "down"? I'm calling my patent attorney, don't even think of it Lagoon... ;)
@geoffstrebel2808
@geoffstrebel2808 9 месяцев назад
Or a flatwinder for the main halyard for that matter.
@TMGYachts
@TMGYachts 6 месяцев назад
This is a great idea, however, the two winches would be easing/pulling at a different speed due to the design of the system. So unfortunately it wouldn't work. The best system for this is to use two winches as demonstrated in the video.

Ant battens in the sail?
@TMGYachts
@TMGYachts 6 месяцев назад
Yes the sail is fully battened with horizontal battens to give the sail high roach.

what a monstrosity of a system... the other furling systems are much better/tidy... the amount of weight that Lagoon is pushing up high is very worrying for a catamaran... they are going to have to keep weight in the hulls to balance this which ultimately means its a motor sailer !!
@TMGYachts
@TMGYachts 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for your comment! This new system is indeed different from current aftermarket options on the market. While there is a little more weight than a conventional slab reefing system, there is far less weight on this set up than one with a cowling or solid cover hiding the sail. The weight of this specific set up is some what negligible compared the the obvious advantages of offering this system. It is, of course, an option and the standard slab reefing boom can still be equipped on the Lagoon 46 & 51 should some prefer. Having used this system, I'd say the naked design, although not as concealed as some other furling booms on the market, is perfectly suited to this vessel and its operation and makes it all super easy to use. Thanks for your comment, and again, thanks for watching. Joe

In addition to what Joe said, I'd suggest most cruising cats won't have the problem of under-weight hulls. Especially if someone like my wife is packing it.
