This is just so sad for me. We stayed there several times in the mid-90’s and now everything is gone - the little store with bait and popcorn, the fish begging for food, the dock and tons of house boats - it’s all gone! I could cry. I’m glad you are getting some fish. We stayed out there for hours in 1997 and caught nothing! It’s probably easier now to get fish for sure.

It's so cool that you guys can just Roll down to the lake and catch food for the next day. I've been to lake mead quite a few times but never really catch anything when I rent a boat. I've only randomly caught a catfish on a worm. But I have learned a lot from you guys about looking for boils and things like that.

We used to love going to Overton and Echo back in the 80's and 90's. Lots of sandy beaches in the back of the Virgin River arm to camp at and the fishing was always great. Like you said, there are different species that prefer different parts of the lake, we used to catch mainly catfish, striper, largemouths, and crappie. There weren't really any small mouths back then. We also used to occasionally catch these green softshell turtles on anchovies near the Virgin River inlet. They're ugly and mean as hell when you get them in the boat lol! Good times!

I grew up calling them 'white perch'. And then as a teenager we started fishing in the newly constructed Pearl River /Barnett reservoir near Jackson, MS, and everybody started saying, Hey, the crappie are really biting. And it was pronounced "croppy", and maybe the way you said it, crap-ee. I still think of them as white perch. Love your channel, and your family. Oh yeah, those really big ones? We call them slabs. Great eating!

No matter what you call it, it's the best fish to eat. They are also fun to catch. You can also freeze them by putting the fillet into gallon ziplock freezer bags. They are good for about a year. I sometimes use House Autry seafood breader, pour it into a paper bag, then throw in the fillet and shake the bag. Then we deep fry the fillets. Add some slaw to the plate with some Tartar sauce and a little Cayenne pepper. I am hungry already. Great video. By the way I have the Minkota Ulterra trolling motor and I love it. I still use the foot pedal mostly but I keep the remote close by.

Thank y'all for your great footage. I grew up on Lake Mead. 1980 on. Happy to see the level rising. Only once in 1983 the water overflowed the dam and they opened the spillways. The Overton Arm is where the Virgin River and the Muddy River flow into the lake, but the muddy river used to be clear and the virgin river was muddy.😅 True story.

That area where you're questioning the rock layering angles, it's hard to say without seeing a little closer the rock types involved. but it looks to me like large scale landslides took place a long time ago, that rotated those denser looking rock strata to high angles, and more recent sedimentation has created the more horizontal looking layers in between the "chunks" or blocks of landslide debri. All these rocks look to be sandstones or mudstones, so they all formed under water, likely back when this part of the continent was covered by a shallow sea, landslides on continental margins are common and can happen at large scales. Remember the cliff faces you are seeing are a 2d slice through a more complicated 3d structure, so it can look confusing without spending a lot of time mapping it out and collecting qualitative data on rock types, rock ages, contained fossils, bed angles and the like. Interesting area for sure, Thanks for sharing it!

I live in Oklahoma next to Canton Lake, my parents started a business at Canton 1968 before your Senior Dad was born. Our lake supplies water to Oklahoma City when Oklahoma goes into it’s 4 yr drought or longer and they drop the lake to where it’s sometimes only light bass boats can run on. Our lake sets on the flat plains in North West Oklahoma and at normal lake level the deepest part is 28 ft but yet the lake goes 19 miles from the spillway to the mouth of the N Canadian River. Okla has the most man made lakes in the United States. Looks like your lake is on the rise, the last time I was at Lake Mead it was running over the flood gates in 1999. Have a great weekend.

Couple of items I added to my spice rack when frying up some catch... 1. Garlic and Ginger Paste. 2. Everything Topping (its the same stuff they put on 'Everything Bagels') I put this on veggies and salads too. Goes great on Fried Bread. On occasion, I dribble some Franks Red Hot Sauce for a Buffalo (fill in the fish). Good to see you showing what lures you're using for what fish you're after. Suggestion: If the northern parts of Mead have small sections of water(Ponds) it might be worth exploring to see if they hold any holdover monsters in them.
