In the early 70's my father who worked for the US postal service had a chance to transfer to Needles Cal. for an administration job. So we loaded up the car along with my two younger brothers, and mother and drove out there from central Ohio. We arrived at 9am in August and it was already over 100 degrees. My father went in and in ten minutes he cam e out and said they offered him the job. My mother said hey, we have to talk about this. My brothers, and mother only took 5 minutes to convince my father that we did not want to move here with no green grass, and trees. He listened and we turned around and headed back to beautiful central Ohio. We always would talk about that trip. You know, it was sort of pretty out there, but we were always outside, hunting, fishing, and playing sports in the summer in ohio. Cant do that out there. Love your videos Russ, but I just had to forward this to ya.

In other words, needles is a great place to visit, but you wouldn’t want to live there. Too much of a climate change all at once.. A coworker of mine went to Phoenix to visit his mother on vacation. I asked him how hot it was. He told me, go home tonight and turn the oven on broil, and let it warm up. Once it is preheated all the way, stick your face down near the door and open the oven door. that’s what it’s like to open your door at home and try to walk outside during the day in Phoenix in the summer. if you were not born there in that climate, it can be hard to take. It is not as oppressive as Florida with all that humidity during the summer months, but it’s close..

I was on the lake fishing and skiing Monday and Tuesday. Played golf today but back on lake tomorrow. Very special right now. The US open bass fishing tournament commences Monday. Many of the invites are already here practicing. I'm not one of them. Ill look for your van and honk if I see you. Check it out. Been coming here since 72.

You mentioned Kingman. That is where my kids lived. Quaint little town! We also went to Lake Havasu and rented jet skis there and saw the London Bridge. So beautiful in Arizona. Keep the videos going. I love to watch them.

I love the water taxi at Laughlin, especially at night. We stopped there in August and most casinos and restaurants were closed except on weekends. Hardly anyone there. We also experienced the freeway- parking lot in Southern California 😂. Drive safe, Russ.

I have come to appreciate these videos a lot lately, the editing and the narrative combined with his relaxed voice make watching very enjoyable. Not sure if I'm "just not getting it" or "missing something", but he refers to highway 64, yet from what I can see it's highway 68. I've been on that highway heading from Bullhead to Prescott... Anyone else agree? or please correct me...

Ah, the episode starts off so nicely...blue skies and rugged desert scenery. And then suddenly we're in LA on the 405...ugh! 😜 I've driven between the Bay Area and LA/San Diego more times than I can count -- driving in the LA basin is just the worst! And then back to the peace and quiet of Lake Mohave, talk about a contrast! See ya next time...happy trails!

I live in the San Fernando of of L.A. When I leave my house, it is never a pleasure going South. Not even to San Diego. Anything South means I have to go through downtown Los Angeles, and Santa Ana and deal with slow traffic. There are times when I try to time it right only to learn there was a wrong way driver, an over turned semi, or some other jam. A couple times after an hour on the road and realize I'm still in Los Angeles, I just turn around and go home. Going West towards Ventura and Santa Barbara is also pretty good. But northbound and East towards the deserts is always fun. I am a desert person. That is why Eastern USA is boring. The "jungle" comes up to the highway and you cant see anything. Like a horse with blinders.

Russ, definitely check out Cottonwood Cove. When I boated lake Mojave, Cottonwood Cove was always my destination whether coming from Katherine's Landing or down from Willow Beach. The restaurant had the best onion rings I have ever eaten. Nice marina too.

Loved your latest RU-vid video, Russ. From 1996-2008 I visited Las Vegas over 40 times. I always rented a car and made trips out in the desert in several directions. I made many trips from Vegas to Laughlin and your footage during your drive, especially through Searchlight (the home of the late Senator Harry Reid), brought back lots of memories. Thanks, sir. Next time take the dirt road called Christmas Tree Pass going East off of 93, At the far end you will find Hieroglyphics on the huge stones, It's will marked and easy to find.

Very cool to see after 20+ years, as a kid growing up in the 90s we would camp in cottonwood cove and I scorpion hunted frequently in the desert amongst other things. Good time to be a kid. Thanks for the video

WOW! My mom retired and lives in BHC now for a few years. When I visit her I head down to Lake Mohave, it's a nice lake. As you drove to Davis Dam I noticed all the parking and sidewalk, wow! That is all new. I'll have to head over there soon when I visit her - but not yet, it's still too hot, lol. Thank you for the wonderful videos you do, I'm a new subscriber.

The breakfast in the Searchlight Casino is the best deal around and really good food. It's our pit stop after driving from San Diego to Cottonwood through the night, then start the day on the water.

The 405 was a lot better back in the 70's. My dad died in 74, I was in highschool got my driver's license early because of his death. I woke up early to drive my mom to Hollywood from Granada Hills in the San Fernando Valley, drive back go to school then drive back after school then come back home and do homework. I did that for a year. Everyone was complaining back then that the 405 was crowded, it was but everyone was at least driving the speed limit. Today No Way. Just thought I'd pass this on.
