Likewise, thank you for sharing your expertise with these V10s so that even those of us without local access to your services can keep these cars healthy and on the road!
good evening, today I removed and reinstalled the catalysts, put the Larini . for information there was one out of order at 42,000 kilometers. thank you again for your great video
At the time they were $2400 for the pair. That hurt, but not as much as factory cats, nor as much as an engine rebuild and they included a clear conscience (with respect to the environment) for free.
Hey Richard, I asked my mechanic friend about your power surge...here is his response..."Voltage sweep on the throttle bodies with a lab scope..Throttle Position Sensor is out of position"
Thanks Craig! The TBs are somewhere next on the list to validate proper function. I know the early one's are prone to going on the blink because they're contact sensors vs. hall effect.
Really appreciate the video man! Just about to install the same cats on mine. Wanted some input on how others did it. Was originally going to pull the whole rear section off. Any noticeable change in running, sound, or driving? Or just peace of mine you wont grenade your 50k engine haha!
Slightly louder than stock when tailpipe valves open, in theory should net some small HP gain over stock cats, but nothing huge. Mainly peace of mind, without the smell/other issues related to running with no cats.
@@phokus401 I've heard good things. My goal is to get the rest of the minor stuff with my car addressed, get it on a track or two to get the whole experience with the AWD intact, then it's something I might consider. Money-no-object I'd always considered that a manual 550-2 would probably be my perfect version, and I anticipate removing the weight and extra driveline friction would probably make the car nicer on the street without really sacrificing much at the limit considering I'm not lining up any ice races or dirt rallies at this point.
@@LapoftheWorld Nice i have an 04 Yellow Gallardo with a manual transmission. I'm also looking at going RWD and swapping the original cats for the Kline Inconel exhaust and race cats.
Thanks for very nice video! How to fit the misfire tubes? I've heard that the connecting holes in the Larini cats are deeper than original cats. Will replace the tubes with stainless brake tubes, but need to know which nipples to use.
I didn't do anything different or special when re-installing the misfire tubes on the Larini Cats. The connectors mated right up and I didn't modify the length at all. The overall body of the Larini cats is smaller than the OEs by some Margin so the longer connecting pipes just take up that difference so the tube sits in the same place in the exhaust air stream.
👍I feel like I can afford a sigh of relief at this point, and start driving the car more now that what is apparently a key point of failure has been removed.
I do not think you can quite do the entire job from the top, and if you have the rear elevated anyway it makes the most sense to remove the wheels since that will make accessing everything way easier.
@@modena360xavier It likely depends on how the car has been used. I've read a couple of accounts of cats beginning to fail on ~30k mile cars, but I don't think there is a broadly agreed-upon "safe" mileage
thanks again . yes it is sure it is random!! . at 50,000 kilometers, I will change mine. one last question, on the video at 14 minutes 39 seconds, you disconnected a probe, on my Gallardo this pin and disconnected origin ???
Great video! I really appreciate you work! I am trying to change my cats too, I heard the Larini cats are shorter than stock cats and I have to loosen the exhaust pipes and pull the back toward the Larini cats in order to make up for the gaps between the cats and the exhaust pipes. Did you have to do it in your car? Thanks for your help!!!
I've heard the same thing from a reliable source. I didn't address that in the video since my tailpipe/muffler setup is a retrofit from an '08 with some custom upper mounts (so I just assumed some fiddling would be necessary at the time) I think the best approach is to leave everything loose until you get the cat flanges clamped, then tighten stuff after.
Hi, Thank you so much for your comments on Larini Cats! I just installed the Larini Cats on my Gallardo spyder 2007. Now I am getting a fault code P1426 and P047F on my ODB. Would you by any chance know what is causing it? I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer.
question brother, is it true that the larini cats are a 1/4 in short of perfect fit for a pre LP Gallardo? getting ready to purchase, a few are saying larini are short and go with Tubi cats that git perfectly?? thanks for the video and time Richard! Craig
Full disclosure I didn't do any precise measurement when I had mine off. I did have to shift the tailpipe a little to get the clamps on but at the time I assumed that was probably due to potential slip in the custom brackets I fabricated myself to retrofit the '08 muffler box. With that said I've now had a few very mechanically competent people reach out asking similar questions about the Larini units after some installation struggles. I don't have any skin in the game (not sponsored etc) and Tubi is also a reputable company. At the time the Larinis were less expensive and more available, but I don't think I'd hesitate to use a Tubi product if I thought it would fit better.
@@ridethebull4484 that was a long winded "I cannot experimentally confirm as fact, but anecdotally seems to be the case". If I ever have them off again for some reason I am 100% measuring them.
@@LapoftheWorld thank you so much for the info, I am waiting for Jason Burtman to call me back on the Tubi cats he said he has in stock. He also said tubi fit exact, larinis were short, so wanted to reach out on your fitment issues. Thanks boss, happy motoring!!
It's complicated 😁. When I bought the car it was straight piped headers-back but stock cats came with the sale. Car was too loud for my purposes (autocross and some tracks have DB limits) so I put the stock cats back on and a muffler before realizing my mistake with the cats and going back to this. Long way of saying I don't know but I did have a compression test done as part of the PPI and everything was factory spec then at 65,000 miles
@@LapoftheWorld that gives me confidence. I’m in the market here in the UK. Two cars I’m keen on as they’re both manual. One at 40k miles (possibly still factory cats) one at 49k miles and decatted. So hoping they’re low enough mileage to either be saved or have been saved already with the decats. Couldn’t remember if the cats were in the headers or not but you’re video cleared that up. Thank you 👌🏻
@@samtalkscars1341 one thing you could request that would really tell the tale is in a PPI have the mechanic pull just one or two plugs and stick a bore scope in the cylinders to look for wall scoring. That or really a leak down test should be able to give you a good red-light/green-light on engine health. Best of luck with your search!
@@LapoftheWorld I bought it! Manual black car. 39k miles. Cat bypass pipes fitted at 25k miles with a new clutch. Feels ridiculously special. Thanks for the helpful video which showed me where I needed to look to check. 👌🏻
@@samtalkscars1341 Awesome! Grats on the purchase, and best wishes for many miles to come. Gas prices suck right now but remember it's more about the "smiles per gallon" to abuse another RU-vidr's tagline.😁👍
