Wanted to provide an update regarding my Laminectomy Recovery. Its Week Two post op and I feel great!
I have seen gradual improvement in mobility and pain management, offering relief from the initial discomfort experienced post-operation.
I find myself dealing with more manageable pain levels and greater independence in daily activities.
I have been able to get out and do some walking as my body adjusts to the surgical intervention, granting increased mobility and confidence in movement.
The first post-operative follow-up appointment is coming up. I eagerly await this opportunity to discuss my progress with my medical team.

What!? 😱 I was told no BLT (Bend, Lift, Twist) for at least 6 weeks after my laminectomy! Man be careful, you don’t want to undo all the surgeons work! Take your time, there’s no rush and hopefully you have years to enjoy your life ❤

@@barbsdee3831 since I lead a very active lifestyle and I'm in very good shape for my age, I didn't have very many restrictions including BLT. It's coming up on four months post op and things are great! Thanks for watching and commenting ☺️

I'm 4 weeks post-op with L5-S1 lamanectomy, foraminotomy and facetectomy along with placing hardware for stabilization. 3 days in the hospital. I have to wear a back brace for 4 months. The worse part about the surgery was when the nurse removed the catheter. 😅 The only thing I'm aloud to do is walk.
@mikebaltierra

sheesh that sounds like a pretty intense procedure. What is your expected recovery time after the 4 month back brace period?
@jefferymitchell507

8 to 12 months from what I understand. I have my 2nd post-op appointment on May 22nd with the APRN. I won't see my surgeon until August and he will do x-rays to see how well everything is doing.

Good to see you’re doing good. I also had open laminectomy. L2 - L5 due to severe stenosis. ( May 1st 2024) Numbing feet and legs, and pain! My Surgeon only recommended to walk as tolerated for exercise until 6 week follow up appointment. Just wondering, were you told you can bend ? I’m terrified to even try. I’m like you with the walking. Doing good there. ( I’m 56 year old man)

thanks for watching and thanks for the comments. I was stiff and sore for about 2-4 days post op. I wasn't able to put on my shoes or socks on my own for about 3-4 days post op. When it came to bending, it was about day 5 that I was able to feel comfortable enough to try and touch my toes. I was also apprehensive about it but the more I did it the better the range of motion was. My surgeon told me to take it easy and do what I normally do on a day to day basis but don't push it, risking injury. Plus. it helped that I am pretty decent shape for someone who's 54 so my recovery was pretty uneventful and went pretty quickly

I’m going to be doing a lot of walking it seems. That’s probably good, because I could stand to lose some weight.👍

I did some walking post op. Then I was able to get on my indoor bike trainer for a few weeks and my doctor let me start riding my bike outside about 5 weeks post op

My surgery will be in June. I've had other surgeries but this one I am pretty nervous about. Not so much the pain after but potential complications during surgery. Post op I tend to push and I have a date of Labor day to be run, move & turn and football season starts and I need to be on the field. I'm one of the folks in stripes. In your opinion do you think that could be possible if it was you? I should be about 8-9 weeks post op by then. Thanks for info.

I am not one to tell you what to do except listen to your body and what your physician has to say in regards to your physical activity while recovering. With that said, I am at eight weeks post op and my surgeon just cleared me to do whatever I want. I have been bike riding outside the last three weeks and now I can go back to Brazilian jiu jitsu 🙂

Hello. Do you experience any pain in your glute. I just had l5 microdiscectomy 2 weeks ago. I can push my thumb into my back pocket area and its sore to the touch. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. I had some pain in my right glute, like someone had punched me and it felt sore / bruised in that area - but it went away after a few days.

@@mikebaltierra Thank you. From my research im being advised that it is probably residual L5 nerve inflammation. I hope so. The unknown is the most concerning. Thanks again for your time and i truly do wish you the best full recovery ever.

@@CoryMartz i do still experience some numb / tingling sensations in my legs but my surgeon mentioned than I'll be experiencing that for 6-12 months while the nerves repair themselves. Other than that, I'm doing great! I have been just as active, maybe more, since having the procedure. And not dealing with shooting pain is a game changer
