Janice Joplin is a legendary singer from the sixties. Part of the 27 club. Leonard Cohen(legendary songwriter and poet from Canada) wrote this about that one night with Janice.
her rendition is so haunting and stunning. This is the song that broke me back in 2014 and makes me tear up without fail every time. AND LANA LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL IN THE VIDEOOOO. Don't know how it didn't hit for you.
Maybe if you have no clue who Janis is, it hits differently? For me, yes it is Lana’s beautiful voice, but the fact that I know the backstory and that she is covering it with so much emotion - it makes it more meaningfull and I’m not even that big off a Janis fan, I am just enough old to know about the legends of the 60’s and 70’s
Leonard cohen is an incredible writer and he's a super simple vocalist so I think singing any of his songs in a "doing more with your voice" way is like unnatural for his songs if that makes sense
