In this video I talk way too much. And somewhere in between there I show how to remove the throttle body, throttle and shift down cables, and also start removing the upper intake manifold. I stop right before pulling the upper intake manifold to look at schematics to ensure I don't mess anything up.
I'll be back in the next video with the final removal of the upper intake manifold and further disassembly of the top end of the 1FZFE motor.
Next video will be the actual lift-off of the upper manifold and then moving onto the the valve cover first and heater core valve/lines. Or maybe the water pump, oil pump, and front main seal. Anyone have a preference of which I do next?
I hope you enjoy this video series. Make sure to like and subscribe for more content like this. And as always, love y'all !! See you next time !

@@NKPGarage I think i may just takr the long route and take off the intake manifold and throttle body to get to it instead of through the left wheel well. I'm sure those need servicing especially the egr anyways.

@@Malkav having the intake manifold off definitely helps with more access. And in most cases the valve cover gasket has to be done too. Might as well do that while it's all apart that's what I will be doing.

I'm replacing all my big and little coolant hoses in mine right now. This is my first time working on a car besides helping a buddy replace a radiator which took like 40 minutes. Had no idea how much of a hassle this was gonna be and im watching this to decide if it is easier to take this off or just squeeze my hands in under it to reach the hoses. Still undecided at the moment

I still dont quite get how you got to remove the bolt by going from underneath. is the bolt facing the ground or the hood?

The bolts and nuts for the upper intake manifold are all facing down towards the ground.

Hey brother. Good content helping me work on my 95. Question. I pulled of the throttle bottle to clean it up a little and notice at the 12oclock mark there's a hole that travels into the intake manifold and it was packed full of gas/oil/dirt. I thought for a minute there was a bolt hole there that the throttle assembly bolted into but obviously only 4 bolts on the four corners. So why the hole that travels into the intake but dead end stops at the throttle body where the gasket sits between throttle body and intake? You can see what I'm talking about in your video at 4:22 as a brown circle stain on the throttle body. I took a screw driver and scraped it out pretty clean but I'm concerned where some of the debris inside is going to go now. any idea what I'm dealing with inside this hole? Any ideas greatly appreciated.
@NKPGarage
@NKPGarage Год назад
That's a good question. I have taken apart a lot of these 1FZFE motors but never paid a lot of attention that port other than cleaning it. My guess is that the throttle body may be plumbed differently on either various years (93-94 vs 95-97), or it may be plumbed differently based on what country it is produced in for various emissions standards.

@@NKPGarage Yeah, So I got a flash light inside and it looks like it can be cleaned out without debris falling down the intake tubes because the tubes appear to be higher than where the debris falls on the flat surface, when you scrape and clean it out. So basically I was able to just put my fingers and rag in the intake hole and scoop out all the debris that fell down from the port/hole I cleaned out. I think all is good. I was dreading the thought of taking the intake off as you were showing how difficult it looks. lol NO THANKS! I'm confident my engine isn't so dirty that I'll need to deal with anytime soon. And if I do , I think it will be time to swap with an LS motor. Something I've always wanted to do anyways but this is my daily driver for now. Thanks for the video and would love to see you show off the turbo install someday. Be blessed!

Nice work! Glad you were able to get it cleaned up. These 1FZs will last forever if they’re maintained. But they don’t make a whole lot of power until you add forced air. And even then they will never be very efficient on gas like the LS is capable of. Just depends what you want out of it. The LS swap is just so perfect of a fit on these. And there’s tons of engine bay space to fit them in.

Thanks for the sub!! Some of those hoses become accessible once you remove the throttle body. Others require removal of the upper intake manifold. I'll try to get it filmed in detail once this motor is ready to go back together. I think I'll finally get time once the kids are back in school.

I remember you have to get 1 or 2 of the Intake manifold nuts/bolts from the bottom. I remember using like 3 or 4 ft of extensions with a wobble extension at end... Right as I am typing thus I hear in background that you got it..lol

I have the milwaukee 2114-21 magnetic rechargeable floodlight and its killer cause it's so bright and small and sticks into small places when its difficult to see and can just stick under the hood and be bright enough to light up everything you need. But get a headlamp it solves a lot of the lighting issues! Any decent one will work but I have a Milwaukee one I like cause I have a few of the other ones in the rechargeable series. But the easiest way to reach those or anything back there is to just hop on into the engine bay! I had a stepladder on the sides by the tires but even with most of the things you took off there still, I would hop in stepping on the wheel well mainly and then sitting on the valve cover or sitting on the front crossbar/radiator or really even squatting from where you can stand or lean over the engine makes it easier to access the egr and see back there,. You have it super easy since all the things you have out of the way you have the lower frame area to step on. Don't quite remember the yoga pose I needed to it best but there's more than enough room in there and accessing it from the passenger side is a bit easier. Some kind of shop towel or cushion or even a piece of wood can help to sit on there if needed but hopping in there is probably the second cheat code to get those after taking the hood off. Surprised that you don't have a vacuum diagram under the hood mine does that shows all the lines and valves and general routing. But are you gonna clean out the intake as well as any of the places where the lines come into the intake? I'd be interested to see the state of the pass-thru hose that runs from the end of the EGR into the intake manifold because mine has become blocked and I think is the source of my check engine light or one of the VSV or one of the other things stuck below the intake. I think you mentioned that this one has the same check engine light so I would be curious to see what the state of all the vacuum lines and valves are as well as the lines since you are digging into them anyways.
@NKPGarage

ItThat milwaukee unit is a beast as well ! I may add that to my toolbox as well now that you mentioned it. I really like the power it has and the versatility. I have a few headlamps, but I just have never been a fan of them when working in an engine bay for some reason. THe lower intake manifold is a bit gunky on the inside of the runners, so I may pull it and clean them all out "while I'm in there".... That's how the story always goes, right? :-) There is a vacuum diagram under the hood, I think it was just not in the video maybe. Good point on the EGR hose, I will definitely take a look and get it on video to show what the condition is on it. Good memory on the check engine light ! It was for EGR and Oxygen sensors. I'm not going to bother changing anything that is not obviously a problem until I get it all back together. I have a feeling there were a few vacuum leaks, and just by the looks of things, I don't think the injectors have ever been removed and rebuilt/cleaned. So the plan is to get it all cleaned/fixed/rebuilt, then see what codes are being thrown and go from there. Wish me luck !! :-)

Also you are not going to be able to remove the lower manifold without taking out the engine wiring harness out first iirc, this or you can actually cut a small section of the lower manifold where it attaches a couple of the intake runners, sounds bad but really isn't
