disappointing yall didnt talk at all about the design process thats one of the single most important aspects of the record attempt and it didnt get touched on at all. not a single mention of what differentiated your craft from the previous record owners

What an honour it was to meet & chat to Glen & the Crew in November (we were there for our annual Dry Lakes Racing Australia working bee prior to Speedweek in March) We race on & love Lake Gairdner, so to share the respect we all have for what we call "our hallowed ground" of racing was an awesome experience the whole club has been super excited by your success especially in the difficult times we know only too well. Congrats to all involved! (quietly looking forward to the teams next achievements!!)

Iceboating was one of the first things I though of for less contact drag. I wonder if one could make saltskates?
@GOTMV
@GOTMV 6 месяцев назад
@@ImpmanPDX iceboat runners place a downward pressure on the ice. This pressure melts the ice forming a micro layer of water between the runner and the ice. It is this layer of water the reduce the coefficient of friction. I don't think salt skates would deliver the results you're looking for.

@US772
@US772 6 месяцев назад
My guess on design differences. #1 a ton more money spent. #2 A team effort Wing - tip smaller , Aspect ratio higher, = less drag,chord section more powerful. Chassis - lower to the ground = close the gap = less drag. Suspension. I don’t think Greenbird had suspension. Outrigger shorter and thinner = less drag. Two rear wheels instead of one. I believe they had steering issues at one point by not getting the for and aft ce right or the steering geometry was wrong. Interestingly the craft weighed 6000lbs (way more than Greenbird and over three times heavier than Iron Duck) and set the record in less wind - less drag wins over weight. The right guy was operating the craft.

Kinda weird this is the first I heard about this anywhere. good that support from sponsors allows people to do some fun activities that others appreciate. not sure i would say the record was smashed, but definity beaten. surely low level high speed wind foils and flying crafts are the next natural step. An achievement certainly (wonder why they decided to "shut it down at the end of the month" ?) ... but what did they learn that'll help with sailing a boat ? Sure, they kept the design team together. Sure they ultimately set the record. But how does this help ETNZ win the next AC ? Probably something that'll make to go faster would be a "fly-by wire" digital controller, since it seems to be difficult to keep the car balanced off the out-rigger.
