I am drawn to minimal landscape photography; Images that are quiet, clean and simple. In this video I use my Fuji X-T3 & Hasselblad 501cm film camera to photograph outdoor landscapes in Iceland. Landscape photography can be whatever you want it to be, today I want my landscape photography to be minimalist.

I absolutely love this mentality - "My images might be rubbish, this might be rubbish, but I don't care. I'm... right now I'm really in the moment and enjoying it, so... yea. What a beauty." This is what photography should be all about - a way to immerse yourself in the moment and find beauty all around you.

Luke Orwin I think so as well, but there's also the other X-T3 images, not discussed in the video, that are very wave like as well. I'm glad he decided to share them in the video. And the last image had an alien feel to it when I first saw it. I found myself asking if it was really taken on our planet. Keep up the great photography and I look forward to the next video.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why you four, in conditions of high wind or other adverse circumstances, don’t employ the feature in each of your tripods that allows you to further spread and lock the legs for much better stability? With a wider spread, the stability of the camera platform rises exponentially. Maybe a topic for a “lessons learned” video sometime in the future. As always, thank you for an excellent video, not only in photographic creativity, but entertainment value as well. Very much appreciated.

I want to personally thank you for your videos, especially during this whole covid issue. They remind me that sooner or later, our lives should return to a semblance of normalcy. That there is still beauty and majesty and grace out there, patiently awaiting all of us. This video reminded me of what I call a motophoto trip. My last motophoto chapter involved the usual suspects, my old bike full of decent photo gear, terrible camping gear, and no maps. As I drank my coffee each morning, I drew a crude "X" on the ground with a toe. (points of the X are compass points) Flipped a coin over the X. Where the flipped coin landed determined the direction my travels would take me that day. Spent lots of time on mountain gravel roads, just looking for light and compositions, not aiming for any destination. Eventually found myself 1,700 miles from home at White Sands national park, doing minimalist photography. Anyway, Thank You, Mr. Heaton. You're unconsciously doing nothing less than performing a mental health service for some of us here.

Consistently good minimal is FAR harder to perfect and more enjoyable than just grabbing a 16-35 and shooting wide and filling the frame with sky and fg - something I was guilty of for 10 years!

You’ve got me to start and crop some of my images to square; it’s actually amazing how much of a different look it can bring; especially to the high percentage of my photos that I never thought initially worked too well; I can go back and put some life into them and actually use them. Thanks for the tips.

Hi Tom, hope you are enjoying using your Blad, I have had 500C/M since I was a photography student nearly 40 yrs ago, What you need to overcome the issue with using a cable release is an L adapter, there's a few on Ebay. Also, when shooting longer exposures not only do you need to hold the shutter release down long enough to prevent the blinds closing but you should also use the mirror lock ! this will prevent camera shake and hold the blinds open at the same time.. keep on snapping !!

I love the stories about the taking of a photo. When I'm at the Dr office and about to get a blood pressure reading I look at one on my photos and remember the story that was the taking of that picture. My pictures are not like those Mr. Heaton takes, but I imagine that most of us can remember standing behind the camera for a favorite picture, adjust this or guessing that. Every time I watch these episodes my stories are a little better and the Dr is more pleased with my blood pressure. Thanks Thomas! PS. Great pictures this episode.

If there's one thing to take away from this series apart from the enjoyment of seeing some fantastic images is to sometimes go out there and enjoy the experience and not to put pressure on yourself to come back with an image. If that happens then that's a bonus

Love the curves and 8 sorta seconds purple shot on provia. Brave images and strong. Beautiful really deep down in a special way. Great videos. Have to give you a compliment. You are a first class citizen. Saw the video from 2018 where you finish having lunch with pasta and spicy sausage (it was warm food on a cold day). Along the way you picked up trash. You took the time to make that statement. That matters a lot and took me back in time. Here is something a wonderful man taught us in grade school many decades ago. It is about citizenship (and behavior of kids too...): Third class citizen leave trash. Don't be one of those. Second class citizens don't leave trash but don't pick any up - that is most of you. First class citizen don't leave trash - and they pick it up when they see it. Be one of these in your life and it will make the world better. Had to share that. Thanks for sharing your time and thoughts...it is helping me think anew about photography. Your work is magnificent.

Nice! I’m from Brisbane as well (Shailer Park). Went though central Queensland a couple of years ago. Didn’t find the people of Winton and Longreach very friendly, far from it in fact. At the time, they were in the thick of a nasty drought so I think that this may of played a part. Lark Quarry outside of Winton is good to see. Shame you aren’t going to Longreach because Captain Starlights lookout was a great side trip. Have a good trip.

Around 18 years ago, before RU-vid a friend of mine got married and her husband and her went on their honeymoon to Iceland. Everyone thought that was unique, but strange as well. We didn't have as easy of access to gorgeous footage like you are sharing of these amazing vistas. I've had friends visit since then and it definitely is on the short list of places I want to visit when traveling is allowed again.

I like the first image as well. The reflected purple-pink light on the snow plays so well off the dirt below it. The Fuji Velvia 50 just magnifies those amazing colors in the second.
