Sleeping in my Car for Landscape Photography

Landscape photography requires a certain amount of commitment whether it is a long hike or an early start. In this video I aim to photograph sunset and sunrise in the lake district national park, however I have nowhere to stay for the night. Wild camping is out of the question, campsites were full and hotels are too expensive. My last option was to sleep in my car and it paid off as I woke up to beautiful mist and fog which made for some great landscape photography.

Definitely the colour version Thomas, I like how you can see the blue water in the foreground and to the left rear of the image, it's a nice contrast of colours.

Hi Thomas, if you are looking for more separation in BW photo use color filters. It is of course possible simulate in post process but not everytime because color filter alter how much light of given color is touching sensor. I thought that color filters are obsolete in digital era but they are not.

Tom, there's a gentleness to your videos. There's an integrity, a respect and a simplicity. I would rate you as a bloody decent film maker at this stage. Also the music that you choose and how you use it. These videos are beautiful and an art form all by themselves.

The white cow in the dark grass in the foreground puts the higher contrast photo on top in my opinion. It's one tiny detail that seems to make the foreground feel "whole", though if you were lucky enough to have it standing more towards the left it'd possibly be more balanced. Regardless, wow.. I love that photo. The enormous roots hugging the rocks give the tree on the right so much character.

Soft colored one for me. With the BnW white one, its kinda like what you would normally expect when you want separation. On the colored one the mist only softens the copse of trees itself and not the surrounding foreground and it gives it an ethereal and is a truly lucky turn of events.

My vote is for the B&W version, without hesitation. Like you said yourself in the video Tom, it has all of the elements, the mist behind the tree, and the deep contrasts it helps create. The layering in the foreground of light and shadows is further emphasised by the stone walls, separated by the light falling between them. I adore the sharp details in the tree which on its own creates even more contrast with the software areas behind it. And the little 🐑 is that little bit extra that really puts together the final detail of the composition. The B&W treatment celebrates all of this, and it's easily one of my favourite photos of yours. So well done! Love it!

Lovely video journal. I’m torn between the two for one main reason and it isn’t the mist. In the monochrome version the wee lamb was actually my favorite element as it showed scale within the scene. It made the tree seem so much bigger, almost like those giants you see in a rain forest. I think if the wee lamb was in the colored version it would be a win, but because of the of its absence, the monochrome wins out...for me. Great vlog 🙌🏽
