In today’s video, we are comparing some of the common words and phrases between Spanish and Tagalog. Ever since the original similarities between Spanish and Filipino video, we have received many Instagram messages, requesting a longer part 2, so here it is. In this video, Claudia and Danitza (Spanish speakers) go against Joan and Glowy (Filipino speakers) with a list of words, phrases, and sentences.
If you live in Toronto or the surrounding areas and would like to participate in a future video, and/or if you have any suggestions or feedback, please contact us on Instagram:

Spanish is a Western Romance language that originated in the Castile region of Spain which has expanded to become the world's second-most spoken native language group of languages. Most of modern Spanish comes from Latin, with ancient Greek and Arabic also having an impact on the language. It has also been influenced by Basque, Iberian, Celtiberian, Visigothic, French, Italian, Occitan, Catalan and Sardinian, as well as from Nahuatl, Quechua, and other indigenous languages of the Americas. The Spanish language evolved from Vulgar Latin, which was brought to the Iberian Peninsula by the Romans during the Second Punic War, beginning in 210 BC. Previously, several pre-Roman languages, unrelated to Latin, and some of them unrelated even to Indo-European, were spoken in the Iberian Peninsula. These languages included Basque (still spoken today), Iberian, Celtiberian and Gallaecian. Today, Spanish is the official language of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Tagalog is an Austronesian language, which is spoken as a first or a second language by the majority of the people of the Philippines. Tagalog is officially named Filipino in its standardized form and along with English it is an official language in the Philippines.

There was an opportunity missed in this video by not inviting only Mexicans with the Fіlipіna ladies because while it is true that the Philippines share commоn words with the Hіsраnіс world in general, it is with the Meхісans that Filipinos share much more than simple Sраnіsh words. The Spaniards discriminated against the Filipinos, while the Mexicans did not! Mexico was like a big *supportive brother for the Filipinos* during difficult times (not only during the viceroyalty era but also by the centuries after that). For approximately 250 years, Mexico City administered the Philippines; Mexico City was the capital of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, which governed New Spain on behalf of the King. During that era, the Filipinos incorporated aspects of the Mexican Culture as their own, such as customs, traditions, gastronomy; the reverence for the Virgin of Guadalupe; Filipinos also adopted many words from the Náhuatl language, and it is worth mentioning that Mexican Spanish heavily influenced Filipino Spanish which is noticeable in the accent, colloquialisms, slang, etc. Some of that changed at the beginning of the XX century, but the Mexican influence persists, the Philippines even has a first-class municipality called _"Mexico"_ in the Philippine province of _Pampanga._ In exchange, in Mexico, there are places named in honour of the Philippines. We Filipinos and Mexicans share fraternal roots. It is not a coincidence that Mexicans are sometimes mistaken for Filipinos and vice versa. ¡Un saludo fraternal desde México hacia Filipinas!
@xolotlmexihcah4671
@xolotlmexihcah4671 5 лет назад
Thank you! I truly hope to see a future video featuring only a bunch of Mexicans with Filipinos, and if you combine females and males would be epic! Let the magic flow, cheers! :D

@Math Class That's correct. _Acapulco_ was an important pоrt for the Manila galleons _(Galeón de Manila)._ That trade route allowed the arrival of Mexican Native Americans and mestizos; their assimilation to the Tagalog and Visayan cultures in the Philippines was rapid. There was even an influence on clothing from both sides. Goods such as tomato, corn, chayote, vanilla, beans, chocolate, papaya, avocado, pitaya (dragons fruit), pumpkins, zapote, mamey and chilli peppers were brought straight from Mexico to the Philippines through the Manila galleons. ¡Viva Filipinas!

@@necrazer6896 The same reason why Cubans and other dialects of Spanish pronounce it - Dialect differences. Even in some Spanish speakers from the Philippines pronounce the Spanish J like an English H. Also, Philippine languages don't have the J sound in standard Spanish, so the closest sound is the pharyngeal H sound that gets replaced. It could also be because of language contact from English. Filipinos who aren't educated about Spanish or in Spanish will tend to read Spanish words as English words and put English pronunciations on it. That’s why I chose Spanish as my World Language subject in School. Cos there’s a 40% chance that I already know a phrase or word from being filipina so I get an easy A+ Btw I live in the US and I have a rlly close Mexican friend even though Mexican Spanish is a little different from Spain Spanish I learn alot from her. And when I go over to her house her mom just talks to me in Spanish cos she knows I mostly understand it just from a few words but I still don’t know how to talk in fluent sentences so I still gotta learn to form sentences when talking to a native speaker cos I do get nervous and forget words alot but yeah me and my mexican friends family have alot of things in common😊

@josecabello5821
@josecabello5821 4 года назад
@@carlbalasa4012 Sure, your literacy rate is mostly influenced by the US because, I repeat, the US ERASED it. By the way, Spain founded in The Philippines the first two universities of the country (both in Manila): San Ignacio (1590) and Santo Tomás (1645). What is more, by the year 1870 Spain had already built more than 1,600 free public schools in The Philippines (with around 175,000 students). Consequently, by the end of the 20th century, The Philippines had one of the best public and free teaching systems of all the Asian continent. So you should inform yourself before saying nonsense. It's high time that you know that the US, first, killed your people, second, used your resources, and, third, wasted you when they left. Even your leader/president by the time you got your independence from Spain in 1898 admitted a few years later that they were much more better with Spain than with the US.

Tengo alegria que tu aprendes el idioma de nuestros abuelos. Soy filipino tambien. Tengo una lista de vocabulario se llama "Palabras tagalas" en mi cuenta en el sitio spanishdict.com. Es un mejor sito para aprender Espanol pero yo reclamo que no existen las palabaras espanoles de origin filipino como abaca, carabao, y caracoa. Perdon por no poner accento en mi comento.
