I've an account from a Union soldier who survived Andersonville. He said the Irish all kept to the north side of the filthy creek. He said they sang one song constantly, all night and day. He wrote down the 1st verse and asked that some reader name this tune. "In the town of Atoll lived a man name of Lanigan..."
@dookie2kie Lanigan's ball is a song about getting drunk and fighting. In fact using the term "lanigans ball" is used to describe a situation that went to shit.
Soldier0Cross That explains why comedian Frank Kelly used it for his version of "Charlie Stepped In...". That was about the troubles in Ireland during the 1970s.

It used to be on VHS tape back in the 80's I had it but I'd be surprised if the record company bothered transferred it to DVD release, seen em twice 1988 great music & craic👍

I know Christy Moore is good but there's no need to compare him with the Lord Jesus Christ!! Christ would never sing a song like Lisdoonvarna - at least that type of song not in the repertoire of my church choir!
