i was surprised to find no electrics at all . There is a big gapping whole in the crankcase at the front . The belts at the front are molded in one direction but bare in the opposite . The bolt holding the rear wishbone to the crank is extremely weak , braided wires are off low quality and fray . No spare tire and extinguisher . Have to remove a lot of chrome on parts if not all before priming . I kept the chrome on the joints to cables and hoses to clear painting which was a positive . Terrible Goodyear decals , had to order the real thing from the US with the blue circle . Waiting for quality silver braided lines to redo all the oil and fuel lines .
This model is a bit of a dissapointment. Box say's - 'realistic engine detail' - Not so!. There is no distributor for the engine, no starter motor. The mass of chrome parts is like a throwback to a 1960's toy for a 10 year old. The vents to either side of the rear body require drilling out as does the vents on the top for the air inlets. It is very strange that Trumpeter took the effort to make some parts well but effectively 'ignored' what is the center of interest on this car - the engine/gearbox. So, out of the box you cannot make a good model, you need to make & modify parts (& probably use aftermarket items such as the KA Models transkit). At this scale the claims of Trumpeter on the box of 'complete interior and exterior' are simply not true.
I agree. This is not an out of the box kit. I wanted to build the Ken Miles one,blue. From this kit it's not easy. The driver's door needs modifying, the red flashes on the front wings will need to be masked and painted,not easy either. Also most importantly ,no distributor,or leads!! Steering column is useless and screw holes every where. Watch out using the decals, and strip that chrome. Its a hard kit to get right. After all that,it only cost me £50 so s Barton and I do have a GT40 to go next to my family's Lola now. Enjoy the struggle.🤗
