I just want to let you know that you have an excellent demeanor and I very much enjoy listening to you explain your process. You would be excellent at speaking on many things, not just tekken.
this is one of the most clear and simple guides I've seen for a tekken character, explaining the core moves and how they interact with the character's gameplan is great
Your guides are just the best. Many other guides just show the punishes for each frame, key moves, combos and thats it. You actually explain the thought proccess behind each move and show the actual gameplan of the character. And this particular guide is well layered, you have a talent for teaching. I learned Miguel from you in T7 and now i wanna put some time into Lars. Thank you FW.
Thanks so much for the guide! 7 was my first Tekken game and I absolutely fell in love with Lars - not least because I'm a contrarian who loved the idea of wilfully picking a character everyone perceived as weak. Your content has been a mentor throughout, and I've long appreciated your calm, analytical, and insightful analysis. Dang I miss DF2 though. Everything-crushing scoopy elbow was one of my favourites - and the 1 extension made it the absolute best for those "I don't know what to do in this combo but this will probably work" situations. Going into 8 has been difficult for me. I've got so much muscle memory to unlearn as I refamiliarize myself with the character - it's been a little overwhelming. This is exactly the sort of thing I needed to introduce me to all the changes. Thank you!
Really glad to see it's guide season again. The early Alisa guides helped me get into the game back in 2019, and now years later with tons more FG experience these are still excellent for getting a refresher of what moves are good and the general game plan for characters.
Thank you thank you thank you. I’ve been trying to put what I know on paper but I am struggling so hard to organize my thoughts. These guides have helped me a ton in jump starting my brain for notes on characters. Please keep doing this for as many characters as you can 🙏🙏
Newcomers to the game here. It was very interesting to watch and get an idea of the character. Also thanks for improving the video quality, I can't say it's crucial, but it's undoubtedly much more enjoyable. Thanks again!
Great guide, I've seen a few guides that basically just list like 20 key moves and their frame data and counter hit properties and then thats the guide, some don't even cover punishment. Need more like this one where you actually take the time to explain how to play the character and transition into his mixups.
you are such a great teacher man, other guides cause me sm trouble because of how they structure it. i just cant follow up with them bringing up my 10 best moves then going into strings AND holding stances with out even knowing what they do.. Tysm man
Thank you for this guide all my friends have this game and my homie got tired of me not having it so he just bought it for me and then promptly kicked my butt in it to motivate me to learn it. This was a good start for me, can't wait to put this into practice
I’ve been a follower since the Lovecraft days. You’re a funny dude, and I do have some fun with your vitriolic rants, but you’re at your best when you’re digging in and enjoying the game with us like this. I don’t even play Lars, but I’m gonna watch all of this, because I love the things you take into consideration. Thanks for everything
Great guilde! Huge Lars fan since Tekken 6. Small correction! The stomp off Dynamic Entry is 3+4, i believe you said it was 1+2 in the guide by accident. Guide was still amazing, but i just wanted to let you know!! LARS ARMY STAND UP!!!!!
Thank you for this very helpful guide! As someone who’s never played Tekken extensively and wanted to choose Lars as the starting point, this is incredibly valuable to me. Cheers, dude! ^^
I've been a Claudio main since the guy was announced in tekken 7, I always thought Lars was cool but was always intimidated because he's a stance character, thank you for this video Lars is now my 2nd character.
i noticed the 1080p and 1440p option. that's awesome that you can record like that now. next upgrade should be 60fps (but don't sweat it too much since YT kinda struggles to display true 60fps)
Dynamic 4 also goes into limited if you press down Also I learned heaps in this video, I've been playing Lars for about a week and this video extended all my combo damage big time as well as help give me more setups
One move that was not mentioned but seems kind of important is db+4 it's an unsafe(if it's blocked you will get launched) but unseeable low that launches on counter hit with great range. Use it to poke from a distance and do a while standing mixup with ws+2 -> hold forward to enter into silent and press 1 or 2 as already explained in the video.
Great guide and I will keep comming back to this while learning Lars. Would be amazing if the video had some time stamps so viewers could easily navigate between the different learning bits.
It's really nice that they just moved his moves around. The new stance and moves on it were actually there before. Avalanche 1 and ki charge 2 were always good moves but really cheeky to use. The spin he does when doing limited entry is from his 3 hold d and db 1,3 hold d (I wish that's not gone). DE 4 is his 1,4 basically. 2,1 was from f412. I wish they kept his old 2,1 and made the new 2,1 into 2,1+2 because 214 is kind of stylish when doing wallbreaks. The new heat smash is his old DE1+2 from t6. I might pick him up again
Lars is so back. Thanks for this guide Frame! Its good to see you after all this time. Lars truly is back and it feels so good. Honestly the only things he is missing is a complete throw game and for some of his lows to not be -20. I still dont get why Jin gets a ch launch tracking low thats -14 while Lars FF43 doesn't even knock down.We did get that nice stance transition with FF42 now though, gotta experiment with that.
A small tip if this hasn't been mentioned already but for Lars as well as the majority of the cast you want to use a single hit spin/tornado move at the wall( like with Lars ff,2 or Jet uppercut with Bryan for example)if you have it saved. Two hit tornado moves will cause the wall combo to drop
New to Tekken 8 and I really can't decide which character I should play. The Idea of picking a good, solid one without any gimmicks to learn the basics is, at least for me, a fresh take in contrast to the "play what you like" one. Will definitely check him out - thanks for that in depth video :)
Thanks for the video. Lars is my main but I am struggling to get past the orange ranks. My main problem is his neutral game and looking for launch opportunities. I tend to over-extend and it seems like everyone is just waiting for me to go into stance so they can interrupt or punish. Also, during end game, I find my self getting hit with a lot of rage arts. This happens because Lars is always going into some sort of stance that he cannot block from. This makes him such an easy target for rage arts. If you could do a video on how to play Lars in neutral and what sort of set-ups you can do from neutral, and how you manage end-game potential rage arts, that will be much appreciated.
Hey Frame, one thing I want to add: the f,b+2,1 can be buffered out of blockstun. To be exact, if you have a Hitbox or I assume keyboard, you can buffer the directions in blockstun in Tekken 7. I imagine this is the case in 8 as well.
I wanted to watch this video initially to gather a bit of knowledge on what the heck this character is doing on the screen but you got me interested in actually playing him, he's extremely strong in this game. LOL
Alright, Raiden mod is out, time to learn Lars again I gotta say, I was hoping Namco would just address Lars's bad homing and lack of good lows since I felt those were really holding him back, but to have such a newfound emphasis on his mixups out of stances is crazy. Not the direction I was expecting, but I guess when SE 2 started launching people on CH, this was going to happen lol. Hey I'm all here for it, Lars is one of the more honest party animals in the game.
Hey FrameWhisperer! This is my first Tekken game and I really love how in depth you go with this guide. It helps a lot as someone trying to grasp all that's happening. I'm having trouble understanding the combo section though. You started to explain f1+2's combo but then stopped after "f1+2 > df3 hold df > DYN 2 > " and then you just didn't ever say what to do next. Also you say uf3 is a good launcher earlier but then never went over what combo to do with it. I tried the one you initially said but the f3 > DYN 2 doesn't connect, they have time to tech roll out of it. Similarly, you never say how to combo off of db4 CH, SIL 3, or ws1. Also - what mini combos can you use off of the hits that do tornado right away? Like Limited Entry 2 on normal hit.
(sorry if youre doing this already) it'd be cool to have a section (or follow up video) on "layer 2" character starter guides. Content is something like 1. This is how you play against an unsuspecting opponent. 2. This is how your opponent can counter that gameplay. 3. This is how you can counter that counter-gameplay Edit to add: this would also widen your target market as you're now also catering to people who want to beat XYZ character but not play them. Thanks again for the great content. This was really useful as is!
Lars actually looks pretty good. I used to play him in Tag 2 but gave up on him in T7. There are so many characters I want to learn and re-learn in Tekken 8 but I have to focus on my mains, Nina and Zafina, first.
Sen 4 is more of a change than a nerf, it startup frames are reduced by 8 which means that opponents can no longer df1 into duck to beat all option, it will now more often punish people for attempting to interrupt
I think se3+4 is also worth using because it’s 0 on block and knocks down on hit SE 1 is great but it’s -6 so you lose your turn but with se3+4 it’s neutral and forces crouch so you can easily step afterwards Also they made se4 way faster so you can actually go into se on block and the opponent can’t really option select you like they could in 7
I played Lars in Revolution and TTT2. I loved getting counter hits with Power Spike. When they changed the input in 7, it really fked with me. But since he’s one of the characters I’ve played so much, like Armor King and Yoshi, he’s one of my muscle memory characters so I’d use him from time to time. He’s awesome in T8 but I’m trying to do an instant power spike. I’ve done it by accident to the point where you couldn’t see the crouch but there must have been a crouch. I wish he still had the option to stomp out of stance. It’s already been a month and I haven’t played the story and haven’t had an online match in two weeks but I go to warm up in training. I don’t recall if the options are just limited with this move but his WR 3 sets up a combo like it’s a launcher, but I can’t recover fast enough to get a full proper combo. Hopefully, I’ll get an answer to that. Edit: got that answer. Could have sworn there was a non stance option
Characters that have 14 frame launchers from standing in T8: Paul, Bryan, Law?, Lars, Ling, Kazuya, Reina (13f possible for both), Jin, Devil Jin. So over 25% of the roster...which is is surprisingly high. Only thing is that doing that with the 4 Mishimas is extremely hard and only very high level mishimas will punish with 14f electrics. Even Jet Upper and Lars 14 frame are kinda hard to buffer on reaction on fast stun block moves.
I really click with Lars against ghosts and the cpus but against other players I feel like I’m struggling with defense. Do I need to just practice his punishers more? Because I don’t have the same problem with my other mains victor and jun
Love you video man, I’m new to tekken so I’m having some trouble but I got a lot of it down. Going from flashbang into 1, back 3 kick then lighting axle kick to finish it won’t connect for some reason. Maybe I’m missing a cancel or somthing somewhere?
Edit: I guess FC df 2, db 2, f> SEN 1+2, f 3, DEN 2, uf 4 works for both 🤔 Hey, guys, what do we do off of CH db 4? And also, what's the go-to combo for uf 3? Ideally something close to the bnb Frame showed for most other starters 🤐
As a Lars main since he dropped in Tekken 6 I'll say that they completely dismembered him in Tekken 7. Here in Tekken 8, it feels almost as good to play him as it did in Tekken 6 and a Tekken Tag 2
A beginner character with 3 stances and combos being gated by said stances is a bit of a stretch. His mix-ups are great and easy to do, but the combo inputs are very difficult.
