This looks delicious. It's kind of a hybrid between Greek Pastitsio and lasagna. Most lasagna recipes I've tried don't have the white sauce. The meat and pasta are layered with seasoned ricotta cheese and the top is usually just cheese (mozzarella or provolone). Pastitsio has some different seasonings in the sauce and uses a long tubular noodle in the layers along with a white sauce on top. Recipes are unique to the creator, aren't they?
I've heard originally it was made with bechamel sauce, then as it travelled around the world people substituted all kinds. Dont know how true any of that it though.
Looks really good, here we don't use a cheese sauce we use either ricotta or cottage cheese with mozzarella or and parmesan cheese.I have never had with with a cheese sauce instead but it looks wonderful I may just have to try it this way :)

Hi Helen Hope u r having a great weekend Just a quick question I boil my pasta sheets before putting it in the Pyrex dish but I have tried to do it the way u do it but But mine turn out crispy and hard rather that's soft and melted How was yours ??
Mine always turn out fine maybe your sauces are to thick as the pasta is cooked by soaking up the sauces plus how long are you baking in the oven I cook for an hour :)
Hi Helen how do you keep your steel pots clean? I destroyed mine in the first few uses it's got burned on stains even though I didn't burn the food? Cant for the life of me remove it :(
