I built a holder for the First Alert can mounted to the side of the laser so it will not get lost. Always there if I need it.

I put a smoke alarm in my enclosure after seeing yours some months ago. One more fire suppression option you may want to have is a fire blanket. If you can smother the fire without chemicals you'll likely have less clean up to do than the spray extinguisher options.
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack Год назад
Since I have got some experience, I haven’t had any flame issues. I still take precautions but my setup seems to work well for keeping the flames down.
@Taliesen.

@@TheClackShack ?? A fire blanket is something you can throw over the machine if a fire does start up instead of using the extinguishers. I.e. If water spray doesn't do the trick, next step could be a fire blanket rather than turning to expensive consumable extinguishers.

You could line the enclosure with fire safe material.

Any recommendations for a setting up the D1 for a smoke purifier? I can’t really vent out where my set up will be

You will need to enclose it then pick out a filtering system. They somewhat work...

Where do you get a metal sheet to put on your work surface under the laser? I’m thinking of getting myself XTool D1 Pro 20W and IR head too. Is what comes with their honeycomb enough? Thanks!
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack Год назад
Yes, for a diode machine the metal that comes with the honeycomb works fine. The laser is so out of focus when it reaches the material that is has very little effect.

Actually good video, I happen to be one of the top 15 placed winners of the xtool fire safety system they announcing Dec 20th not sure how much I will need it as I never leave my laser running un-attended nor will I when this finally gets to me but it may come in handy some day....Hopefully I never need it but just the same.

1: Make your enclosure from fire retardant material like laminate board made with mineral fibers 2: DON'T use powder extinguishers - the powders commonly used in cheap consumer extinguishers with ruin everything in your shop 3: get a full-size CO2 extinguisher or one for kitchens - the latter ones not only optimized for fat/oil (not our problem) but will also minimize collateral damage 4: extract your fumes but use a spark trapping device between enclosure & fan 5: A fire blanket is cheap (IKEA family shop) and can help to control the fire 6: If you can, replace your enclosure window with a camera and a monitor - you DO have to protect your camera sensor from laser exposure though! Often times an old Canon Powershot hooked up to an old Laptop is cheaper than a small certified laser window...

I understand the glasses you use will work with my 10w 455nm diode laser. What about the 2w 1064 nm infrared laser? The Xtool F1 is the machine I'm talking about. I'm just a little confused. Thanks in advance for your help.
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack 11 месяцев назад
No, the ones that I use for diodes will not work for 1064. This is the pair that I use for the fiber, which is 1064. amzn.to/49drmuf

Thanks for this video. I actually have cats and always make sure that they are not able to be around when I am laser engraving or even 3D printing as they like to try and play with them while they are moving. I really like the idea of that spray bottle with water. I am saving my next empty spray bottle and keep that locally to the laser engravers. Again thanks for this video and all the others you post. I watch them all.

It is great for small flames if they happen but you need stages..lol
@prpman99
@prpman99 Год назад
Good job. Wouldn't have thought it would happen to me but early on in my laser "life" had a small cardboard fire in the laser. Happened when I stepped out of the shop for a "minute" and on return to see flames. Was able to put out quickly and thankfully no damage to laser. Had the laser sitting on my worktable, not inside the enclosure, cutting some oversized pieces. I think the cable on the right side of the xTool caught the cardboard. Lesson learned is that it can happen quicker than you may think. P.S. Forgot to put the metal plate under the honeycomb when cutting an oversized piece and now have a reminder brand on the worktable surface!

Great video, thanks for this. I did not even know they had such a thing as an automotive fire extinguisher, it is definitely much cheaper than a C02 extingisher that another you tube video suggested. I just bought my first laser, a 5w open frame diode laser and safety is definitely on my mind.

One more question- your glasses that you show and put on your head are orange lens, but when I click on the link, it shows orange glasses, but when you read description, it says green lens on them. Does it make a difference if it’s green or orange lens? For Diode and Infrared lasers? Thanks!
@TheClackShack

Good air assist helps stop fires in the first place. Before I had the air assist there was always a flame dancing around the tip of the laser beam usually around 1cm to 2cm but they always had the possibility of spreading. Since I installed the air assist I haven't seen any flames.

I thought that long as I have an enclosure and the guard by the laser that I would not have to be wearing glasses. So you are saying that you need to wear your glasses at all times is that what I’m understanding?

I am just saying that the more methods of protection, the better. Just in case one of the systems fail. Just being careful

If you go the extra cost of purchasing true laser safe plexi for the enclosure then should be okay. However, the stuff purchased from Amazon is good but probably not up to the same safety standard. Glasses are just good to have on hand.
