@@F1Elvis Sprints are killing F1 (as is DRS). But what worked well in period was to run a one make race on the Saturday with the F1 drivers.... Maybe in Nascar Stock cars, would be right hoot! - this might appeal to the American owners also.
They could definitely improve it, but I find sprint weekends more exciting. At least there is a bit more to watch on Fri Sat and Sunday. And it can be a bit more unpredictable, where we all know red bull is just gonna win on Sundays.
There are though, enough cases where new chassis were requested , and upon investigation they did found small hair cracks or something like that, that ultimately could influence the way a driver feels and understand things. Quite often, maybe also helped by placebo effects and extra pressure to proof it was the chassis, the drivers do perform better after a new chassis.

I have a hard time believing that Honda agreed to a Works partnership with Aston Martin without getting a say on the 2nd seat, likely Yuki. I suspect Alonso & Yuki pairing for 2026. Stroll Jr will either go to Sportscar or as he mentioned last year, maybe Tennis?
This may have been suggested before but what if F1 runs 2 championships concurrently? By that I mean have a Sprint championship with the normal championship but the sprint points not roled into the formal championship points. Then additionally, mandate that the test and reserve driver is active every sprint race weekend, using and alternating the regular drivers' cars. Also, do away with the the 3 practice sessions and roll them all into one elongated practice, which could be 1.5 to 2 hours long when the reserve driver would run for half that practice in the car of the driver giving his (sprint) seat up that weekend.
I suggested the Alonso/Sainz/Stroll in the comments of one of your previous videos @F1Elvis but also thought Adrian Newey would join if Aramco buy out AMR so Newey can design both the F1 and new road car which means he could earn 2 salaries and effectively double his money. Adrian is now 65 and after a Iifetime of designing winners is probably near the end of an amazing and illustrious career.
I think the new parc ferme rules are great, lower teams might be able to gamble on a setup for the sprint as they don’t have anything lose (except a chassis if they go too experimental). It didn’t make sense before to do the same setup for both as it was just the same as the first 3rd of the race
I really hope it works out for Daniel and see him back fighting for points, however I am worried he won’t see the year out going on his recent performances.
I think Lawerence Stroll has solidified the line up for 2024-25. 2026 with new regs and Honda means a reshuffling of the deck. Lawerence will want to deliver a world champion team before bowing out. If Lance is to be replaced, it would be 2026. Seed Stream is very handy.
Cost caps are way too harsh imo. We have inflation and also more races each season teams have to race at. I think it's funny how they bent over backwards with cost cuts to get Porsche in! Then Porsche walked away.
As for the sprint races, they are just for a handful of points now- don't we have way too many races already? Still not a fan of those. If Newey is really concerned about people, he should complain more about the number of races and sprints which will quicken burn out.
Lance isn’t moving anywhere so it was always going to be down to what Fernando chose to do. Laurence has clearly decided that Alonso was the better prospect above Ricciardo and I agree with him.
If cost cap for engineer salary is an issue, couldn't we just uncap that, whether completely or in some way. The main spend is things like parts and wind tunnel time etc. and that's what the cap is designed to target F1 engineer salaries tended to be lower anyway as demand is high (loads of talented engineers want to work in F1) - it's not like before the cost cap, it was the salaries skyrocketing that was a large part of the cost issue
Very much like Hamilton, Alonso is very cerebral and in a few years time will still be able to make a considerable contribution to whatever team he decides to work with. (Nicki Lauder was another good example of that). Danny Ric is a lovely guy but a completely different animal to the type I have just described.
I have never understood the purpose of the sprint races. How does the sprint races add anything. Drivers have to protect their cars for the main race, because of the repair time and cost of repairs. F1 should raise the cost cap because of the additional wear and tear on the cars for the sprint races. If they want to add excitement for the sprint races they should eliminate sprint qualifying. The sprint starting line up should be the reverse order of the current driver standings and give more points for the finishing positions of the sprint race. This would give the teams and drivers more incentive. Adrian Newey's concern is valid, but I don't see Red Bull's performance suffering. The cost cap has not help the bottom five teams. The cost cap needs to be restructured to help the bottom five teams.
The imminent rule change means an experienced hand on the wheel. So either they add young drivers right now to grab that seat time or wait until ‘27. With few exceptional talents on offer the ‘silly season’ looks to be rather a bore.
With the chassis talk, would a defective or slightly damaged chassis could change the feel of the car etc? Just a thought and remembered the Mick-Mazepin at Haas chassis talk when they we're at the team
RE: the engineers- the only tech start up engineers who are at large risk are the electrical and computer science engineers. Not the aero, since there are no significant tech start up aero companies. Even the ones who are super specialized in aero modeling, they won't got to an AI or programming company at a high salary. Let alone, we can't really worry about this until it's really run through the whole field. Seems to me, Newey is complaining that RBR is losing engineers to the field, since that's far more likely. And that's a goal of the cost cap- which is a great thing.
I'd say the predictability of Shanghai for future races is rather limited, through its circuit characteristics, the long hiatus, and the sprint format.
AS i have said , having the sprint race before, qualifying will mean 10 cars will just after a lap or 2 pull into the pits to retire, no ponit in racing in the sprint, with possibillity of damaging the car , just before actual qualyfying !!! WHAT A TERIIBLE IDEA!!
With modern complexities of F1, the sprint to me is just a waste of time, it’s not F1, the time is to short for any overtaking, but what is the point of it, used to have two one and a half hours of practice on a Friday.
I don't understand it. He's the only driver to really challenge Verstappen, he beat Vettel comfortably. He did well at Renault. But since McLaren and now back in the junior RB he looks like he's still struggling to beat his teammate! Even with the test he had! Very confusing, but we all know what RB are like, his days will be numbered if he can't sort himself out soon. Unfortunate, but very much true.
@@Melbourne-s4x yes Daniel had a credible weekend compared to previous races which is a good sign…. Hopefully he replays what Jacques Villeneuve said about him every night before he goes to sleep and regains the killer instinct and aggression he had when driving for RedBull then with more results more confidence will come and maybe a promotion to the top team will come….. especially if Checo keeps being Checo.
Saying they cant afford the best talent because ofnthe costcap is utter BS. Obviously. However, of they keep crying about it, FIA could just take the salaries of the top 5 (or top10) engineers out of the costcap. Or out a maximum on the amount of personnel that is allowed to work on the design of the car, bit let them be payed as much as a stardriver.
Marc what if danny rics chassis did have a flaw and the new chassis brings out the old danny ric will all the haters say well it must have been the old chassis or do they pipe up when he starts beating yuki and getting points. If they inserted a Free Practice 2 on Saturday after the Sprint and before the main Quali, then drivers would be more inclined to push during the sprint instead of conserving their car for quali. Also this idea of only handing out points to the top 8 finishers is as dumb as ever.
not going to lie the cost cap has done nothing. The already established top team where quiet far ahead the engines where already 99% race able before they got locked in. i kinda miss open slather. just like i miss refueling and tyre wars
@F1Elvis i cant see why refueling would be a issue if cars had slower pit speed. And maybe madatory wheel nuts and guns and fuel rigs so.. like add to the suspense building more. Maybe they can add a hyper charger or something so when they pit they can fuelly charge the battery for excessive deployment. For a period
I really like Danny Ric but he hasn’t really excelled over the last five years. He’s been very fortunate in having very good PR and a lot of team managers have taken him because of his toothy TV smile. Nevertheless, all the time he still wants to drive he’s taking up yet another seat that a hot rookie could be occupying. Please step aside now Dan….
Alonso has a record of a team disrupting, the nice guy he’s now trying to be doesn’t work on team management, just new people who watch F1,and human biology you can’t stop, gets a bit slower two tenths is nothing in our lives, in F1 it’s 4th not 2nd, let new talent in.
Good drivers find a way to drive the car fast. Ricciardo cannot adapt. I don't like him and never have and cannot see why people are constantly fawning over him. He drove ok at Red Bull till a really good driver came along and showed that he wasn't that good. Then what? Failure. All the psychology in the world won't make Ricciardo fast. Because he isn't. This has been proven conclusively by Lando crushing him. Then Oscar came and showed what a really fast driver can do and now Yuki keeps beating him. Being a PR treat with a hideous mouth full of teeth that never gets put away should only take someone so far. Liam Lawson could beat him easily as would Ollie Bearman and many others. "I desperately hope Daniel does better..." is exactly what you said when he was struggling at McLaren. Nice guy? Does Cyril think he is a nice guy? Took the money and ran. And F1 should be about performance not who is a better self promoter. I would also be interested to know who those who are not 'nice guys' are.
I know you’ll give a non biased assessment of Alonso even though he wasn’t your favourite driver while you were both at McLaren…. As for RBR & Mercedes the amount of speculation surrounding a seat there for him.. does anybody know the real truth behind it all.. ? Dan is gone - Marko will fly back from china on the same plane as Dan, a large stack of money will be offered to Dan for him to step aside and let the more sponsor friendly better qualifier LL Cool Jandal into his seat ASAP. Dan has lost the ability to qualify. His smooth style keeps constant load on a tyre so when it overheats he is stuffed... All he can do, is save tyres, and take a place or two at the end. Its not enough. He doesn't do enuff early on in a stint. Its over Dan.
Short answer. That one I disagree with Newey. One example. Football. There's a somewhat FFP at play a soft cost cap. Non of the Leagues Premier league, La Liga, etc. Are really short on finding talent. I mean MLS has one and it sort of does. I mean most American sports have them and it works. The problem is with MLS unlike the other USA sports league they can marketed the best. MLS can't cause it isn't a vacuum like the rest cause it faces foreign leagues that are far better than the MLS unlike the rest. I mean bringing Messi helps, but they do need to fix the rules for that.
I think in the examples you mentioned you’re talking about the players. But here we’re talking about the engineers working behind the F1 teams. I would imagine engineers will have options outside of F1, whereas football players will have less outside of their field. So may be a valid point that F1 could lose their talent to another industries.
