I love this test!!! Keep up the great towing torture tests on this hill TFL!!! I enjoy this more than the Gauntlet. This type of towing environment is why I sold my F150 (which I loved) and bought a HD Ram 2500 Cummins. We towed our toy hauler (which was within the capacity of my F150) up into the mountains to go camping on very similar roads and my F150 transmission would overheat everytime and the truck struggled with power. It was a very stressful towing experience. The Cummins chews this stuff up and nothing gets warm or upset and I never lack power. When people say their half ton can handle their travel trailer or toy hauler just fine. They've probably never towed through roads or conditions like this. Most people may not know that li-ion cells charge up to 4.2v (or less depending on what the mfr calls 100%), and are only used down to about 3v. As voltage decreases for the same power output, the amperage has to increase to maintain the same power P = I (current) * E (voltage). Amperage (current) is what creates heat, both when discharging the batteries going up hill, and then charging them going down hill. I would say the Lightning passed the battery cooling test with flying colors. Well done Ford.

Would be interesting to graph the various temp sensors to a GPS trail on a map. Would be very interesting to do this on two runs. Automatic, let the computer change gears and manually changing gears. Graph those on the GPS trail too. Like all trucks when pulling heavy loads shifting constantly kills them fast.

I like this test better than the Ike and I say it every time you all do this test that this is a much tougher test on the trucks than the Ike. The slow speeds and excessive transmission shifting is what makes it tough. It’s definitely extreme. As for the two trucks, well neither are truly ideal for this type of usage. The Silverado is better suited to it but day in and day out of this would require an HD. The Lightning and just EVs in general are not ready for usage like this. You probably couldn’t even do this test with it if you had to tow the trailer from your office to this location and regardless of what EV fans think or say that is a huge deal breaker for traditional truck usage.

Kyle actually showed how carrying maximum payload was super easy, it’s aerodynamics and battery capacity that is the truck’s Achilles Heel. I know you get so tired of viewers wanting to see over and over how bad range becomes when towing. I appreciate you showing us the variety of things it can do when range is not an issue.

For difficult, tough, short range jobs like farming, local hauling and towing, GET THE LIGHTNING. For jobs that require distance of over 150 miles, GET THE ICE F150.
