in an era of desensitized audiences and "have seen it all" attitudes, one show brings back the magic star trek was, it understands its times, its humour and its message, this should be canon
Franz Haas hey everybody don't think he doesn't listen to the fans don't think he doesn't monitor Twitter or Facebook or Instagram or SnapChat don't think he don't he do so I can see where you starting to modify and tone down his family guy persona in every episode that's good that means he's listening and we got to do our part to make sure the ratings are up.
Space....The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Orville. Its continuing mission: To continue the sci-fi adventures inspired by Gene Roddenberry's visions. To seek first contact with new civilizations while having lots of fun. To boldly go where no Star Treks have gone before!!
" I am happy!" A person denied participation in society even though they saw and they struggled and wanted to b part of it and was denied. Bc ppl who loved them made them feel they were just as worthy as everyone else to have a life. Ur parents did good. And u stand up and show everyone without shame u r just as worthy to have the same.. 👍 a warrior who is proud and unashamed and no hate in their heart. That is a Saint.
You gotta love that The Orville is more _progressive_ than Star Trek Discovery was. Because really, that's what this episode was. It was an episode calling for people to be people and not be determined by others. And that's what I love about The Orville. Clever writing, fun and interesting characters that we like, and a very open mind.
Reminds me of the Religious practice of Circumcision - Christian, Jewish and Islamic - when the child is either new born or still young rather then letting the person reach maturity and make the choice for themselves. Should that happen then hope for the people will be that much closer. Take care and stay well.
@F P your opinion. And there's and old saying about opinions being like a- holes. Discovery is very action oriented but it is still Star Trek (admittedly with very stupid looking klingons) and has some amazing characters and character arcs. Orville is funny, and I'll admit it has some very New Generation vibes, but it can be a little too slapstick for my tastes. But as someone who has been a fan of Star Trek since the original, Discovery has become my favorite Trek.
@@55Quirll circumscision for no religious reasons is more of a US thing, there you have Latin America with millions of Christians yet circumscision is not a thing
@@DisentDesign Orville is a betwean SNG and SG1. Mortus is a cross betwean SNG Worf and SG1 Tealc. Seth piched his idea to the owners of Starteck for a show that would give Star treck fans what they want which is a show like SNG, they said no and made STD instead which rips off Battle star Galacticer and Stargate Universe with its dark undertones. Orville is what Treck fans wanted.
@@DisentDesign Its not the greatest Sci Fi show ever, who said that? I didn't, but it is howerver a show which follows or copys what made SNG, DS9, STV and SG1 and SGA so popular and is no surprise that fans of those shows like The Orville. Had Starteck Discovery is trash with its stupid female domination crap. In STD (lol STD wtf?) It's not untill episode 3 that we see a strong man because there to busy pushing Michel the female Dude captains power. The Orville has many actors from those 5 shows I mention which is another reason people like the show.
Ygor Nimoy true, but you forgot to account the Macfarlane factor. So honestly the fate of the series is up in the air for me. As long as it isn’t moved to the Friday night death slot.
Its not going to get canceled even though other posters are saying there is a higher risk with Fox. Youll see. the FanBase, Merchandise potential, and evidence it will be one of the late bloomers in popularity will all prevent fox from canceling this series. Star Trek didnt do too well to reruns in the 70s and Seth needs to explain to Fox that there is indication this will grow on people later on. the Fanbase is too powerful and would advocate not canceling it which causes the Late Bloomer and Merchandise Potential factors of Money-Making. . . . Shows get renewed if their ratings are bad but the FanBase Advocates for them I think the worse cancelation tragity in history was NoWhere Man being cancelled on UPN NoWhereman is The Third Greatest TV Series, to Orville and the three 1990s star treks opf which deep space nine was the best. the Nowhere Man Pilot has been called the best pilot for a TV series ever. Nowhere Man is up on youtube, go watch it & Thank Me later for the heads up about this Series
Space....The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Orville. Its continuing mission: To continue the sci-fi adventures inspired by Gene Roddenberry's visions. To seek first contact with new civilizations while having lots of fun. To boldly go where no 'Nu Trek' has gone before!!
@@55Quirll Thanks. Bonus point if the intro line is read by Sir Patrick Stewart (who's playing the Union Chief of Admiralty). That would've been so awesome!! :)
@@dc_world2829 Aliens smoking cigarettes is actually very Trek, the only differene is that actual Star Trek is much less whitewashed and "cleansed" for television audiences. Orville is what Trek might have been without decades of executive meddling.
Original Star Trek fought with NBC for its entire run. It managed to last 3 years with inadequate funding and strong criticisms. 50 years later we all still love the show and it has had a lasting impact on our culture. I would be surprised - though pleasantly so - to see Orville do anything remotely close. But it does have that potential.
It's a sign of a great show and talented writers that some of the strongest and most impactful character moments in this show have come from the joke characters. In the pilot, Bortus is set up to be the butt of most jokes, and in fairness that does happen quite often with him offering pithy comments about absurd moments or the rest of the crew trying to get him to crack his unflappable mien - to say nothing of the big, obvious gay jokes - but then we get episodes like this one and several more in Season 2 that makes Bortus, Klyden and the Moclan race in general that shows how serious the writers are taking the material, despite the crude humor and weird anachronisms.
Damn, I'm reminded time and time again from these clips just how heavy this show gets! You expect, "Oh, just a comedy spoof of Star Trek. No big deal." Then BAM! The geopolitical landscape of a warrior race of aliens is toppled by the revelation of one of their greatest philosophers, was of a class that they looked down upon!
the pilot kinda started being a bit like spaceballs sort of comedy, and then suddenly, we got these by ep 3, futiristic stories with contemporary content hidden within and which are great fun to watch
I'm exploding with pride at seeing a Maori wahine deliver these lines. Rena Owen is an absolute hero of mine, she has mana for days. This means so much.
Seth did a good job some what allowing us to see a different perspective on the LGBTQ community. We all bleed the same blood. Vote those who go against our fellow brothers and sisters. Love each other for we only have each other to rely on.
I have so many friends that are trans. Please take note that we are all human beings. The far right will try to convince you other wise the far left would want to change your way of thinking. It’s up to you to come to the conclusion that we are equal. We all bleed the same blood. We need to learn to love each other. For we only have each other to rely on.
I'm hooked on this. I'm also glad Seth has gotten the right mix of comedy and feels after the pilot. No big laser battles, jaunty camera angles, shit exploding everywhere.. I'm back in the ballpark of drooling over the damned ship doing a flyby and warp out. Sorry.. quantum jump. Also is that actress the female shapeshifter? How can I fund this to make sure it continues? no direct viewing source outside of the USA :(
Fox are broadcasting it in the UK at some point - so won't be on any of the FTA channels but it will be on cable/satellite. Plus there's a certain footwear-named site that it can be viewed on, but that doesn't help it's financial success!
Yes she seems like the female shapesifter , real close but think its someone else -- Ithink you shouldnt have avoided putting Star Trek: Orville in the Title, 2 reasons, because now as i show this to other people not familier with the program, i have to tell them to ignore the title, that the show is called The Orville and that the person made the title like that. 2nd reason lets not give fox any grief over any possible CBS vs FOX stuff where they bring up in court something like "look the fans even seen it as startrek, look at what this person titled their youtube" CBS use of it or something, hah. I grew up to TNG and it raised me with intelligent TV. I saw all the star trek series, the best one is clearly deep space nine. The Orville is SUper good and i knew seth could do this,... its too new to compared to star trek series rankings and in goodness, but i will say #1 deep space nine is easily the best star trek and anyone who says otherwise has strange perceptions and #2 Orville is Super Fantastic
I may not agree with Seth on everything but I cannot deny his accomplishments and this is certainly one of them, a big one. I’d toast to that once teenager who used to write and film his own Star Trek stories, then in time he befriended some of our heroes, even joined them together once again for an episode of another TV series of his... man don’t you get tired of being this successful? I hope not!
Just love the title of your video. "Last time on Star Trek: Orville", I can almost hear the voice of Lwaxana Troi saying it. (Majel Barrett-Roddenberry 1932-2008) What the heck Rod? Why aren't you with us? Ditch CBS and come work with Orville.
When i first saw the trailer i think, these guys just making a Fox one season comedy series and will totally wasting the concept. But come on! Star Trek was the first really awesome science fiction show witch influence lots of great products Aliens to Star Wars itself. But in here 2017 when people stop believe anything, even the fact that Earth orbiting the Sun! This series is a heir of the legacy of the Star Trek, an enlightened idea. And like the spin-offs had a really different tone like the TOS, this also welcome the fact that this is the 21st century. Seth may be sells this show to Fox like a comedy series, but believe Me this hardly serious!
I fucking love this jidge, he obviously still has a bias but he doesnt allow that to be a hinderence to his objectiveness. we need more judges like that. facts are facts
I came here originally to jump the original poster that the Orville is not Star Trek...but then he posts probably the single greatest scene of either series...Well, you shut me up, I bow.
Watching this scene again after last night’s The Orville: New Horizons. Gotta enjoy Topa taking in the words of Haveena and how she, as a child, should not be altered at birth and given the choice to live as she chooses.
When I watched the first two episodes I thought this was going to be a funny si fi comedy, but this episode showed me this show was more, I love this show and I really want more
from what i know, most of the best star trek writers flocked to work on Orville its no surprise the best stories of star trek you find them in The Orville. this clip explains it all
"Progressive" ideology presented in an unusual way for current times, with ENTERTAINING FLARE, POETRY AND DRAMA. Well done! And take note lefties...persuasiveness.
Exactly a lot of “progressives” don’t talk about issues they preach and then the belittle people or they force there ideals down peoples throats my dad who is a centralist but definitely right leaning loves the Orville because it talks about issues but in a way that’s not condescending my mother when she was alive was very right leaning and she loved the show just like how she loved Star Trek
This is a very creative way to comment on forcing a baby to have the gender you think they should have- it applies to intersex kids whose genitals are altered for no good reason, and it applies to trans kids who are denied the support to transition socially and/or with medical supervision because their parents hate the “woke agenda”. It does what all good sci fi should do- forces us to question our prejudices, examine our culture, and admire art.
Love Rena Owen, this was a perfect cameo for her. Recommend watching her in 'Once Were Warriors' just be warned, it has graphic domestic violence, Rena will make you cry
Even though I don't like The Orville the ship it self is a fabulous design I would be surprised to see it soon in one of your amazing animations if you would like to do it but I am not forcing you so good luck
There should be an Orville/Star Trek crossover. The Union would probably see the Federation as backwards, and I would pay so much money to see a Moclan and a Klingon meet.
The Orville still has the modern-day sarcasm and snarkiness that STD tries so hard and desperately to copy while still being a Star Trek show at it's core
Mmmmm, very thought provoking. Yet, just such a thing has happened here, too, not merely on Earth, but in the UK. The now-respected Bronte sisters had to publish their early works under male pseudonyms, as writing, especially novel writing, was thought to be a a man's job, and not something a woman should undertake. I know that Anne Bronte used to release her work under the name of 'Acton Bell': the other two sisters were also Bells, but I can't recall what first names they used. The idea that a woman had to use a male pseudonym to get her work published might seem strange to us these days, but in all honesty, it wasn't that long ago. It is something to remember, as we stride into the future, that we are demanding changes in cultural perceptions and opinions at break neck speed... and that, sometimes, insisting on such rapid changes can cause violent backlashes.
If she spent her whole life in seclusion up in the mountains, how did her writing works end up published in regular Moclan society, even under a male nom de plume? Did her parents take them to a publisher? I guess that means her last book published must have been before their deaths.
There's a reason this show is the spiritual successor to Star Trek. Somewhere, a while ago, Star Trek lost it's way. But Seth McFarlane managed to pick up the torch. Let's hear it for Season 4!
I dont know if anyone else noticed, but the aliens lips don't match their words, but the humans lips do. Its like the aliens are speaking another language and we only 'hear' their translated words (grandmother was deaf, I learned a little lip reading from her,)
