May I say a Dad of twins daughters , I'm so in love with your family and the support and the time and support you have given her thru the years . She has made Old men Fan's of the ladies that play Basketball . I will always follow Caitlin Clark until the day it's over for me . She will continue to brake records . Thanks to Caitlin , but Thanks to MOM & DAD for such a gift to woman's Sports .
@david Her dad Brent was her first coach when she was 5. He didn't put up with her tears then, and he doesn't put up with her complaining now, but he is proud of her, and how hard she has worked to reach the level she has. She learned she had to be tough playing against her brothers and cousins as a young girl, and she was hitting shots that none of the boys were. There were no programs for young girls where they lived, and because he saw something special in her, they moved to Des Moines where she still played with boys and was better than they were. She began playing AAU ball in either 5th or 6th grade, playing against high school girls, and continued to play against older and more experienced players until college. Before her freshman year in college, she was on an under 19 team, playing internationally, alongside Hailey Van Lith and Paige Bueckers. She and Hailey were roommates for the entire time, and they brought home the gold medals from Thailand. Her star continues to shine, but if they are going to get through the sweet 16 and beyond, everyone on the team is going to have to step up again or Iowa will be done. They beat Colorado a year ago at this same level, so hopefully they can do it again.
I've heard so many people complaning about sketchy ref calls on this game. Then I watch this and it's like...the refs called it right. West virginia was fouling like a mfer
lets talk about the refs getting it right.... going to the tape to see if the ball goes to white , hmmm what about the steps that white took with the ball before the ball went flying out of bounds... is walking / eurosteps okay within the last two minutes of the game, I'm new to Womens basketball... Now if you are right on the refs why was Kaitlin driving the lane with her arm out clearing the way (If only men's basketball or Pete Maravich had such lead way to drive the lanes) but hey allow me to watch a little bit more o9f the tape , it just started ... I did watch the game live and felt 30 -5 ratio was a little out of balanced since West Virginia was driving to the hop , but a second look may clear things up... Iowa had great fans that night and it was there night ... Maybe the better team won but West Virginia looked pretty good to me...
@magicray5088 you are looking at this with extreme bias if you're saying they missed a call because you think there should be a travel called on someone that has lost possession of the ball lol
@@magicray5088 no one really had possession of the ball when she was "traveling." I thought that the same as you until they showed the replay in this video.
the defensive foul call on WV at 46.4 (4:20) was a bad call. The defender was playing amazing defense, Clark tried to turn the opposite way and ran right into the defenders torso. This is the definition of an offensive foul from the rule book. "Charging is illegal personal contact by pushing or moving into an opponent’s torso." The foul call at 9:14 was pretty sketchy too.
Hey 6:33 miss announcer that was an intentional foul against Hannah look at her feet and when the arms got entangled.WV Moore meant to hurt her. Unnecessary roughness.
At 0:21 number 33 intentionally did it the first time. Same dangerous take-down method endangered Hannah's head and major joints both times. IMO #33 should have been ejected for a flagrant foul both times. The announcers tend to minimize these kinds of offenses; nothing to see here. If #33 had been ejected, WV and its fans would have screamed that the refs decided the game, not the players. So Hannah's health and safety became secondary.
@@karlk9316 solid points but it is also really hard to make the case that was a flagrant worth ejecting. You can't unequivocally see intent in this instance.
@@jakehouser1975 y’all are actually crazy stuelke straight up shoved wvu players to the floor three times before that play then she hooked the wvu players arm and pulled her down to the ground just because she’s the one that took the brunt of the fall doesn’t mean she was the one that was fouled she initiated the hooking than pulled her down to the ground she should’ve been called for a flagrant and yet they called it on wvu and that wasn’t even the first time that one of Iowas players hooked a wvu players arm there was one time that jj quinerly had her ark hooked and held onto blatantly and the person who hooked her arm started to turn like she was straight up trying to break it
Not good at sports -- never have been. Not a sports fan -- don't attend games, don't watch sports , until recently, on television. But I've discovered the best entertainment: the Iowa Woman's Basketball Team, all great players. Caitlin Clark is the Annie Oakley of our century. Thank goodness for Title Nine. I'm enjoying the evolving idea of what "womanhood" means .
5:56.. Right before Stuelke is dragged to the floor, watch for the "backfist" by WV 00 that nearly takes Caitlin Clarks head off. Stuelke was taken to the floor MULTIPLE times with no call? The officiating in this game was atrocious. WV has a tough defense I'll give them that, but the amount of no calls by the refs was beyond me. Letting the players play is a common statement, but then what is the point of having them on the court? Someone is going to get seriously hurt, this is BASKETBALL NOT MMA assholes.
West Virginia has been winning games with a 'pokey' style of in your face defense all year long. Stop everyone acting so surprised that they had a ton of fouls. I also don't appreciate them being labeled as Thugs. It's their style of play and has gotten them very far with a good record. Kudos to Iowa for being gritty and pulling this one out.
@@johnmcmahon8294 trust me, Iowa didn't get a favor. I understand Clark's frustrations as I think it's a lot of game plans for teams to be very physical with her, even foul her, get in her head a little bit. She did a better job of not complaining this game. And she's not perfect, in the first round game she complained too much. WVU was some of the best defense Iowa had seen all year. It was some of the most physical. This was an excellent experience for what Iowa needed down the stretch. Mad respect for WVU. They came, they executed their game plan. They were within striking distance.
@@deependguitar777 what’re you talking about stuelke straight up shoved our players to the ground in three separate occasions and then hooked one of their arms and pulled her to the ground stuelke was the one playing bully ball out there and that’s not even mentioning the many times wvu players were shoved in the back during layups and not getting called
You Need to re watch that play. Iowa girl had wv's arm under her arm and drug WV down. They even reviewed the call because they were going to try to get a flagrant out of it but when they seem that they were wrong they couldn't take the fire away so they changed it to a common
If Hannah actually had a hold of her arm like you say, don’t you think she would’ve let go as they were falling so that her face didn’t hit the ground like it did?!
As an Iowa fan, I don’t see the problem with how West Virginia played. They play a very aggressive defenses that was not “thug” like. Yes common fouls happen, but not much overly aggressive play. Hanna is an athletic 4, not a true center. She doesn’t do well with physical centers. Not her fault, Iowa needs a real center in this offense. Colorado is physical. If we win ucla and LSU are very physical. And Cardozo (if we win) after that…..the Shaq of women’s basketball. Go Hawks! Let/s stay classy folks.
As a proud West Virginia resident, I disagree. As least two times, in the last two minutes, a player was slammed to the floor. In the second one, the fouled player was clearly seen on video, being wrapped up so as to prevent a safe landing. That is most definitely thug like ! BRAVO to the Iowa Hawkeyes !!
This game was tied at 52 with 2 minutes left in the game, after that it was a parade to the free throw line. Iowa shot 30 free throws, West Virginia shot 5. You're not going to be nobody when the free throw disparity is 6 to 1.
I don’t have a horse in this race at all - just a fan of the game - but I do not think that WVU “got hosed by the refs” at all. Consider this- WV averages 19 fouls per game, that’s a lot.. and, that’s an average- meaning they’ve had plenty of games this season with over 20 fouls. Take a look at their loss to OU, where the Sooners shot like 30 free throws. Quite simply- this is how they play their game. It seemed pretty obvious from the opening whistle that they were going to take their normal defense (19 fouls per game) up a notch to try and fluster Clark… and it did! Actually a really good strategy against a high scoring team. The problem with this style is when you don’t hit shots, and your opponent is in the bonus late. WV went cold and then had to use 4 fouls just to stop the clock. Iowa made their free throws. WV not making shots, but giving Iowa high percentage free throws. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. Overall I’d say that there were a couple of bad calls both ways. But not an “inside job” as people suggest. If WV getting called for more fouls than their opponent is somehow nefarious- then you’d have to believe the officials we’re ‘out to get them’ during 28 games this season. And that’s just not true either. WV had a good gameplan, it worked well - until it didn’t. But it was a consequence of their strategy and poor shooting, not a “screw job.” Best of luck to both teams in the future.
Same tune, same WVU bitchin' and moanin' a month ago when KState had 31 free throw attempts and WVU had 8. Last I checked Caitlin Clark doesn't play for KState. Stop crying. Stop fouling. Learn to shoot. Also, those last 5 fouls by WVU were totally legit calls...it's called strategy. Iowa made their free throws. Hold the L.
Like I said it didn’t matter to me who won this game. I just disagree that officiating should be blamed - as massive foul numbers have been WV’s calling card all season. It’s their strategy, and like the 80s/90s pistons - it had success. Problem is WV doesn’t have an Isiah Thomas or Joe Dumars. They didn’t make the shots when they needed to. Also not being said is that WV held a significant size advantage in the post. Yet- all game they settled for jump shots, and were out rebounded.
FWIW i watched the game, i watched the previous game that WVU played against Princeton, they (WVU) play a hectic scrambling game but they are not under enough control in their frenetic pace of play. they foul way too much, frankly had the game against Princeton not been called very loose they wouldn't have survived that game. im guessing thats the style of play that coach is teaching ,and when i was coaching i worked under a very similar manner but hands have to come from underneath, they reach straight in too much to be successful trapping unless the ref's swallow the whistle. going back and reviewing this footage i didn't see anything that was called that was "ticky-tack" and this favored WVU, only "no call" i found surprising was in the very beginning and frankly the call would have gone against WVU in that had it been whistled as typically this type of situation far more frequently gets called on the offensive player. WVU potentially could be one of the best defending teams in the tourney, but they have a few fundamental issues to overcome in order to be truly special rather than just really good.
That OB review was not a tough one. The ball was dropping and then changed directions. Their was no need to call a classical physics expert to analyze the phenomena.
0:37 How many pivot feets are people allowed nowadays? When I played in grade school and as a freshman in high school, we were allowed only one pivot foot.
I have no idea how people are saying Stuelke grabbed the WVU player. If you look at 5:54 you get to watch the WVU player hook Stuelke's arm in real time before they all get smashed together. The arguing is ridiculous. Disgusting foul there. They kept kicking the crap out of poor Stuelke.
My thoughts exactly... and it's basically all sports, men's and women's. Last 2 minutes is like 3 or 4 timeouts per team plus 10 commercial breaks on top of that. They need to settle that fuck down with that shit. It's why I can't even watch live broadcasts anymore.
If anyone honestly watching this game in its entirety OBJECTIVELY will see that the foul discrepancy was called correctly. West Virginia was the more aggressive team defensively and the referees called it correctly. Sure, some calls got missed on Iowa but I also counted at MINIMUM 10 or 12 more calls that were missed on West Virginia. WV put Iowa in the bonus early and it cost them.
I keep wondering why the broadcasters think we want their opinion on fouls or other ref decisions in games. They have created the attitude that the refs are incompetent and deserve their second guesses. Shame on ESPN for this type of broadcasting in basketball and football.
Unfortunately, the pool to choose from for refs is extremely small and limited. So yeah, a good portion are going to end up being incompetent and making blatantly terrible calls. Especially with the superiority complex the majority of them carry because of people like you who worship them and their calls.
Clark is great but without her Iowa is probably a .500 team, and she seems to be wearing down. West Virginia provided the blueprint for how to stop them defensively - they just didn't have enough scorers to win the game on offense. Hard to see Iowa sticking around too much longer looking at their bracket.
West Virginia proved that if your team plays basketball like a hockey team, your team will get into foul trouble and Caitlin Clark shows that she is excellent from the free throw line as well.
@@user-io9dl5uh1r Its called defense, it is part of the game. Iowa was rescued by white knight refs. WVU proved that if you play defense, you can beat Iowa. The Big 10 plays no defense and that is why Clark gets all of those points with no one guarding her. Put her in the Big 12. The above post was most likely posted by another white knight feminist.
WVA is a DAMN GOOD TEAM. Wow! I did not realize how good they were. The ONLY THING that will save the WNBA is if these players REPLACE the ridiculous "talent" currently in that league. The WNBA now operates as a "private political club" that FORCES OUT all the young good TALENT. TIME TO REBUILD THAT FAILING JOKE OF A LEAGUE
Why would you foul Caitlin Clark in a tight game? Make her pass and foul someone not as good at free throws. You definitely won't win with Clark at the line.
I'm all for aggressive n hard play but seemed like WV actually tried to play like they were on the outside courts in the Bronx in not in a BB arena. In WVs game before this they had over twenty fouls n now this game too. Not a look that ya want representing your school, comes across as thuggish.
Iowa’s Moore basically tackled one of wvu’s players to the floor twice and then in a different play hooked her arm and pulled her to the ground and yet the wvu player was called for a foul and just in the fourth I seen Iowa players shove wvu players in the back on three different layup attempts and none of them were called and Iowa players were hacking the shit out of any wvu played that tried to drive the lane the entire game why do you think wvu shot 13 more three pointers than they average because they knew that if they didn’t they’d get hacked and not get a foul call open your eyes because Iowa was the one that was playing bully ball I honestly thought that most of the game was reffed pretty well but the fourth was awful Iowa made one shot in the fourth and didn’t make a free throw until after the game was tied then they made 14 free throws all after the 4:46 mark and only 2 of them were to stop the clock at the end of the game so don’t say anything about that
@@jacobbailey9773you could literally she her grab the WV player while she was jumping then you could see her arm flexing while she was pulling her down. The NCAA and Vegas weren’t going to let their cash cow great white hope lose
The coach for WV needs to take responsibility for the fact he creates this monster by encouraging them to foul almost every, single play while betting the odds, that ref's will not call them all. Clear as day, you can see foul, after foul, after foul by WV that isn't called. Often seeing in replay, like 3 going on at the same time. And not just bs touch fouls, but swinging, smacking, hitting, jabbing, etc. He needs a better strategy than foul, foul, foul, shoot. He's gonna lose all respect and that kind of crap won't carry them far. We all see the playbook now and just wait till they smash up against a bigger, more physical team who has their number. Kind of sad really, he should foster fundamentals and better foot work vs just, hit and swing.
Terrible call. Hook and grab, fall to the ground intentionally dragging your opponent to the ground. Lady announcers don't know jack. That's a flagrant 1, read the rules.
Dude I have noticed the same thing, always has kids between them. My best guess is the wife's reactions stress the dad out, so they put a bit of distance between the two.
Man please with your Bs. Iowa players were elbowing and pushing players in the back. The referees cheating for them. The first quarter Iowa was getting beat. Until the referees stepped in. The ref won the game for Iowa.
I'm so sick of watching Iowa the Refs handed this game to Iowa look at the free throws and the non calls on Iowa . Neutral court Iowa would have lost. Refs were a disgrace.
I’m watching game but seems to me the refs did good job..maybe not great. But I’m going guess the complainers are fans of the losers..I’m a longhorn fan but iowas opponent wasn’t up to the task. Simple as that..
There's a reason wv has players in foul trouble it's called back off and they should have had more fouls they got by with. Iowa gets a travel call when players are down on the floor but when WV is on the floor with the ball no call.
Boy, you two are just dripping with jealousy. If either one of you had even one tenth of CC talent, you still wouldn't know what to do with it, as it is the only talent you two seem to have is showing your jealousy at not having the talent or attention that CC gets and has, losers
@@kenclifford5556 Yep, and that was the right call. You can hate her all you want. But W Virginia lost that game on their own. It's ridiculous to say the refs won the game for them.
WVU was crying a month ago when KState had 31 free throw attempts and WVU had 8. Last I checked Caitlin Clark doesn't play for KState. Learn to shoot, 54 points ain't gonna cut it.
Please GOD...fire Beth Mowens. She is the most biased, IOWA hating sorts announcer I have ever been subjected too. We had to listen to her drivel the entire game.
Kaitlin's dads face tells the story of the game , its like when Ohio State used fives flags in a row to beat Miami Hurricanes for a national Championship in 2002, the Big 10 got the win but nobody wants to talk about the great victory buy Ohio State .... I am surprised the big 10 will allow this to be up much longer ... Iowa got the win and years down the road nobody will remember how it went down..... its not the first time calls during the last minutes of game gave the victory to one side ... it is what it is ... Kaitlin Clark is a great player and I am glad she left Iowa with a win...
@user-hb6ot5vf1i no… all them FALSE FILES did. They didn’t call an obvious file Clark had. The Hawkeyes only win against these teams with REF HELP… and privilege of course…. Y’all girl is good but not THAT GOOD! USC WILL WHOOP THEM AGAIN
These 2nd round games are really a tough draw for visiting teams! Especially places like Iowa and S Carolina, ain’t no way your beating C Clark or her home floor! Bunch of homers for officials also!
Which tackle? The one where the WVU player clearly pulls her down or the one where the WVU player hooks and holds the Iowa player? Both of those are CLEAR fouls on WVU and it isn’t EVEN CLOSE. One got called, one didn’t!
GTFO of here with that racist crap. That's a good basketball team with great defense and they played how their coach taught them, with passion and aggression. Nearly won them the game.
The refs blowing the game in front of the world is no good for the game. The last 5 minutes of this game was horribly officiated. Right is right and Wrong is Wrong. Just sad
How does the last 2 mins take 14 min to make this video . Oh , I know , I watched it . Not for the game but to watch CC’ s dads fascial expression when she cry’s
5-14 is great the trailer park's volume chucking won out again. It's only a matter of time Iowa isn't a good team definitely should've added a few better players from the portal last off season. Then they would've take some shots away from trailer park highlighting her inefficient play.
those refs sucked they were good in the first half but then they just started calling dumb fouls like under the hoop when stuelke and Moore got tangled up like that was nether of their faults👎 refs
The officiating in women’s basketball is as poor as is the athleticism of the great majority of the players. The skill required to play good basketball is beyond the ability of most females. If the officials called every foul in the games, they would foul out both teams by halftime.
