Worked absolutely perfectly as described in this video. I had not used a pop rivet gun since the late 70's when I attached a piece of sheet metal to the rotted rear quarter panel of my 66 Mustang :) Had to purchase a rivet gun and some 5/32 X 1/4" rivets - $20 cost and less than 10 minutes and my sagging door problem was fixed to perfection - even added a little dab of grease to the door pins to make them work super smooth and quiet - Thanks so much for this post!!

This video was definitely a time/money saver. I had to go buy a rivet gun for the job, and at my local Harbour Freight, they had a rivet gun and rivet set for $5.40 (after tax). Worked great. I used the 5/32" rivet in the pre-drilled holes and it too me about 5 minutes to do the job. My first time using a rivet gun and it was definitely a success.

Thanks for suggesting Harbor Freight. Went to Lowes spent $32 then wen to Harbor Freight. $9, so the Lowe's rivet gun went back!! 🙂

Thanks man. i have the exact same model microwave. Only the bottom hinge point had broken loose on my microwave, and I had to have my wife hold the bottom hinge with pliers while I installed the rivet. Worked like a champ!

Drew Williams I just used 3/16 wide and 1/2” long. The 1/4 were to short and I had to drill them out. I can’t emphasize enough that you need to line up the holes, there’s another piece of metal that the connects the hinges you need to get the rivet into. I just fixed my microwave for $15. Really appreciate videos like this!

Thanks so much for this video. Like many others I had exactly the same microwave and problem that you did. Was sure that at the least, I would have to find a way to get my microwave out, and would probably have to replace it. Instead, once I got my first rivet gun, it was a 10 minute fix. Update. Take off the bottom vent hood. And your hinge should fall right out lol.

I was on the verge of going to Lowes to buy a new microwave oven, I decided to check out RU-vid to see if there was video on a similar problem that's when I ran across your video , I went to Harbor Freight bought a rivet gun including rivets for $4.95. 30 minutes later problem solved. Thanks you saved me at least 200-300 dollars.

This is a great video. Thank you. Rarely do I find a video for the exact appliance that I have. I would only mention that folks need to know to disconnect appliances before working on them. I was watching a prior video where the path to the hinges is much more complicated. Technician recommended using needle nose, pliers to reduce shock. In the capacitor before working on the microwave. I don’t know if any of that applies here. Just thought I’d mention it. Thanks again for the great video.

This works, just make sure the rivet is thin enough to also fit through the second whole behind the first whole. Test it's stability first before cranking it in, to make sure it went through both holes.

Totally worked! only the top rivet broke too high leaving a small protrusion, so had to remove the plastic blocker from inside( didn’t close otherwise).

Thanks! That was so easy. Of course I had 1/8 and 3/16 rivets but no 5/32 so I drilled the hole out to 3/16 and used one of them. The top was good for now but if it fails I know how to fix it.

OMG your entire kitchen decor, cabinet, oven, microwave are same as mine. Thanks for the video anyway, I just saved couple hundreds. Update: the best fit of rivet for my model is 5/32" , after two trips back and forth to the Ace and Harbor freight stores. Make sure you measure the hole diameter before you buy rivet combo.

Great suggestion. I was concerned that the rivet sticking out a bit from the bracket may interfere with the door operation, but it appears to be fine.

I always forget that I have rivets. Thanks. I was about to search for screws to fix the door. FYI, you need a long shaft Rivet. The ones I used first were too short to grab that back panel. I used 1/8 Diameter x 1/2" shaft length.

no screws cannot be used. a rivet is a special device.

I was about to use wide, short sheet metal screws but questioned using any metal that might cause sparking or heat up when microwaving something. The fit looks good, considering the small gap i might go with your rivet method. Do you have any problems with sparks or heat from th we repair? Like are the rivets warm or hot after running the microwave?

you need the largest rivet size which will still fit thru the hole. maybe 1/8 but that's just a guess.

It looked so easy to pop off the hinge guard as you did. Mine is bending a bit. Any trick getting it to pop. Direction or. Got the HF gun, ready to fix.
