In this video we are comparing the knights and common soldiers of the Early and late part of HYW For the Early armies i am using Claymore Castings and some 1st Corps and for the Later armies Perry Miniatures.
I would consider early up to the 1360-70's with a transition period leading to the later part probably after 1400's
At the End I have two photos showing how armies from those two different periods look when deployed in Mass.

Very good focus on the differences. I somewhere read, that the equipment of the normal footsoldiers didn´t change much from the 12th until the15th century. These minatures are a good example for that.

Thank my friend! Yes that was my aim to show and explain that the bigger part of the army looked almost the same with maybe the odd part of a plate armour they would salvage after a battle and use. It would be a good subject for a chat for sure! Thank you for watching my friend!

Thank you dear Jim! Yes i thought that seeing them in parallels would be interesting understanding the development of the armour and weapons within only a few decades..

Very educational Nik! I love these kinds of videos. You always do a great job parting this knowledge off to us. Thank you for that! I have a soft spot for the early Hundred Years War. I find the battles of Crecy and Poitiers speak to me more than say Agincourt does. I am reading Bernard Cornwell's Grail trilogy and they are about to fight the battle of Crecy.

Thank you dear Nordic! Yes we both are funs of the early part..;) Great book the battle of Crecy is described so well you feel you are on the battlefield! Thank you for watching my friend!

You are quite welcome. I definitely like the earlier period more than the later. Cornwell does do a great job describing battles. @@MedievalWargamer

Very pretty. I would suggest you use a felt marker to colour the white edges that show on your standards,

Almost certain there would be a mix of both! Armour was expensive, I would suggest it was passed down, father to son example. Archers would of course take anything they found from the dead, including chainmail.

yes you are correct Henry many knights used their fathers armour. Not all the knights and nobles could afford the latest Italian armor except the really high ranked ones... Thank you for watching my friend!

What is your favourite period? In some ways the infantry don't really change much? The reduction in the use of shields seems to be the main difference.

Hi John long time no speak my friend! As i mention in the video at some point although i love all let us say periods of the HYW i have a soft spot for the Early part...Characters- Battles and the Claymore miniatures i think turn the scale.. a bit not much...Yes with both your points i agree and i think that was the case! Thank you for watching my friend!
