Curt, it is task for myself to tackle to OEM bedsides hopefully this 2023. This is my second time going on this truck as my son found it, started it and I knew nothing. I have a 67 C10 long bed with wood and these take exactly 100 carriage bolts inside the bed. Seven years ago, I had never heard of Evercoat filler. Now, I have been researching paint and the chemistry that changes quickly. I started one beside with a complete skim coat to sand to shape, and my son went off the deep end, getting mad at me. I haven't touched the body since. But for a filler cap behind a thin brake light, I would fabricate the LED tail lamp for $12 each to have both match when on. Using "COB" LED board, a dropping resistor and two diodes. I have solid bright light from top to bottom, left to right and 3/8" thick. The 3 wires can exit the tail lamp housing at the bottom, hinge on a standard gas cap lid spring loaded OEM assembly. A couple of spot welds, holes and a $3 trip to the salvage yard. I placed my cover behind the wheel house fuel filler door in rectangular shape could appeared factory. S10's did this for years as only 2" of space are between the inner and outer panels. So, it ended up with a small square panel over the hose & neck on the inside. I know you want this behind the tail light but requires fabrication ideas and a tiny pull tab or way to open. Using that part of a factory hinge, it is made to stay open. You said kits are $800+ dollars! That is a tank, pump, fittings & more. That crazy money. On your channel, under "About" there is a website address that mail can be used. Being the idiot I am unable to use social media, open, it shows email but places this "RU-vid" address on the message line. I don't know how to get an email, drawings or photos to you to help, give you an idea! Anyhow, I have wrinkled from welding, I can only hope I have enough in me to do side straight like in am sure you can. High build primer or the use of "Guide Coat" was not part of my vocabulary! You are doing a excellent job! I have did a full restore on a 71 C10 and currently working on another one. Just curious why you didn't just get 67 bedsides? Maybe you wasn't sure you were shaving the marker lights when you got them?
Thanks for watching the channel. When I purchased the bed from AMD they had everything in stock for 69-72 bed but not the 67-68 bedsides, shipping those large pieces is expensive across the country. To place multiple orders would have been another 3-500 in shipping costs and it was the height of Covid when I purchased the bed so not knowing if and when they would have the bed floor, sides, front and tailgate in stock all at once I chose to buy what I did and modify. Good question though and in a perfect world I would have definitely preferred the 67 bedsides with the stake pockets already filled trust me!
I just picked up AMD bedsides last Friday. Go figure 3 days later I come across your channel. So, all in all, were you pleased with the quality of the AMD stuff?
That depends😂. The bed was actually pretty decent, except I got 2 different build date bedsides. One fit perfect the other one needed work where the under structure attaches to the floor in the back. The other problem is the wheel houses. There is actually a left and a right and AMD only sells 1 that I know of. So the left fit perfect and the right did not fit at all. I had to reuse my old right side one because it fits. The doors however are a complete other story.
@@curtrobinsongarage5452 Gotcha, luckily I had three sets of doors, so I did end up with 2 good ones. The hood and front fenders are from Key Parts Inc. and I kinda did a no no there, I sent them to paint before doing a mock up because I was pushed for time and now I'm hoping it doesn't bite me in the a**. Cool build you have going, Ya got Balls going with black, but it appears you have it handled. I went the safe route, mine is being sprayed white. 🤣🤣
