Question, cause I'm old and lazy.... Seems like you could pull the Spindle without removing the Tailstock from the Lathe. But a nice "Tip" to have a proper height cart waiting! 👍
You’re absolutely right it could be done that way The reason why we choose to remove that is because students might need to use that machine, and it can be used without the tail stock on it Thank you for taking the time to comment. It’s much appreciated and also good advice for other people watching a video.
Help please ! My screw piece is frozen into the quill…..tried turning it out but can’t get it to turn inside the quill….Any suggestions for freeing it?
This happens at this college as well. Unfortunately what we do is take a large pipe put it into the handle and force the screw to thread through this generally damages the nut on the inside, not necessarily the threaded shaft so we will take it apart and re-tap the nut and it’s all good again, hopefully this helps
I was told never to use grease because it retains chips and grit when oil would release them. With exceptions being a j head and mill knee screw because they are often neglected and may never see attention.
@@FrancisoDoncona That assembly comes greased from the factory. It is recommended to be greased you. Thank you for taking time to comment. It is much appreciated.
I would have done it on the lathe without removing the tail stock. Throwing it in a vice will ding up the bottom of the casting. It would have been a good idea to clean the bottom and stone the mating surfaces to make sure you don't damage the ways. You're working with precision equipment, treat is accordingly.
@@simpleman283 yes I do. I think that the mechanic did a great job. Clearly he's a total professional. Look at the shop that he maintains. It's incredible.
