Amazing how she can alter her voice - vocal chamaeleon - sometimes you'd swear she was American (as here) or with a Lou Reedesque delivery (I'm sure one of her influences), other times folky English Laura, or channelling Joni Mitchell. Extremely talented singer songwriter and guitarist. She's English btw!

sidevans1 Funny but I didn't. I thought there was a sound problem the guitar was so low and indistinct. I think there was other version of this on youtube where the guitar is better. Overall, I'm disappointed with her Jules Holland outing this time around.

HebrewLife If you look up other performances of this song, she does sing more - I highly reccommend this version from The Aquarium Drunkard sessions: aquariumdrunkard.info/upload/Strange%20%28AD%20Session%29.mp3 I assume she didn't want to strain her voice on this night, or something like that.

unfortunatelly it's not the first time that she performes it like this. If she keeps on "removing the singing", the next live performance of this song would be an instrumental...

Laura is my favourite singer, but I struggle to listen to the live version of this song (as well as some other)... she keeps on destroing it. Somebody should tell her that she sounds waaaaay better when she sings than when she "talks" -.-

Don't think this song would sound great sung, it's all about the attitude. Thought it was pretty brave of her to do it on TV as well, when she could've chosen an easy listening song from the album, like 'divine'

It's her song. "Better" is an opinion. She's an artist presenting the work the way she intends it to be heard.

It's a towering performance here, might be not the 'style' that everyone likes, but there's power and passion and guitar craft and something primal going on - it's quite amazing really.

Also - did anyone else notice she had her cardigan across her lap when she was in the audience and put it on for this performance? I'd love to know why!
