"My brain misfiles that as knowledge and then starts building other stuff on top of that," is a brilliant line. (This sentence written last: I had many thoughts related to this line of yours haha!) 9 times out of 10, if you are very stuck on a puzzle, this line is the way out. Reassessing what you think is true and figuring out which misstep is being built on, or what puzzle piece is being overlooked, that's the key. I think this is also related to being able to enjoy puzzle games: because they challenge your ability to think well and wrap your head around confusion; anyone who wants to assume they'll get how stuff works easily will be frustrated, but if you expect to make missteps as part of the journey and correct them as you go, puzzle games become greatly rewarding, Even in action heavy games like Dark Souls and Celeste: time and time again when something feels too precise and makes a player struggle, I've noticed there are strategic solutions that drastically decrease the dexterity needed. (In Dark Souls, your playstyle and manner of approaching the game with an open mindset often led you down the right path. In Celeste, if you're ever curious to see what I mean, the Resort (Ch 3) contains tons of strong examples of obstacles that feel worse than they are if look for the safest path.)

Yeah... the opening of Chapter 15 is one HELL of a doozy. I also like how the scene in the office really illustrates how Cabanela and anti-Sissel have contrasting colour schemes.

Lynne's Dogs/Gods joke is literally exactly the same in Japanese, which I find very funny. Like, they use the English alphabet and everything

Man, seeing the "other Sissel" was beyond shocking. Suddenly, everything you knew about him was wrong. And this isn't even the end of the game! All the progress you made in solving the mystery seems like it came undone when the other Sissel appeared, and now there's a whole new series of questions that need answering! Don't worry, it'll all add up eventually. I can't wait to see how you react to everything that follows next.

Oh, I have absolute faith in these writers that this story is going to come together, the puzzle pieces will line up neatly, it will all be a little unhinged but it will be very satisfying! And I imagine I'll be able to make a few more guesses before the end, so either I'll get to gloat again (yay!) or marvel at their cleverness that I wasn't able to piece together on my own. I really feel like I've got to be approaching the end of the game, but I guess we'll see!! I'm looking forward to what comes next.

Yeah, I had to stop where I did because otherwise we were all probably going to have a really late night. I want to know what's going on, and I want to see what's going to happen, and I want to wipe that awful grin off the face of this nasty person who DARES to look like my friend Sissel!

You know, this is really wonderful. I've seen many Ghost Trick playthroughs, but yours is by far my favorite so far. You approach all the games you play from such a unique but lovely angle, and I was so surprised by how you figured out the whole Sissel twist here and so many other things! That park puzzle can be really hard. You actually did a really good job with it! After you finish Ghost Trick, if you really liked it, might I recommend you try out the Professor Layton games? If you already have something lined up or have already played them, never mind, it's just a suggestion if you ever want something new. I think you'd really like them. Thank you for the playthroughs, they're highlights of my week.

Thank you so much! I get the feeling I have a strange way of playing through/streaming games, but it's what comes naturally to me and it's fun for me, and I'm so glad that there are other people who enjoy it, too. This one is especially fun because it gives me puzzles AND story puzzles to sink my teeth into, and both parts are extremely enjoyable. And I just love the cast so much! I'm surprised by how attached I am to the characters. When Sussel (haha) grins in that menacing and cruel way, it feels like nails on a chalkboard because THAT'S MY FRIEND and HE WOULD NEVER. And it's only as effective as it is because I am as attached to Sissel as I am, because the game has really developed him and helped me care about him. I actually have never played Professor Layton! I think there was a Layton and Ace Attorney crossover; are they made by the same team? Or am I getting confused? I've known people who played them and talked about them, but I don't think I've ever even watched part of them be played.

@@LaurentheFlute Sorry it took me so long to see this! Professor Layton and Ace Attorney are different teams, but there was a crossover game, yes. And Professor Layton was somewhat inspired by Ace Attorney, although the end products are quite different.

I noticed something! the hintku as a concept is essentially "give me a puzzle that reduces the leaps needed to solve a larger puzzle", so it's still gameplay. basically "give me a way to get part of the way there instead of just giving me the finish line without the satisfaction of running the race" I feel like watching your videos is a good way to learn about game design, just because you take time to talk through the process of playing the game.

This is one of my favorite comments I've ever gotten because you absolutely nailed why I like hintkus, and what goes into a good hintku vs something that follows the "rules" but misses the point! I hadn't thought about the fact that hintkus (the best ones) are a sort of puzzle themselves, and I clearly love puzzles. If you just tell me what to do, then that's two puzzles I'm missing out on - the potential fun of solving a good hintku, and then whatever challenge I'm dealing with in-game!

Wow! The reveals at the end of this stream were incredible! I'm excited to catch up to the next video soon. But first, there are two points regarding the translation that I wanted to address: 1. To answer your question from around 1:20:37, the "leave it up to the wind" pun does work more smoothly in Japanese. In the original, Lynne's line for "I'm going to leave it up to Missile." is "…あたし。ミサイルにまかせてみる。" Here the official translation (I'm going to leave it up to Missile.) is perfectly accurate, but the thing to note is the use of the verb "まかせる" (makaseru), which in this situation works out to, "to leave it up to". Just like the English, the subsequent line reuses that same verb phrase, "そのミサイルは、かなり風[まかせ]…のようだが。" (I added the brackets added to highlight the repetition). Literally, this works out to something like, "That Missile (who you're leaving it up to) seems to largely be leaving it up to the wind", so in that sense, the official translation of "It kind of looks like Missile is being left up to the wind..." gets the basic idea across. What makes the Japanese work a bit better, though, is that the second use of "makaseru" is part of an existing idiomatic expression, "風まかせ" (kazemakase). This phrase is a lot like an adjectival version of the English saying "any way the wind blows", in that it refers to someone who is listless and willing to let circumstances decide what happens to them rather than their own will. So, in Japanese, it's not just about the repetition of "to leave it up to" that's going on, it's also about Missile leaving things to fate, as well as literally getting blown away by the wind (though of course that last part comes across in English as well). 2. There's also one name I wanted to cover as well. As funny as the Star Wars reference is for Commander Sith (2:27:34), according to the website I've been referencing for the naming puns, this name comes from an archaic/bookish form of the verb "to die". In Japanese, his name is written "シス" (Shisu), which sounds exactly like "死す" (shisu/to die). In modern Japanese that verb would be 死ぬ (shinu) rather than 死す (shisu), but I suspect even switching to Katakana would leave "シヌ" (shinu) too on the nose, so the less common version is being used instead. Plus, the Star Wars reference may have been an attractive bonus. Anyway, that's all for now! I'm on to the next stream. The "Commander Sith" explanation was especially useful in last night's stream, so thank you so much for these! I want you to know that I really appreciate them, even if I'm not good at responding :)
