Thanks to Jeffrey for suggesting this episode. I used to record Lawrence Welk every week during the late 70's and 80's. I converted the VHS tapes to DVD's about 15 years ago.
When Lawrence Welk began his TV show in 1955, it was as a 13-week summer replacement. Most TV critics predicted the show would indeed end at the conclusion of that summer, criticizing the show for being too square and corny. The joke was on them, as the show ran 27 years and was one of the most successful music programs in the history of American television.
