I served on a jury for a murder trial. We had a bailiff assigned to us. She did the job that this clerk was doing. She was in our room with us every minute of the day. She stayed with us in our room when we were taking breaks, and then followed us back into the courtroom. It was during Covid times so our bailiff checked us in each morning and took our temperature. She never made a single comment re the case during the entirety of the trial. I am shocked to hear about this clerk in the Murdaugh trial. Unbelievable.

that’s typically how it is. I spent my first year after law school as a judicial law clerk and watched a lot of criminal and civil juries come through. *never* would they have anyone but the deputies interact with the jurors. the courtroom clerks and judicial staff would usually not do any more than smile in greeting to avoid even the slightest appearance of impropriety. this courthouse seems like it was run like a joke.

@KimmyyCocoa

@pixie.del.muerte I know it's crazy how people just run with these things and take them in as fact before learning all the information. Its one of the worst points of everyone being into truecrime now, its now always tens of thousands of people making assumptions, spreading false information, demanding the police and investigators to hurry up and arrest someone and when they do everyone condemning them before ever getting to the trial and learning ALL THE FACTS. It's frightening because public opinion can change a case. Our justice system is straight up scary, we have jurors determine peoples lives, and we choose them jurors by believing what they say is true on not being biased when they are taken from a population that we know is highly biased and then train them less then you would a cashier at 711. Cases are won by good lawyers and experts which means how much money you have not if your innocent or guilty and lawyers are allowed to insinuate things to the jury and not have evidence to back it up. Child molesters and child abusers are given slaps on the wrists, 4 yr sentences out in 2 considered low risk reoffenders but 20 yrs for drug offense. It's pathetic. Sorry for the rant 😂

@@macroman52 This is based on sworn affidavits from the jurors. They swore under oath that she was telling the jury not to believe Murdoch, talked about his body language, told them it should take them this long to come to a verdict. 6 jurors smoked and were given smoke breaks. This clerk told them they couldn't have any more smoke breaks because they should already have a verdict and more. This isn't about the verdict, it's about the process. I was a juror 3xs and we weren't instructed to be prepared with an overnight bag if deliberations went into next day. We told the bailiff and IF the judge wanted us sequestered, we would have been taken to hotel & police would get us medication from home & change of clothes if needed, but if judge decided not to sequester, we'd come back nxt day. The also wanted us to go as late as possible to reach a verdict, we were encouraged to come to agreement before dinner in each case, but told not to pressure one another and also told they'd keep us until 10pm if that was needed to reach a verdict. They dont WANT you to bring a suitcase. This is purely constructed outrage and the affidavits will fall apart upon questioning. Just like Alec pressured the kids about "being positive they saw Paul driving boat at point of impact" and when they couldn't be positive because they were all terrified and bracing for impact, he argued Paul wasn't driving. It's legal BS. And we have absolute proof Poot & Co don't give a crap whose lives are destroyed ti get what they want.

I spent my first few years in law enforcement as a Circuit Court Deputy in Virginia. It was 40 years ago, but based on what our clerks did as their job, and what I saw in the years I spent as a criminal investigator later on, I have a bad feeling when I see this clerk talking. How on earth did she get to know the jury well enough to know their prayer habits, or their reaction to going to the Moselle property, or the other things she claims to know? The more I listen to her, the worse it stinks. I get the sense that the community had a huge hard-on for the Murdaugh family prior to the murders, and finding this defendant guilty was some sort of way of striking back at them.. I watched the whole trial, but before that watched no news about the event and had never heard of Murdaugh. Based soley on the evidence presented at trial, I could not have voted to convict him. Since then I've done some research on his financial crimes, and conclude that he is a rat bastard and not someone you could trust with your kid's lunch money, but that doesn't make him a murderer. From what I've seen so far, I say grant him a new trial.

Scheduling, handling the file, labeling exhibits/evidence, scheduling hearings, notices to all parties. Making sure court laws and case law is followed. You do everything for prep but we are not lawyers. Murdaugh wanted the trial in that courthouse. Everyone is connected in a small town, I grew up in one and know firsthand how a person's surname automatically guarantees how the rest of the community views them no matter how shady or decent they, as an individual, are. Everyone knows dirt on everyone else, and mild extortion happens every day at the least. He thought his name would guarantee an acquittal and lost that gamble because the jury saw through the lies.

Yeah, the county has less than 40,000 residents. The state should not have conducted the trial there for numerous reasons like that. Alex went get out of prison anyway. right. realistically, it just means she couldn’t find a publisher willing to take the book on. I would also bet that publishers they tried to shop the book to had some concerns from a liability perspective given her role, even without reading a full manuscript.

As a public official connected to the courts you have to be pristine and pure and above board. No books. No interviews. No money producing side projects. This mess clouds the Alex Murdaugh conviction forevermore. A new trial is needed and this public official must be removed from the case.

It really is a combination of his testimony and the right timeline. When he testified he recalled so much detail on things that didn’t matter but couldn’t remember specifics of what he wore or what he said to his wife and son? Common…if I lost anyone of my family members I would remember every detail and word of the last time I saw them alive. Plus the timeline is hard to overlook

My last company was very serious about getting the idea across that there should no way someone could see our dealings as a conflict of interest - we were to report our connections to our supervisor and usually that meant if we did have connections another employee would be appointed to the job. I believe the government should be held to a higher standard especially in the court system where you can ruin lives with a proper verdict. If we all believed Mudock was innocent, then we'd all want a new trial just on the face of these allegations. I still think court people should not be writing books until they are retired and at least a year has passed after all charges are settled because of the look of impropriety.

The guy who interviewed Becky said something like, "There are a lot of books coming out, but yours is the only one with this front row look inside the minds of those jurors as this was happening." She nodded in agreement. How could she know what was "inside their minds as this was happening" without actually talking to them about the case?

How can she "know that they have almost reached the verdict etc" if she didn't have conversations with them about the trial? I don't buy it. To me, the fact that she constantly says things about their decision, when it was made, when it solidified - to me this means she is probing them throughout.

Uh you might notice that type of thing gets reported in the media in every single public case for a reason. No one in the media found it shocking because they talk to people who work inside the courts in every single public case. Where exactly did you think that type of information comes from when you hear it reported? What this woman did with the jury is extremely common. The getting caught part is really rare. If there's any real consequences for her that will be even rarer. Well the insiders usually don't make themselves this publicly known. It's pretty rare for one to go this stupid.

As someone that is NOT religious, hearing that prayer plays a part in this process makes me uneasy. It makes a legit argument that things that come up outside of the confines of religion could be something held against the person on trial. I don’t at all judge the religious, but I’ve typically not found that to be the case the other way around.

Absolutely I agree 100%. Who’s to say there wasn’t a jury member who felt very uncomfortable with this - and therefore ostracised - all it does is contribute to groupthink which is a dangerous thing in a jury room. Keep religion out of courts. It’s bad enough they still being the bible out in America for people to swear truth on.

I came from a small town. I’m covered in tattoos. Now I’ve never felt the need to push my lifestyle, agendas, or belief systems on anyone however I’ve had to learn to stand up for myself since I was young because people didn’t hesitate to push theirs on me. Sadly, many were religious and they used that as their talking point to try and tell me who they thought I was. That’s not even covering the many that don’t believe that someone’s sex life should be outside of what they believe is proper, some even consider divorce inappropriate, or have consideration for someone that struggles in a multitude of ways. All of that can be seen in a lot of high level cases to sway judgement in a way that has no place in the judicial system.

Once again - one person's quest for greed negatively impacts countless others. It makes me sick. Especially the "co-writer". In other words, a professional writer hunted down this money-hungry, fame-seeking sap to give his book a personal edge no others would have. It's gross. To the issue - the jury isn't permitted to speak about the trial until it's finished. As the clerk, she is in and out of the Jury room. She is their conduit to the court. If they need something - they go to her. They see her in the morning and throughout the entire day. Every day. So, when she makes a comment indicating that she has gained knowledge regarding how jurors were leaning, that is a big problem. If jurors can't discuss anything - how can she know their opinions? I suppose she is going to claim "facial expressions" and "body language"? Not buying it. She's either lying about her insight or she was involved in illegal discussions. It's just a shame that her desire for book money could undo so much hard work. Look, Murdaugh is a spoiled brat scumbag. He doesn't deserve another trial, wasting money better spent on schools. However, this is America. His family is rich and connected. It's bad enough SLED treated him with kid gloves and almost blew the whole trial. Now the family's proximity to judges and their golf buddies will give this scumbag the benefit of the doubt. They'll give their ol' pal a new trial. Spoiled brats always get what they want.
