Hello everyone, welcome to the April 2024 update on my West Highland heritage line, Dunromin! In the past 2 months the landscape has really come together, mountains have formed and ballast has been added, let's take a look at the progress!

Loving the progress you’ve been making and the autumnal colour palette will be amazing. When I saw the rocks around the line running up to the distillery, the West Highland line outside Mallaig instantly came to mind. Really feels like you’re capturing the spirit of the Highlands!

The line going up to the AA meeting is going to be stunning. Through those rocks, damn nice idea and well executed. Every touch of weathering and moss/shrubs is just going to enhance it more and more. Will bring static grass machine.

@Proper_Chuffed we're looking forward to following your progress. My grandson is building house kits ready for the 009 layout he is going to be building soon. He'll be filming and posting updates of that on his channel once he gets started, and probably adding photos to his community page as well... Cheers James 🙂👍

Hylt, you are outdoing yourself! The layout looks great, definitely don't feel you are.going to fast, sometimes enthusiasm is hard to come by! But also remember too much can lead to burnout ;) Enjoy it dude! And congrats on the cheap as chips rolling stock!

Ah Hylt yes the eternal problem of finding something you wish you had done differently. I think if I was starting again I would also do things very differently but that is the fun of the hobby. There is always another layout in us.

@Proper_Chuffed only been in this hobby 12 months myself, I've made a fair few mistakes along the way too. Always learning off some one else. One of my favourites is tony northeastern.

@@rocknroll527 I know what you mean, only been on this for about 8 months. It's a brilliant hobby, there is so much to learn and do and from so many facets. I quite like the weathering and scenics the most so far. I am subscribed to him, great channel. Also a huge fan of OO Neal and Little Wicket, both great guys. Thanks for sharing mate. Hylt

@@Proper_Chuffed Eratics are Variously sized rocks left behind after the ice age. They litter many hillsides across Scotland. Anywhere from say a fridge size to a full house, clearly smaller ones would also be left. Hope that helps. 🙂

I like those rocks and all the pieces, they look great, that’s how I intended mine to be around the big tunnel but then fully didn’t consider the space and it’s a bit too tight now 🤯 Bargain little wagon set that too 👍 Out of curiosity you still watching my stuff or has it gone too daft now? (Be honest)
@Proper_Chuffed
@Proper_Chuffed 3 месяца назад
They’re definitely the peak of my proficiency 😂 so anything beyond the damn rocks will be rubbish, bet! I realise if you’re asking this it’s because you haven’t had a comment from me for a while but sir! Do I have a story to make you feel special 😂 Recently had a work trip down to Cape Town, around a 3 hour flight one way, and you, my dear Dave, had the honor of being the only thing I watched both ways 😂 downloaded a stack and chuckled through the turbulence. But yes, to answer your question, haven’t missed one so far 👌

@@Proper_Chuffed haha cheers, no need to comment on them just checking they’ve not gone too bad as I was starting to wonder myself! On a side note I like those rocks and bits that mush I’d happily have a full layout of just a line going through them with nothing else and I still think it would be a winner 👍👍👍👌

You’re too kind Stephen, I assure you however, I still really don’t know, my biggest problem right now is the ballast colour, I just can’t get it right! 😣
@stephendavies6949
@stephendavies6949 3 месяца назад
@Proper_Chuffed As you say, ballast colours were (and to some extent still are) dependent on the colour of the local stone used. OOBill spoke about this when he was ballasting his new layout. And since his is based in Scotland, perhaps that could be of some help? I think I recall him sharing how he came up with the colour he used. Frankly, for most of us, ballast colour is not crucial, but RU-vidrs like yourself have to think about how the colour will appear on camera. Other references on ballasting would be Chadwick & New Junction (who used pet gravel!). That Model Railway Guy also did a good video on the subject when building his last layout.
